Abstract

South Kalimantan is one of carbon contributor with an area of swamp with ± 1,140,207 ha area of swamp land. The potential area for changed to be an agricultural land is ± 763,207 ha, and the remain used for pool when the rainy season is come. The highest C reserve is in biomass (mass of living-plant part) and necromass (mass of dead-plant part) at the top soil, microbe, and soil-organic matter. Based on description above, the problem is how much stored-carbon in necromass of plant at martapura lowland swamp, because the largest carbon storage found in necromass of plant. The purpose of this study was to estimate the stored carbon contained in necromass of vegetation in lowland swamp. This research has been done in Martapura from April to July 2009. Sampling is done at 4 location include Tungkaran village, Keramat Baru village, Sungai Rangas village and Sungai Tabuk village. Each sampling location divided into 2 stations in one sampling. Analysis of stored-carbon in necromass of plant is using Walkey and Black Method. The result showed that average ranges of carbon stored in plant necromass are 490,95 – 1744,66 gm-2.

Abstract

Kafein yang dikonsumsi oleh wanita hamil dengan pola yang tidak beraturan menimbulkan berbagai penyakit. Mengingat kafein memiliki kemampuan menurunkan aktivitas enzim polimerase DNA, menginduksi mitosis pada sel-sel mamal sebelum replikasi DNA berakhir sempurna, serta menghambat aktivitas enzim fosfodiesterase (Beck & Urbano, 1991), maka diduga kafein potensial menimbulkan kelainan perkembangan embrio. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji efek pemberian kafein secara oral pada induk mencit bunting selama masa organogenesis terhadap struktur anatomi skeleton fetus mencit. Dua puluh empat ekor mencit bunting yang dikelompokkan secara acak menjadi empat kelompok diberi kafein secara oral dengan dosis 40, 80, 120 mg/kg bb/hari dan kontrol diberi akuades selama masa organogenesis mulai hari ke 6 sampai hari ke 15 kebuntingan. Pada hari ke 18 kebuntingan dilakukan pembedahan pada bagian perut untuk mengeluarkan fetus dari uterus. Skeleton yang diamati meliputi pertumbuhan dan ada tidaknya kelainan secara anatomis pada skeleton appendiculare dan skeleton axiale setelah skeleton diwarnai dengan A l c i a n B l u e - A li z a ri n R e d S menurut metode Inouye. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kafein menyebabkan terbentuknya “jembatan costae”, ekor bengkok, kaki torsi, serta terhambatnya penulangan pada sternum, metacarpus, metatarsus fetus mencit.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to investigate the total content of two omega 6 fatty acids, namely linoleic acid (LA, C18:2n-6) and arachidonic acid (ARA, C20:4n-6), of mole crabs Emerita talpoida and E. Analoga. Samples of mole crabs were collected from intertidal zone of Yogyakarta’s south coast. The omega 6 fatty acids were prepared by in situ transesterification method, and were analyzed by gas chromatography. This study revealed that omega 6 fatty acid of E. talpoida consisted of 9.9% LA and 1.90% ARA, while that of E. analoga consisted of 11.11% LA and 1.83% ARA. It was concluded that the total content of omega 6 fatty acid of E. analoga was higher then that of E. talpoida.

Abstract

The availability of industrial crumb rubber sludge at PT. Bumi Jaya is quite much (1 ton/4 months), but it has underutilized optimally. High nitrogen content in industrial crumb rubber sludge has the potential to be used as an alternative nitrogen fertilizer, but keep in mind that an efficient use of appropriate plants need nitrogen uptake value in the plant tissue. This research aimed to determine the benefit or potential of industrial crumb rubber sludge as the nitrogen fertilizer alternative with measuring the nitrogen uptake efficiency on the growth of cowpea. The research was done from October to November 2016 in the greenhouse of basic laboratory of Lambung Mangkurat University. Sludge dose which was used in fertilizer were 60 g, 120 grams and 180 g/5 kg or equivalent dose of 10 ton/ha. The observed variables include nitrogen uptake efficiency, the soil C/N ratio and growth of cowpea plant on day 15th, 30th, and 45th after planting. On day 45th the plant was harvested and then fresh weight, dry weight, number of root nodules, plant tissue N of cowpea and soil C/N ratio were measured. The results showed that the efficiency of nitrogen uptake and growth observation variables of cowpea were optimum on sludge dose of 120 grams compared to the other doses. Sludge dose of 120 grams showed the best C/N ratio (12.04) among the other treatments.

Abstract

There are many types of media used in tissue culture, one of which is Murashige and Skoog (MS). Growth regulators commonly used in tissue culture include Indol Acetic Acid (IAA), Naphthalene Acetic Acid (NAA), Benzyl Amino Purine (BAP), and Indole 3-Butyric Acid (IBA). The aim was to examine the effect of various types of media treatment on the growth of Cavendish banana plants. This research method was carried out by reviewing relevant articles using google until mid-2020. Based on the results of the discussion, it was shown that the most appropriate media for the process of propagation of the Cavendish banana plant was media combined with BAP and IAA hormones, because the concentrations of BAP and IAA hormones could be used. Spur the process of organogenesis in banana plantlets. In addition, giving Super Growth foliar fertilizer 1 ml / l can also stimulate root growth at the rooting stage, so that giving Super Growth is sufficient to induce the formation of shoots and plant roots. Giving coconut water concentration of 7.5% and 15% into the planting medium can produce the best shoot initiation and the number of banana shoots.

Abstract

A study has been made to confirm the traditional belief that pea eggplant could affect male fertility. Pea eggplants contain solasodine that might reduce testosterone in male human and other vertebrate reproductive system, but the effect pea eggplant on testosterone concentration is not clear. The experiment was conducted to assess the effect of pea eggplant on testosterone concentration in rats. Forty three-month-old male rats were daily fed with four food groups: (1) 15 g of standard food as control, (2) 10 g of standard food plus 5 g pea eggplant, (3) 5 g of standard food plus 10 g pea eggplant, and (4) 15 g pea eggplant. After one month testosterone concentration was determined by radioimmunoassay. There seemed to be a decrease in testosterone with increasing pea eggplant consumption, but statistical analysis showed insignificant difference in testosterone concentration among treatments, indicating that  testosterone in rats was not significantly affected by pea eggplant.

Abstract

The air-stem barks of M.casturi were extracted with Methylene Chloride (MTC). The MTC extract’s had treatment with Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) than analyzed with probit and resulted LC50= 47,31 ppm. MTC extract’s was fractionated by Vacuum Liquid Chromatography and recrystalization obtained pure compounds. The compounds was analyzed with GC-MS (Gas chromatography-Mass Spectroscopy) and cytotoxic test with cancer cell Leukemia P388. This compound is limonene and have IC50=70 ppm.

Abstract

Dragon Fruit is one of the important crop plants in South Borneo. Efforts to increase production are sometimes inhibited by pathogenic nematodes. The aim of this study is to identify and describe the nematodes found in the soil around the dragon fruit farmland in Banjar and Banjarbaru districts. Research was done by taking the soil at a depth of 0-20 cm near the roots of the dragon fruit. The nematode extraction was done with Whitehead & Heaming method (1965) and fixed by Seinhorst method (1962), then proceed with mounting method Seinhorst (1959). Furthermore, morphological observations consisted of the entire body from head to tail. Nematodes that have been identified on the Dragon Fruit farmland are the genera Pratylenchus, Rotylenchus, Tylenchorhynchus, Mylonchulus, Eudorylaimus and Nygolaimoides. The identified nematodes may serve as additional information about the nematodes present in the dragon fruit farmland.

Abstract

A study has been conducted to identify changes in histologic structure of liver and kidney of mice fetus from pregnant mother mice exposed to doxicycline during organogenesis period.  Twenty four 3 month old female mice were divided into 4 groups: control, and treatments with oral dose of doxicycline of 26 mg, 52 mg, and 104 mg/kg BW/day for 10 days, coincided with sixth day until fifteenth day of pregnancy. At the sixteenth day of pregnancy all mice were killed, the fetus were taken for liver and kidney histologic slides.  From each histologic slide 6 samples were inspected under light microscope.  Changes in histologic structure of liver mice fetus included necrosis of liver cell; the kidney showed degeneration of epitel cell kidney tubulous begin 52 mg/kg BW dose.

Abstract

Betel (Piper betle L.) leaves are usually used by Indonesian people to treat candidacies and sprue. Such infections are commonly caused by Candida albicans. This research aim is to test antifungal effect of betel leaves towards C. albicans and determine in which concentration that it can affect the yeast. The result shows that the betel extract significantly affecting C. albicans cell number in concentration of 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, and 100%. The extracts also significantly affecting its dry weight of C. albicans in concentration of 80% and 100%.
