Abstract

The purpose of the study is to find out whether the students’ self-esteem, students’ motivation correlate with their English spiking skill achievement in English Language teaching. For this study the researcher took a speaking class at second semester students of English Teaching Department in IAIN Madura of 2018/2019 as participants. The research instrument of this research, the researcher provided two kinds of instruments. They are questionnaires and documentation, with the sample which consists of 30 students. This research used the quantitative approach with a research design called correlation design. The finding of this research showed the result of significance value for students’ self-esteem, students` motivation, and speaking skill achievement is 0.000. It means that the significance value < 0.05, so Ha is accepted.  While based on the table interpretation, the coefficient correlation value is 0.865. It is between 0.800 – 1.000 in the interpretation correlation table. This value shows there is a strong correlation between students’ self-esteem, students’ motivation and their speaking skill achievement.

Abstract

Language is a means of communication in social interactions between one individual and another. With language, a language speaker can easily convey a message to the speech partner. The purposes of the research are; (1) Describing the variations of language used by the traders and buyers in buying and selling at English Village Pare Kediri (2) Describing the factors that influence the use of language to traders and buyers in buying and selling at English Village Pare Kediri.The method that was used in this research is a qualitative descriptive method. It is aims to describe the language used by traders and buyers in buying and selling transactions at English Village Pare and the factors that influence it. The subject was 10 participants of seller and buyer who sold and bought at English Village Pare Area. The instrument of collecting data in this research was using the observation.The steps that the researcher has applied are SPEAKING; S is for Setting and scene, P is for participant, E is for End, A is for a sequence, K is for Key, I is for Instrumentalities, N is form Norm, G is for Genre. Next, the findings of this research showed that factors that influence the use of language at English Village Pare, are; age, gender, level education and environment.The result of the study shows that the use of trader language in English Village Pare has diversity in communication. Traders who come from various ethnicities can become a multilingual society when they enter the English village, due to environmental factors. Factors such as age, gender, education and environment affect the use of the merchant's language during buying and selling transaction situation that creates language diversity.

Abstract

Podcast is considered as a component of ICT (Information and Communication Technology) that has been broadly utilized and demonstrated as a compelling apparatus in instructing English. Covid-19 has been announced as a worldwide pandemic by WHO. Subsequently, this examination was utilized to explore the understudies' observation towards the utilization of web recording in getting the hang of tuning in. This study employs survey Method, In addition, this survey is followed up with interviews for more in-depth data. The involvement of both data from survey and those from interviews is to obtain more dependable information concerning the topic investigated. This study involved fifteen students as the research participants to respond to questionnaire. Furthermore this study followed up the result of questionnaire by interviewing 3 out of those 15 participants. To collect the data questionnaire was distribute use Googleform media with multiple-choice items, and Whatsahapp media to collect interview data. The discoveries uncover that the understudies had positive discernments towards podcasts. The vast majority of the members concurred that they like podcasts since it helped them in learning English especially listening ability. Another positive effect was that the students’ vocabulary improved. Hence, the findings suggest that podcast can be used as the alternative teaching media to improve students’ listening skills.

Abstract

To get good writing skills requires a lot of practice, as well as in the process of producing a paragraph which also requires structured stages. In supporting the writing process, appropriate teaching and learning methods need to assist students master writing skill. In his study, researcher offers alternative methods to measure the  effectiveness  of  writing  narrative  text  using  the  Jigsaw  method  with  Edmodo and  conventional  Jigsaw.  Its  research  design was  quasi-experimental  with  a  non- randomized, pre-post test design. The study was conducted at X Grade Multimedia (MM 1 and MM 2) students of SMK PGRI 2 Kediri in the academic year 2019/2020, consist of 20 students each class. The writer uses the writing test as an instrument in  collecting  data;  and  with  pre-post test  design  form.  The  test  used  to  classify students’ writing ability in relation to the effect of the treatment. Then, an analytic scoring  rubric  used  by  two  raters  worked  independently  in  scoring  the  students’ writing.     The results showed that the mean scores of the three writing components in the experimental group were not significantly different or nearly the same. This is shown  by  statistical  calculations  using  the  Independent  Sample  of  T-test  with  a significant value at the level of 0.145> 0.05. These findings indicate that there is no significant  difference  between  students'  scores  in  learning  using  Jigsaw  with Edmodo and conventional Jigsaw. There was an increase in student scores, but the increase  was  not  too  significant.  These  findings  suggest  that  there  is  insufficient evidence  to  reject  the  null  hypothesis.  Then  the  alternative  hypothesis  is  not accepted.  Students  taught  using  Jigsaw  with  Edmodo  did  not  have  a  significant difference in learning achievement and writing narrative text compared to students who  were  taught  using  conventional  Jigsaw.  Based  on  the  research  finding,  the students taught using Jigsaw with Edmodo do not get a significantly better score in writing narrative text than students taught using Jigsaw conventional. Even though, there is no significant level student score improvement the application jigsaw with Edmodo and Conventional Jigsaw was suggested to English teachers to apply those methods to improve students’ writing skill. The students will be nice when using a media  likes  Jigsaw  and  Edmodo  in  the  teaching-learning  process.  For  future research, writer recommend to fill the gaps of this research limitation as a reference in conducting research both in the same or different field. Abstract

Speaking is a kind of skills in a language component that used for communication. It is important for students to be mastered. Students get difficult to use a language. Moreover, they have to express their idea in English. The teacher must be considered to make an interesting and use a good approach to teach them in the class. Teaching speaking should be related in using a technology. Furthermore, in this era of 21st Century. Teachers should be able to attract the students’ attention by using a computer program or a smartphone in teaching learning process. Digital Story Telling (DST) provide teachers and students to express an idea of telling a story by using a computer program. Recount is a kind of text that can be told by the students in DST. They can tell about their own experience trough DST in teaching learning process.

Abstract

This study used quasi-experimental research design to investigate the effectiveness of video-making task in students speaking skill. The study conducted in UPT Bahasa IAIDA Blokagung Banyuwangi during corona virus pandemic on April 2020. The sample was second semester students of Arabic department. There were 45 students involved the study; 22 students of experiment class and 23 students of control class. In pre-test, students’ speaking skill in experiment and control class was revealed on the same level. The treatment was held online in four meetings. Experiment class was given video-making task and control group was drilled by using audio-lingual method. In experimental class, tutor gave the theme and asked students to make video about the theme and upload it on social media.  In post-test, students were called via WhatsApp video and asked to explain about themselves in 5 minutes. The data of pre-test and post-test was analyzed by using independent sample t-testSPSS2.0. The result showed that video-making task significantly effective in increasing students’ speaking score.

Abstract

The purpose of this study were to determine the efficiency of the zoom cloud meeting application in online learning as an alternative solution in the era of the Covid-19 pandemic. The subjects of this study were thirty of English students of the fourth, sixth, and eighth semester at University of Islam Malang. The research was qualitative research. The data collection technique was carried out by giving questionnaires through Google Form and interviews using WhatsApp to thirty students at the Islamic University of Malang. The data were analyzed and interpreted through qualitative procedure. The findings indicate that the students have positive perceptions about the efficiency of the use of Zoom Cloud Meeting Application as an alternative solution in online learning in the pandemic Covid-19. The results of this study indicate that the use of the Zoom Cloud Meeting application makes it easy for teachers and learners to be able to do face-to-face learning. although learning is done online and all users are in different places.

Abstract

This research was aimed at knowing the effectiveness of using storytelling technique in teaching speaking ability. The research question as follow; 1)Is there any significant difference of students’ speaking ability that are technique by using storytelling and role play?, 2) Is there any significant of storytelling technique on the students speaking ability? To answer that question the researcher applied storytelling technique for speaking ability to eight grade junior high school.This research is an experimental research. The instrument was used in this research was pretest and posttest. The students were taken from eight grade junior high school which is consist of two classes. It started by giving pretest, to know the students speaking ability. Then the researcher found two classes with the equal mean score as the research sample. The researcher divided them into experimental and control group. The research is done with pretest and posttest. Where the experimental group was A class which consist of 30 students and the control group was B class which consist of 30 students.The result of data analysis is taken from t observation that is 20.826 with significance level is .000. It can be concluded that the hypothesis of the research is accepted. The writer concludes that there is significant the influence of using storytelling technique on the students’ speaking achievement of grade eight.Keywords: Speaking achievement, Storytelling technique, Narrative text

Abstract

The research analyzed the development and implementation of lesson plan in the teaching of English at SMA AROHMAH DAU. The research expounded the process and steps in developing lesson plan and the difficulties faced by teacher in implementing the lesson plan in the process of teaching and learning activity. The subject of this research were the first-class English teacher at SMA AR-ROHMAH DAU.The objectives of the research are to investigate how the English teacher develops the lesson plan and to investigate the difficulties faced by the English teacher in implementing the lesson plan.The method of the research is qualitative to analyze the data. The technique of collecting data is documentation studies and interview with the first-class English teacher and interview the teacher with some questions.The findings of the research indicated that, firstly, the first-class English teacher has some steps to develop lesson plan. Those are identifying the learning objectives, planning the specific learning activities, planning to assess student’s understanding, planning to sequence the lesson in an engaging and meaningful manner, creating a realistic timeline, planning for a lesson closure, modifying the used teaching-method, combining the motivation section inside, maximizing the sophisticated technology toward the implemented lesson plan, and evaluating the process of implementation of lesson plan. Second, the difficulties faced by the teacher in implementing the lesson plan are controlling the students, measuring the quality of the student’s capacity, noisy condition and lack of time that tend to happen when the process of teaching-learning activity has been done yet.

Abstract

AbstractThis study aimed to measure the relationship between language learning strategies and English motivation toward English proficiency of EFL learners. SILL questionnaire, English motivation questionnaire, and also simple TOEFL test were administered to 37 diploma EFL learners in Malang. All the instruments were administered via G-form in pandemic COVID-19. The SPSS was applied to calculate the multiple regression. The results showed that there were no significant relationship between language learning strategies and English motivation; there were no significant relationship between English motivation and English proficiency; and there were no significant relationship between language learning strategies, English motivation, and English proficiency simultaneously. This results may be useful for understanding the language assessment in measuring students’ ability. To gain deep information, further researcher can combine interview method to measure students’ language learning strategies and English motivation.
