Abstract

The intent of the research is whether there is correlation between HOTS and RC. The researchs’ design is correlation design that this study was projected to give the respon of these questions,” Is there a correlation between HOTS and RC?” The participants who took part in this study are 140 students. The instruments of the research were tests which were needed to gather the data. These participants had to do two tests. The first test was the analysis, synthesis, and evaluation. The second test was literal comprehension and inference comprehension. The HOT skills Assesment was ten questions to analysis, seven questions to synthesis and eight questions to evaluation. And reading comprehension test was 12 items of multiple choices for literal comprehension and 12 items of multiple choices for inference comprehension. Total numbers of correct answer from these instruments were calculated. To get the purpose of the study, those numbers of correct answer were being correlated using Bivariate Pearson in SPSS 20.The result of the research showed the positive relationship between HOT skills and RC. The coefficient correlation is r-value .552. It means that the significant relationship between these two variables was a fair and answers the hypothesis that the Ho is rejected because the significance level is lower than 0.05 (p value 0<005) and H1 is accepted because the significance level is more than 0.05 (p value 0>005).This suggestions to other research are to increase the study in exploring sharper and deeper concerning with teaching and assessing methodology in senior high school since critical thinking has been given in high school curricula. Moreover, the study also suggests to further research to not only verify the theory that has been known but also to conduct introspective study and to develop study in investigating and exploring factors of how the students can be critical thinkers and how teacher guides students to be critical thinkers, also improve book which include critical thinker. Keywords:  HOTS, Critical Thinking and RC

AbstractDocumentation of students' scores in reading indicates that only 9 out of 36 students achieved the minimum completeness criteria (KKM) 75. Therefore, this Classroom Action Research was carried out by implementing the herringbone technique in teaching reading to solve the problems encountered by students. In this study, the steps the teacher applied in implementing the herringbone technique were: (1) selecting a proper text by adjusting to the students' reading level; (2) instructing the students to read the text individually; (3) dividing the students into groups consisting of two students for each group; (4) doing vocabulary exercise in the group; (5) giving  a visual diagram of the herringbone to the students; (6) explaining the students to record the answers to the w-h questions on the diagram; (7) asking students to find out the answer and recording it on the diagram; (8) explaining the students about how each answer fits into a slot in a main idea sentence; (9) instructing them to write the main idea by using the information from the herringbone diagram; and 10) utilizing the diagram as a tool for story discussion. The herringbone technique serves as a strategy applied to improve students' ability to understand the reading. Keywords: reading comprehension, herringbone technique

Abstract

Abstract  Reading as one of language skills, is very important. By reading ability the students will be able to understand and transfer the contents of reading passage. Here, this study is employed quasi experimental research. It uses posttest design only. To accessible population of this study was eighth grade student of MTs Negeri 10 Banyuwangi. The researcher conducted this study on the even of semester of 2018/ 2019 academic year. The two of eight classes, were taken to be sample of study. It was VIII D which consists of 32 students as experimental group. Then, the control group was VIII C, it consists of 32 students. The experimental group taught by using Graphic Organizer. Meanwhile, the control group was taught by conventional teaching strategy. The researcher prepared a set of reading text in the form of multiple choices as the instrument. To analyze the data, independent T- test was used to know the difference of the learning achievement of two groups. By employing the independent T-test analysis in SPSS 20, the result of computations shows that the score of t was 0.039 that was lower than significant level 5 % (0.05). Based on these T values can be concluded that there is significant difference of using Graphic Organizer on the students’ reading comprehension achievement. In other words, the students who taught by using graphic organizers achieved reading comprehension better than those who were taught conventional teaching strategy. Some recommendations that were given to the teachers and school are that the teaching of reading skill, implement graphic organizer as the alternative strategy, and give more emphasis on the reading technique of making inference of the reading content. Keywords: the effectiveness, graphic organizer strategy, reading comprehension

The main goal in learning is to comprehend, to understand to practice and to implement. It is aimed to get the optimal comprehension and understanding in learning. To get the aim and goal of learning, it depends on how learners have the ways in learning style. How a learner comprehend is the focus of the concept and method of learning style. Learning styles can be determined and defined as characteristic cognitive, affective, and physiological behaviors that serve as relatively stable indicators of how learners perceive, interact with, and respond to the learning environment.Three kinds of learning style are; 1) visual, 2) Auditory, and 3) kinesthetic. This study and research focus on auditory learning style only. The way how students learning by relying on their listening process is determided by Auditory learning style. learnersprefer to listen the discussion, presentation and speech better than to read more. The most impertant of learning style which must be learned is Speaking skill because It hasclose relation with other skills. Those are listening, reading and writing. Therefore, thisstudy wants to show the correalation between auditory learning style toward student’s speaking skill.Based on the description and explanation above,a research problem in this studyis “Is there significant correlation between auditory learning style and students’ speaking skill”.This present research study was conducted to investigate whether there is a significant correlation between the students’ auditory learning style and their speaking skill or not. This study uses quantitative research and the reseacher uses the correlation design. There are two variables investigated in this study, those are: the students’ auditory learning style as independent variable and speaking skill as dependent variable. The population in this research is all the students of the eleventh grade of Madrasah Aliyah Al-mujtama’ Madura which consist of 38 students. Because the population is less than 100 objects, so it is called by population research design. The instrument to be implemented to collect the data was questionnaire to get data variable X (Auditory learning style) and test for variable X (speaking skill). This instrument was applied to know the students’ score. Then, the data was analyzed by using the correlation analysis of spearman brown formula. The result shows that the value of ρ (or rs) in this research is 0.965 with the significant 0.000.  It means that there is significant correlation between students’ Auditory learning style and speaking skill. So, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) in this research which stated that there is a significant correlation between the students’ Auditory learning style and their speaking skill is accepted. Keyword : auditory learning style, speaking
