Abstract

Kitab kuning learning in pesantren requires mastery of Nahwu and Shorof while fostering students' cognitive, affective, and value-based learning character. Previous studies have mainly emphasized cognitive outcomes, with limited evidence explaining how instructional methods contribute to character development through value internalization. This study examined the effectiveness of the Tamyiz Method and the mediating role of the Tamyiz motto. A mixed-methods sequential explanatory design was employed involving 60 junior secondary students at Bayt Tamyiz Islamic Boarding School, divided into experimental and control groups. Data were collected using a kitab kuning comprehension test, questionnaires, observations, and interviews, and analyzed using t-tests, MANOVA, mediation analysis, and thematic analysis. The experimental group showed higher improvement in kitab kuning comprehension (N-Gain = 0.72), with very large effect sizes for comprehension (d = 2.41), learning mentality and enthusiasm (d = 2.68), and motto internalization (d = 3.21). Motto internalization partially mediated the relationship between the Tamyiz Method and learning character (indirect effect = 1.12; proportion mediated = 72.7%). These findings indicate that integrating instructional innovation with value internalization can strengthen learning outcomes and character development in pesantren.

Abstract

An innovative instructional model is needed that can simultaneously integrate the development of social skills and improvements in learning outcomes. This study aims to analyze the implementation of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) in Social Studies instruction to develop social skills and improve the learning outcomes of seventh-grade students at SMPN 14 Madiun. This study adopts a classroom action research (CAR) design conducted in two cycles. Data were collected through observation, testing, and documentation, then analyzed using both quantitative and qualitative approaches. The findings indicate that implementing the PBL model improved students' social skills and learning outcomes. The class average score increased from 65.3 in the pre-cycle to 72.2 in Cycle I and 79.5 in Cycle II, with the learning mastery rate rising from 43.3% to 86.7%. Students' social skills also improved, with the proportion of students achieving good or very good social skills increasing from 26.7% in Cycle I to 93.3% in Cycle II, while the proportion of students in the sufficient category decreased from 73.3% to 6.7%. This study concludes that the PBL model is an effective instructional approach in Social Studies for enhancing students' learning outcomes and social skills.

Abstract

Prior to the establishment of Café Sawah, Pujon Kidul Village relied primarily on agriculture and faced unemployment, limited economic diversification, and relatively low educational attainment. This study aims to analyse how Café Sawah functions as a community empowerment model that enhances income-generating activities in Pujon Kidul Village, Indonesia. A qualitative approach was employed, using semi-structured interviews with 11 informants: a community leader, village officials, a BUMDes Sumber Sejahtera manager, youth organisation representatives, and Café Sawah managers. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis, and analysed through data reduction, data display, conclusion drawing, and thematic interpretation; triangulation and member checking were used to strengthen credibility. The findings show that Café Sawah developed through collaborative governance involving the village government, BUMDes, local communities, and external stakeholders. The empowerment process combined community participation, utilisation of local resources, institutional coordination, and capacity building, thereby expanding locally accessible employment and business opportunities beyond agriculture. Tourism development reportedly created employment opportunities for approximately 200 individuals, involved workers from poor households, strengthened MSME participation and local product markets, contributed IDR 162.5 million annually to the village’s own-source revenue, and supported BUMDes-managed business activities generating approximately IDR 1.7 billion per year. These findings indicate broader access to productive activities and local economic opportunities rather than uniform income growth across all households. This study contributes an empirically grounded model showing how community-based tourism coordinated through BUMDes can connect participatory empowerment, village institutions, and local resource utilisation with diversified income-generating activities.

Abstract

This research examines the practice of Peusijuek as a pre-litigation islah mechanism for resolving domestic conflicts in Pante Ceureumen District, West Aceh, Indonesia. While previous studies have primarily examined Peusijuek as a cultural tradition, they have given limited attention to its role as a normative mechanism in the interaction between customary and Islamic law. Employing a qualitative approach within an interpretive paradigm, the study collected data through in-depth interviews with nine informants, participant observation, and document analysis, which were analyzed using thematic coding. The findings reveal that Peusijuek operates as a multi-tiered mediation mechanism prior to formal litigation by integrating social, spiritual, and moral dimensions into the reconciliation process while shaping the distribution of authority among families, customary institutions, and the state. From the perspective of living fiqh, Peusijuek embodies the values of islah and maqāṣid al-sharīʿah through local customary practices. The study demonstrates that legal pluralism in Aceh is both complementary and productive, although normative ambivalence remains in cases involving domestic violence. These findings contribute to the development of Islamic family law scholarship and provide practical insights for strengthening community-based dispute resolution within legally plural societies.

Abstract

This article critically reviews Brenda Pugh McCutchen’s Teaching Dance as Art in Education (2006) to recontextualize its pedagogical framework within discussions of embodied learning, ethnopedagogy, and digital archives. Using a qualitative critical book review approach, the study examines the book’s four cornerstones: Dancing and Performing; Creating and Composing; Knowing History, Culture, and Context; and Analyzing and Critiquing. The review finds that McCutchen’s framework remains pedagogically relevant because it integrates embodied practice, creativity, cultural understanding, and critical reflection. However, it also reveals limitations, particularly its Euro-American orientation, limited ethnopedagogical perspective, and lack of attention to digital technologies. To address these gaps, the article proposes a conceptual extension that links embodied learning with digital archives as complementary tools for documentation, preservation, accessibility, and cultural transmission. While digital archives cannot replace lived bodily experience, their integration with McCutchen’s framework may strengthen dance education by supporting preservation and critical engagement with dance knowledge. As a conceptual study based on a single primary text and selected literature, this review does not include empirical data or practical implementation. Nevertheless, it suggests that combining embodied learning and digital archives offers a valuable direction for dance education in the digital era.

Abstract

The Holistic-Integrative Early Childhood Education (HI-ECD) program encompasses education, caregiving, health, protection, and child well-being; however, to date, no comprehensive, standardized evaluation model exists to assess the program's implementation in its entirety. This study aims to develop an evaluation model for the HI-ECD program that provides comprehensive information to improve the quality of basic services for young children. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach by adapting the CIPP evaluation model to meet the specific needs of early childhood education units. The development process consisted of several stages, including a preliminary study, an initial design, expert validation, and product revision. The results indicate that the evaluation model developed—namely the IP-HIECD Evaluation Model—consists of two main components: input evaluation and process evaluation, complete with evaluation procedures, a user guide, and assessment instruments. Based on assessments from experts and practitioners, this model achieved a very good validity rating. These findings have implications for improving the effectiveness of HI-ECD program evaluation, providing a measurable overview of program achievements, and strengthening synergy among stakeholders in the management of HI-ECD services in Indonesia, ultimately contributing to the optimization of the growth and development of young children.

Abstract

The rapid growth of e-commerce has transformed modern consumption patterns into increasingly instant, spontaneous, and repetitive behaviors, a phenomenon aptly described as "scroll, checkout, repeat." This behavior is no longer driven solely by genuine need. However, it is heavily shaped by digital algorithms, promotional stimuli, lifestyle trends, and emotional impulses such as Fear of Missing Out (FOMO), raising critical questions about the ethical boundaries of consumption from an Islamic perspective. This study aims to analyze the "scroll, checkout, repeat" phenomenon through a thematic study (maudhu'i) of the Prophet's hadith, specifically examining the concepts of israf (excess) and consumption control as ethical frameworks relevant to contemporary digital consumption culture. This study employs a qualitative approach with a library research design, using the thematic hadith method (maudhu'i) as its primary analytical tool. Hadith related to the themes of consumption, israf, tabdzir (wastefulness), qana'ah (contentment), and self-control were collected from primary sources including Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, Sunan at-Tirmidhi, Sunan Ibn Majah, and Musnad Ahmad and systematically analyzed through the stages of data inventory, classification, content analysis, and contextualization The findings reveal that the Prophet's hadith does not prohibit consumption as a fulfillment of human needs, but establishes clear ethical boundaries to prevent it from descending into waste, squandering of wealth, and the servitude of desire. The concept of israf in the hadith operates on three layers: (1) violation of reasonable limits in the use of blessings, (2) desire untrained in contentment, and (3) failure of responsibility toward wealth. Correspondingly, consumption control encompasses: control of measure (sufficiency over appetite), control of attention (abandoning what is not beneficial), and control of inner orientation (cultivating qana'ah). These concepts prove directly relevant to the digital consumption culture of the e-commerce era, where israf no longer manifests as single large expenditures but as small, repetitive, and emotionally driven purchases perpetuated by algorithmic systems. The hadith ultimately offers an ethical solution — grounded in balance, conscious decision-making, and spiritual responsibility — that remains profoundly contextual in addressing contemporary challenges of digital consumption.

Abstract

The growing demand for 21st-century learning skills—such as critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication—poses a significant challenge in secondary education, particularly when instructional leadership, teacher competence, and classroom performance are not optimally aligned. This study addresses the question of whether school principals’ leadership and teacher performance, directly or indirectly, influence the development of 21st-century learning characteristics among high school students. The objective is to identify and analyze both the direct and indirect effects of these three factors on students’ 21st-century learning characteristics. A quantitative descriptive research design was employed, using purposive sampling of selected high schools in Pandeglang. Data were collected through questionnaires and documentation and analyzed using path analysis and multiple regression. The findings reveal that school principals’ leadership and teacher performance each have a significant positive influence, both partially and simultaneously, on 21st-century learning characteristics among high school students in Pandeglang. These results underscore the importance of integrating leadership development, teacher competency training, and performance evaluation to foster 21st-century skills in secondary education.

Abstract

Early reading skills are a fundamental aspect of emergent literacy and play an important role in children's future academic success. However, observations at Harapan Bunda Preschool revealed that literacy learning activities still relied primarily on printed books and student worksheets, while the use of digital learning media remained limited. This study aimed to develop and validate Canva-based learning media to support early reading activities among children aged 5–6 years. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model, consisting of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation stages. The participants were 10 children aged 5–6 years enrolled in Harapan Bunda Preschool. Data were collected using media validation sheets, material validation sheets, teacher response questionnaires, and observation sheets to assess children's early reading skills. The validation results showed that the Canva-based learning media received feasibility scores of 91% from media experts and 93% from material experts, both categorized as very feasible according to the established validation criteria. During implementation, the same group of children participated in both the small-group and large-group trial stages. Observation scores increased from 48.75% in the initial trial stage to 90% in the subsequent implementation stage. These findings indicate that the developed Canva-based learning media is feasible and appropriate for supporting early reading activities in preschool settings. Further studies using experimental designs are recommended to examine its effectiveness in improving children's reading outcomes.

Abstract

The rapid expansion of e-commerce has generated a cyclical pattern of impulsive digital consumption widely characterized as "scroll, checkout, repeat," in which purchasing decisions are driven by algorithmic stimuli, Fear of Missing Out (FOMO), and hedonic shopping lifestyle rather than genuine need. Despite growing scholarly attention to Islamic consumer ethics, prophetic hadith has rarely been positioned as the primary analytical framework for addressing this phenomenon. This study analyzes the scroll, checkout, repeat phenomenon through the lens of prophetic hadith, focusing on the concepts of israf and consumption control. A qualitative library research design was employed, using the thematic hadith method (maudhu'i). The corpus consisted of six core hadith drawn from the five canonical collections of Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, Sunan al-Tirmidhi, Sunan Ibn Majah, and Musnad Ahmad, all classified as sahih or hasan based on isnad verification cross-checked against classical syarah commentaries. Findings show that israf operates across behavioral, psychological, and moral-spiritual dimensions, while prophetic consumption control encompasses quantitative sufficiency, attentional discipline, and inner contentment (qana'ah). These principles can be conceptually related to key empirical drivers of digital impulsive buying, though this normative-conceptual study does not empirically test the framework against consumer data.
