Abstract

This study addresses the challenge legacy media face in sustaining economic viability amid digital disruption in Indonesia, focusing on the tension between journalistic idealism and business sustainability. The objective of this research is to examine the economic strategies Kompas Group employs to manage the dual-product media market amid intensified competition and changing audience behavior. This study applies a descriptive qualitative research method, with data collected through in-depth interviews with a media economics expert, internal representatives of Kompas Group, and Generation Z audiences, supported by a literature review and secondary data analysis. The findings indicate that Kompas Group implements a dual economic strategy by separating advertising-driven platforms, such as Kompas.com, from subscription-based digital journalism through Kompas.id. Although this strategy demonstrates adaptive efforts toward digital transformation, its effectiveness remains constrained by structural challenges, including declining advertising revenues, low willingness among younger audiences to pay for news, reduced tolerance for digital advertising, and weakened brand loyalty due to algorithm-driven news consumption on social media. Additionally, both intramedia competition with digital-native media and intermedia competition with global technology platforms further intensify economic pressures on legacy media. This study concludes that the long-term sustainability of Kompas Group depends not only on technological innovation but also on its capacity to adapt to evolving audience behavior, address structural imbalances in the digital media economy, and diversify revenue sources while maintaining core journalistic values.

Abstract

This study examines how TESOL program quality and personal resources predict graduates’ perceived employability in one program in the Cambodian private university. A cross-sectional survey of TESOL students and recent graduates (n = 263) measured five curriculum factors and four personal factors against five indicators of subjective employability. Correlation and regression analyses revealed that all curriculum and personal factors were positively associated with self-perceived employability. Practice-intensive curriculum features (teaching practicum, peer teaching) and personal resources (teaching self-efficacy, outcome expectations) showed particularly strong links with employability outcomes. In a combined model, personal factors – especially work adaptation, social capital, and outcome expectations – accounted for substantially more variance in employability perceptions than curriculum factors. Because the data are cross-sectional, self-reported, and drawn from a single institution, the findings indicate associations rather than causation and may not generalize to other TESOL programs or contexts. The findings suggest that while high-quality training contributes to graduates’ career readiness, their adaptability, professional networks, and future-oriented outlook ultimately play a more decisive role in how employable they feel. The study recommends enhancing authentic teaching practice, career guidance, and networking opportunities in TESOL programs to improve graduate employability.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the marketing communication model implemented by Bank Sumut Syariah KCP Binjai in increasing public interest in saving. The research is motivated by persistent problems of limited public understanding, skepticism, and trust issues toward Islamic banking products, which negatively affect saving intentions. A descriptive qualitative method was employed, using in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation involving branch leaders, account officers, and customer service staff. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, supported by triangulation to ensure data validity. The results indicate that Bank Sumut Syariah KCP Binjai employs a relational, value-based marketing communication model rather than a transactional approach. Face-to-face communication is identified as the most effective strategy, supported by a structured six-step sales process and the application of Islamic communication principles, namely qaulan layyinan, qaulan sadidan, and qaulan balighan. These principles strengthen credibility, build customer trust, and enhance customer satisfaction, which in turn increases public interest in saving. The study concludes that ethical, effective, and sharia-compliant marketing communication plays a significant role in fostering the sustainable growth of Islamic banking in Indonesia.

Abstract

The rapid development of science and technology has significantly influenced the educational sector, particularly science learning at the elementary school level. This study aims to examine the role of technology in elementary science learning media and learning resources, with implications for fourth-grade learners at the BiMbeLcc tutoring institution in Cilegon. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach using a literature review method. The literature search was conducted using national databases (Sinta-indexed journals) and international databases such as Google Scholar and ERIC, covering publications from 2015 to 2024. The inclusion criteria consisted of peer-reviewed articles discussing educational technology, science learning media, and elementary education, while articles that were not focused on elementary-level learning, lacked methodological clarity, or were non-academic publications were excluded. Based on the screening and eligibility process, a total of selected articles were analyzed thematically to identify recurring patterns and key findings. The results indicate that the integration of technology in science learning media such as Canva, Kahoot, YouTube, Google Chrome, and artificial intelligence plays an important role in supporting students’ learning motivation, engagement, and understanding of scientific concepts. Technology-based learning media provide interactive, visual, and contextual learning experiences that promote student-centered learning and accommodate diverse learning styles. In addition, technology facilitates educators in designing varied and innovative learning media and enables efficient access to broader learning resources. However, the review also identifies potential challenges in technology integration, particularly the risk of students’ overdependence on technological tools, which may reduce learning independence if not properly managed. Therefore, technology should be applied selectively and responsibly in accordance with pedagogical principles. Overall, this study concludes that technology can enhance the quality of elementary science learning when integrated thoughtfully. Strengthening students’ scientific reasoning, logic, and critical thinking remains essential in the digital era to ensure that technology functions as a supportive tool rather than a substitute for meaningful learning processes.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of service quality, facilities, waiting time, and patient expectations on healthcare traveller satisfaction in Bali, a leading global tourism destination where casual medical needs frequently arise. As international travel increases, so does the demand for accessible, efficient, and high-quality healthcare services for tourists experiencing common illnesses or requiring administrative medical support. Using a modified 19-item SERVQUAL-based questionnaire, data were collected from 138 international travellers who received care at a private clinic in Pecatu, Bali. Reliability and validity testing demonstrated strong psychometric properties (Cronbach’s Alpha = 0.899; all items above r-table 0.361). Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA) was applied to evaluate both direct and interaction effects. Results show that the model explains 59% of the variance in satisfaction (R² = 0.590). Service quality exhibited the strongest positive direct effect on satisfaction (p < 0.001), while facilities showed an unexpected negative direct effect, and waiting time had no significant direct impact. Patient expectations demonstrated a significant negative effect and played a crucial moderating role. High expectations weakened the positive effect of service quality while strengthening the influence of facilities and waiting time on satisfaction. These findings underscore that traveller satisfaction is shaped not only by operational performance but also by the psychological standards tourists bring to their healthcare encounters. The study contributes to expectancy-disconfirmation theory in medical tourism and emphasizes the need for transparent communication, standardized service delivery, modern facility enhancements, and strategic expectation management. Strengthening these areas will support Bali’s competitiveness as a trusted and efficient healthcare destination for international travellers.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of information technology to improve the quality of public services in Loa Ipuh Darat Village by analyzing the effectiveness of the digitalization process using four policy implementation variables proposed by Edwards III: communication, resources, disposition, and bureaucratic structure. In addition, the study explores the supporting and inhibiting factors that influence the implementation of information technology in village-level public services. The objectives of this study are: (1) to describe and analyze the implementation of information technology in public services in Loa Ipuh Darat Village, Tenggarong District, Kutai Kartanegara Regency; and (2) to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors affecting its implementation. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, direct observation, and documentation. The interviews involved eight informants: the village head, the village secretary, two village administrative staff, one IT operator, two community members as service users, and one sub-district official. The study was conducted over three months, from March to May 2024. Data analysis followed the interactive model developed by Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, which includes data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The findings indicate that the implementation of information technology in public services has shown mixed results. Communication has been carried out hierarchically and relatively clearly, although continuous technical assistance is still needed. Resources remain the main constraint, particularly limited human resource competence, budget constraints, and inadequate IT facilities. The disposition of both village officials and the community is generally positive and adaptive, but disparities in digital literacy persist. The bureaucratic structure provides formal regulatory support; however, its effectiveness is limited by rigid administrative procedures and the absence of a specialized IT unit at the village level. Supporting factors include leadership commitment, positive attitudes among village officials, and the availability of initial network infrastructure. In contrast, inhibiting factors include limited technical competence, unstable internet connectivity, dependence on external technicians, and a less responsive bureaucracy. These findings highlight that successful digitalization in public services depends heavily on resource readiness, bureaucratic flexibility, and adequate infrastructure support.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the failure of students’ mathematical creative thinking abilities in solving systems of linear equations in three variables (SPLTV) problems based on their level of self-regulation. Mathematical creative thinking is an essential higher-order skill, yet many students struggle to generate ideas, apply flexible strategies, and elaborate solutions when solving complex problems. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach involving students categorized into high, medium, and low self-regulation levels. Data were collected through creative thinking tests, self-regulation questionnaires, and semi-structured interviews. The analysis focused on identifying patterns of failure across indicators of creative thinking, including fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration. The results indicate that students with low self-regulation tend to fail at planning problem-solving strategies, monitoring solution steps, and evaluating results, leading to incomplete or incorrect solutions. Students with moderate self-regulation partially fulfill creative thinking indicators, while those with high self-regulation demonstrate better control of their thinking processes, though some difficulties remain in originality and elaboration. These findings highlight the critical role of self-regulation in supporting students’ mathematical creative thinking and provide implications for designing instructional interventions to reduce learning failure in SPLTV topics.

Abstract

Green Open Space (GOS) in Samarinda City plays an important role as an ecological buffer, recreational facility, and public social space. However, variations in quality, facilities, and management have raised concerns about public comfort and the use of these spaces. This study aims to analyze public perceptions of Green Open Spaces in Samarinda City by examining user characteristics, utilization patterns, and comfort levels. The research applied a descriptive quantitative method using a questionnaire survey distributed to visitors of several major green open spaces, including Samarendah Park, Smart Park (Edupark), Bebaya Park, and Teras Samarinda. The results show that the majority of respondents perceive green open spaces as very important and generally rate their overall condition as good. Cleanliness, safety, and the availability of supporting facilities were identified as the main factors influencing public comfort and perception. These findings indicate that continuous improvement in the quality and management of green open spaces is essential to enhance community comfort and optimize their utilization.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of Supreme Court Regulation (PERMA) Number 3 of 2017 and the 10-Point Code of Ethics and Guidelines for Judges' Conduct in realizing fair trials for women in Indonesia. Although the principle of gender equality has been normatively guaranteed, trial practice shows that women still face structural and cultural discrimination. A qualitative normative legal approach is used through analysis of documents, legal literature, and court decisions to assess the application of substantive norms and judicial ethics. The results show that PERMA No. 3 of 2017 provides substantive guidelines emphasizing non-discrimination, respect for women's rights, and substantive justice, while the judicial code of ethics serves as a moral foundation that guides judicial behavior. The synergy between these two instruments enhances gender sensitivity in judicial decisions, though its implementation remains influenced by differences in judicial understanding, patriarchal legal culture, and limited resources. This study emphasizes the importance of internalizing ethics and gender sensitivity training as strategies to ensure fair, humane, and non-discriminatory trials.

Abstract

This study analyzes the institutional transformation of Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) Medan, a public broadcasting institution, during the post-Reformasi period, focusing on how the organization responded to declining relevance and competitiveness amid media liberalization and accelerating digitalization. The main objective of this research is to examine the processes of institutional repositioning, changes in broadcasting practices, and strategic adaptations undertaken by RRI Medan in response to increasing competition from private radio and digital media between 1998 and 2014. Employing an institutional history approach, this study uses historical methods encompassing heuristic exploration, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography, supported by archival records, broadcasting policy documents, academic literature, and selected oral sources from RRI practitioners. The findings demonstrate that RRI Medan faced significant external pressures following its transition from a state-controlled radio to a public broadcasting institution. These pressures stimulated institutional restructuring, redefinition of public service functions, adjustments in broadcast content and listener segmentation, and the initial adoption of digital strategies through streaming and online platforms. However, these adaptive efforts were constrained by bureaucratic inertia, limited technological infrastructure, and human resource capacity. This study argues that the period 1998–2014 constitutes a critical transitional phase that laid the institutional foundation for RRI Medan’s shift toward a multi-channel public broadcasting model in the digital era. Scientifically, this research contributes to the historiography of Indonesian media by providing an empirical analysis of the transformation of public broadcasting at the local level, highlighting the interaction among institutional change, media policy, and digital disruption in post-authoritarian Indonesia.
