Abstract

The Qur’an is a holy book that is always interesting to be examined from all sides: from the beauty of the language used to the contained meaning; from the form of writing to the variety of readings; including some matters related to the subject matter of the Qur’an. All these aspects if examined in depth, will lead us to the conclusion that the Qur’an is a miracle, as well as prove that the risks of Muhammad Saw is true. One of the main content of the Qur’an is the stories. Judging from the time of occurrence, the stories can be divided into three categories. First, the stories of previous prophets that were so difficult for historians to uncover, as the ‘Ā d and Thamū d and the city of Iram they were proud of; the story of Pharaoh and his destruction and the power of Allā h to immortalize his body; story of Aṣḥāb al-Kahf and so forth. Second, the notice of the Messenger of Allah concerning the state of his people, including the conspiracy of the unbelievers and the munafiq who were about to kill him. Third, the news about something that will happen like preaching about the victory of the Muslims in the war badar, victory of the army of Rum on Persi also the news about the coming of Judgment Day and human condition at that time. The truth of the stories is certain. It became one amongst the evidence of miracles. In addition, the presenting of these stories is packed with beautiful language with high literary value, thus further strengthening the miracles of the Qur’an and proving that it really comes from Allah Swt, not Muhammad’s engineering.

Abstract

Amthāl is the uslūb al-Qur’ān expressing various explanations and aspects of the Qur'an miracle. Understanding and interpreting amthāl can be influenced by current development and certain society condition. To find out the influence of that on the understanding of amthāl in the Qur'an, research is focused on KH. Bisri Mustofa interpretation on the amthāl verses in the al-Ibrīz because it has a context in the process of socializing the Qur'an oriented in the pesantren-coastel society. Based on the research using mauḍū’ī (thematic) method, there are two important poins. First, Kiai Bisri and most commentators only pay attention to amthāl muṣarraḥah. However, he gives more attention to the divinity aspects and sometimes gives his own parables in familiar terms for the community. Secondly, Kiai Bisri interpretation is relevant with the problems of society today about human relations with god and the consequences of all deeds in the world.

Abstract

This research is a study of deconstruction carried out by Shahrur about key terms in the Qur'an. Among them are al-Kita>b, al-Qur’a>n, al-Dhikr, Tafs}i>l al-Kita>b and al-Furqa>n which terms are often simply equated. Whereas for Shah{ru>r these terms have substantial differences, both in terms of their characteristics and content. The problem finally led Shah{ru>r to do a reconstruction of these themes. Shaḥrūr argues that synonymy is merely a hoax in the sense that it can reduce concepts to each of the key terms in the Qur'an. Every word in the Qur'an will lose its content and depth. Therefore, by rejecting synonymy, Shaḥrūr has explored the key terms above which turned out to be different from what is understood by the mainstream Muslim community so far. The author finds that one of the differentiations made by Shah{ru>r is related to the distinction between al-Kitāb and al-Qur'ān, Shaḥrūr refers to verse tilka a>ya>t al-kita>b wa qur’a>nin mubi>nin. (Q.S al-Hijr : 1) The word qur'a> n which is interpreted in the word al-kita>b indicates that between al-kitab and al-qur'a>n are different. From the results of the study that has been done, the principle of Shaḥrūr differentiation has brought implications and significance to the building of the science of the Qur'an. Among them are the concepts of i'jāz, asbāb al-nuzūl, muhkam-mutashābih, and interpretive methodologies in understanding each theme in the Qur'an, because of different content of Qur’an

Abstract

Ecological interpretation is an interpretation made with the object of Quranic verses related to ecological themes, using ecology-based scientific analysis, with a nuance of partiality towards environmental problems. The formulation of environmental preservation in the perspective of the Quran is a necessity, as conceived by Mujiyono Abdillah and Mudhofir Abdullah. This is related to the function of the Quran as a source of values in Islam that has a high concern for environmental problems. it could even be said to be an environmentally sound holy book. The method used in this paper is descriptive-analytical. This paper finds that: 1) Mujiyono Abdillah made an ecological interpretation as the basis for developing the concept of eco-theology in response to environmental problems. 2) Mudhofir Abdullah made ecological interpretation as the basis for developing eco-sharia concepts as an alternative solution to environmental problems.

Abstract

Al-Ibrīz li Ma’rifati Tafsīr al-Qur’ān al-‘Azīz by a traditionalist KH Bisri Musthafa has numerous scientific-nuanced interpretations, a nuance that is basically typical to modernist camp. Taking some examples, this article finds that Kiai Bisri engage scientific narratives in his exegesis under a condition that they also exist in the literatures of faithful (mu’tabara) tafsīr works for Sunnites. The examples show that the tafsir works of Muḥammad b. Aḥmad al-Qurṭubī and Fakhr al-Dīn alRāzī are likely to be the main sources for Kiai Bisri. When engaging scientific narratives, Kiai Bisri aims at showing the complexity result in the amazement in the readers’ psychology. It is noteworthy that unlike other mufasir engaging ‘ilmī narratives, Kiai Bisri did not want to respond to the Westerners and marginalize traditionalist exegetes. He rather wanted to contextualize Islamic teachings. In doing so, he drew a sort of corridor basing on Sunnite teachings. This explains why he cited more al-Rāzī, an exegete characterized by the openness toward philosophy and thus any kind of development. This also explains Kiai Bisri’s fatwas (on women’s issues, for example) that is in traditional way but at the same time it is also progressive.

Abstract

This article aims to reveal the scientific side of the Koran in surah al-Baqarah. There are 5 (five) topics that will be examined in this research, namely the qur'anic scholarship in giving priority to the mention of hearing rather than sight, the qur'anic scholarship in telling mosquitoes, the qur'anic scholarship about the place of sunrise and sunset, the scholarship of the Koran in the prohibition of gathering with the wife during menstruation, and qur'anic scholarship in breastfeeding orders for children. This is important to do, because it is in direct contact with the Koran. The significance of this research lies in the contemporary scientific topic in the longest surah of the Koran, that is surah al-Baqarah, so the big question to be answered is what is the urgency of studying the scholarship of surah al-Baqarah? Any verses that contain scientific Is there a conflict between the scholarship of the Koran with the purpose of the turn of the Koran? Is the scholarship of surah al-Baqarah only limited to one side, or many aspects that can be studied? This research is a literature research using inductive and analytic approaches. The final result shows that the scientific side of the Koran will not be exhausted to be explored and indeed the five topk above can be scientifically proven since the revelation of the Koran until now, even until the end of time.

Abstract

This paper is a response to an issue exhaled by Ariel Muzicant about al-Qur'an anti-Semitic accusations. The issue is the writing of the Vice President of the European Jewish Congress, Ariel Muzicant, which is contained in a recent paper entitled "An End to Antisemitism! A Catalog of Policies to Combat Antisemitis ". They revealed that the Qur'an and the Gospels had to be reexamined, at the point which contained anti-Semitic doctrine. Islamic and Christian documents that discriminate against Jews must be eliminated and removed. This paper tried to answer the above accusation, by pointing out verses related to this theme. This paper is a library research using thematic methods. From this research it was found that; (1) The attitude of the Qur'an towards the Jews cannot be fully seen as anti-Semitic attitude; (2) Some verses which have the potential to create an impression of cynicism towards Jews, should be returned to the universal message of the egalitarian Qur'an. (3) The verses that seem anti-Semitic are derived by the formation of a logical historical context, namely as a form of response to the attitude of the Jews

Meanwhile, the aesthetic receptions can be seen in the recitation of Shalawat which is done by Ngelik, which is using Javanese style rhythms with a shrill voice or high intonation.
