Abstract

The cello is a musical instrument that plays a vital and distinctive role in the keroncong music ensemble, primarily as a rhythm keeper during the performance. Nowadays, the way the cello is played in keroncong seems to have evolved. Many young artists are now trying to develop their playing style in new directions, such as by adapting it to other music genres. This indicates that playing the cello in keroncong is not static but continues to evolve alongside changing musical tastes, advancements in technology, and socio-cultural factors, leading to a variety of playing styles among its musicians. The keroncong community in Pacitan experienced this same trend: artists from different generations interact, blend, and create diverse playing styles. This study aims to identify the various cello playing styles within the keroncong music community in Pacitan. The research method is qualitative, employing a musicology approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and document review, with data triangulation used for analysis. The findings show that keroncong cello playing goes beyond traditional practices, shaped by social experiences, cross-genre influences, and each artist's role in the local keroncong scene. The study concludes that keroncong cello styles are varied, reflecting each artist's musical interpretation and evolving according to socio-cultural changes.

Abstract

Mental health issues are increasingly receiving widespread attention across various disciplines, including the field of music. Music serves not only as a medium for entertainment and communication, but also as a means of emotional expression and psychological reflection. This study aims to examine the process of creating a musical work that addresses the theme of anxiety disorders through a creative approach that combines musical and non-musical elements. The method used is Practice-Based Research (PBR), an approach that places artistic practice at the core of the research process, with reference to the creative stages of exploration, improvisation, and formation. The result of this study is a musical work entitled Fragile Anxious, a minimalist musical composition that uses glass as the primary medium for producing sound. The creative process in creating this work involves musical techniques such as adaptation, repetition, phasing, and augmentation to build an emotional atmosphere that represents anxiety. This study demonstrates that a simple sound medium, such as glass, can be musically processed to present complex psychological expressions. Furthermore, this work demonstrates how music can be a reflective medium for mental health issues and contribute to the development of creative discourse in contemporary music. Thus, this research not only contributes to the artistic realm, but also opens up an interdisciplinary space between music and psychology.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the process of selecting and implementing learning models in piano instruction for children with autism at Blue Notes Music School. The background of this research is rooted in the need to adapt music education strategies to meet the specific needs of students with autism spectrum disorder, ensuring effective and responsive learning. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving one educator and three autistic students. The results show that the educator adopted a combination of the TEACCH and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) approaches, tailored to the students' visual, emotional, and behavioral needs. The selection process was conducted reflectively and based on the individual responses of students during lessons. The study concludes that the appropriate and adaptive choice of learning models can enhance focus, comfort, and participation of children with autism in piano learning.
