Abstract

The practice of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), also known as female circumcision, is still maintained, especially in Aceh, despite being banned by the WHO and the government. This practice is not taught in the school, including the midwifery school, as midwives are among the healthcare providers who generally offer this service. The dynamics of policy changes and deeply rooted differences in religious and cultural views create confusion for midwives in the field, particularly given the still high demand and community encouragement. The purpose of this research was to analyse the factors influencing the implementation of female circumcision by midwives. This was a cross-sectional study with the population of midwives who were working in the Aceh Province region in 2024. The sample of this study consisted of midwives who provide female circumcision services in Aceh, with a sample size of 86 people. Statistical analysis used the Chi-Square test with the SPSS v.25 . The majority of midwives performed circumcision about 1-2 times a month, and midwives perceived circumcision as a social necessity. Midwives aged ≥ 43 years, with work experience ≥ 13 years, working for ≥ 20 years, possessing good knowledge, and having a positive attitude tended to perform risky circumcisions. The results of the statistical test indicated that there was no significant relationship between age, years of service, duration of providing female circumcision services, knowledge, attitude, and social needs regarding the implementation of female circumcision. The research results indicated that midwives in Aceh continue to practice female circumcision, with the majority performing it in a risky manner. Although midwives have positive knowledge and attitudes, social necessity factors are the main drivers in its implementation

Abstract

traditional and religious practice for girls in Aceh. While Indonesia has ratified international agreements banning Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C), implementation faces unique challenges in Aceh due to strong cultural and religious influences on healthcare practices. Objective: This study examined midwives' implementation of female circumcision following 2024 regulations, exploring practice challenges, conflicts between professional ethics and cultural values, and clinical implications. Methods: We conducted qualitative, phenomenological interviews with 18 midwives from four Aceh regions (Banda Aceh, Southwest Aceh, Central Aceh, and East Aceh), selected through snowball sampling, to capture diverse experiences. Results: Perceptions and responses to FGM regulations, along with value conflicts between legal requirements, professional ethics, and cultural/religious norms. Conclusion: The 2024 regulations have positioned midwives as key agents of change in eliminating FGM/C.However, effective implementation is hindered by information gaps, strong cultural resistance, and insufficient government support.

Abstract

Diarrhea remains a leading health issue among school-aged children in Indonesia. In central Aceh District, particularly in Bies Subdistrict, the incidence of diarrhea has increased, with one the primary contributing factors being poor handwashing with soap (HWWS) practices. Health education using engaging methods, such as the Snakes and Ladders game, may improve children’s behavior related to HWWS. This study aimed to determine the effect of the Snakes and Ladders educational game on HWWS behavior, including knowledge, attitude, and practice, among fourth- and fifth-grade students in the Central Aceh District. A quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent control group was employed, involving 80 respondents divided into an intervention and a control group. The intervention group received HWWS education through the Snakes and Ladders game, while the control group received no special treatment. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U Test and Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. Based on the results of the Mann Whitney test, it showed that there was no significant difference in knowledge between the intervention and control groups during the pretest (p = 0.649), but there was a significant difference in the posttest (p = 0.002). Attitudes showed differences both before (p = 0.000) and after the intervention (p = 0.000). Likewise, actions, there were significant differences in the pretest (p = 0.019) and posttest (p = 0.000). Meanwhile, the Wilcoxon test showed that there was a significant increase between the pretest and posttest in the intervention group, both in knowledge (p = 0.004), attitudes (p = 0.000), and actions (p = 0.000). The snakes and ladders educational game is effective in improving HWWS behavior among elementary school children. It is recommended as an enjoyable and innovative method for health education in school-bassed health programs.

Abstract

Futsal is a sport that requires speed and agility. However, the physical fitness measurements of futsal extracurricular students at MAN 2 Soppeng indicated below average speed and agility. This study aims to compare the effects of combining core stability exercise with plyometric training and ladder training on improving speed and agility. This was a true experimental study with the randomized match two groups design involving 22 students, divided into two groups of 11. Group 1 received CSE+PT, while Group 2 received CSE+LT for 6 weeks. Speed was measured using a 30-meter sprint test, and agility was assessed with the Illinois Agility Test. Both groups showed significant improvements in agility (p=<0.001). For speed, Group 1 showed p=0.003 and Group 2 p=<0.001. However, there was no significant difference between groups for speed improvement (p=0.061), while there was a significant difference in agility (p=<0.001). This study suggests CSE+LT is more effective in enhancing agility).

Abstract

Leucaena leucaena seeds are widely believed to be a plant that can treat various ailments, including diuretics. Leucaena seeds contain a high amount of alkaloids, saponins, flavonoids, tannins, protein, fat, calcium, phosphorus, iron, amino acids, and leucanol. The purpose of this study was to determine whether ethanol extract of leucaena seeds can have a diuretic effect on male white rats. This study used 30 male white rats divided into five groups: Group I (solvent control) with 1% CMC. Group II (comparison) with furosemide. Groups III, IV, and V (treatment) were given ethanol extract of leucaena seeds at doses of 150 mg/kg BW, 300 mg/kg BW, and 600 mg/kg BW, respectively. The test preparations were administered orally using a metabolic cage equipped with a rat urine collector. Observations were made every hour for 8 hours to determine total urine volume. The urine volume of each group was statistically analyzed using ANOVA and the LSD test. The results of the statistical test of urine volume between the furosemide and ethanol extract groups of lamtoro seeds (Leucaena leucocephala (Lam.) de Wit) showed no significant difference. From the results of the study, it can be concluded that the higher the concentration of EEBL suspension given, the more urine volume will be produced, and when the EEBL suspension was given at a dose of 600 mg/kg BW, the results were almost comparable to the group of animals given furosemide suspension.

Abstract

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative joint cartilage disorder that often causes pain and limits functional activity in affected individuals. To evaluate the difference in effectiveness between wall squat exercise and instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) in improving functional activity in patients with sub-acute lutut osteoarthritis. This study used a two-group pre-test and post-test design. The sample was taken from sub-acute lutut osteoarthritis. patients at the Elderly Posyandu within the Trauma Center Health Center in Samarinda, using random assignment techniques. Patients were divided into two groups: the intervention group I received ultrasound therapy (US) and wall squat exercise, while intervention group II received US and IASTM. Each group consisted of 21 patients and received treatment three times a week for four weeks. Functional activity was measured using The Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Arthritis Index (WOMAC). Intervention group I showed a significant decrease in WOMAC scores from 32.33 ± 5.425 to 14.57 ± 3.218 (p < 0.001). Group II also showed a significant decrease, from 35.14 ± 4.453 to 25.43 ± 4.422 (p < 0.01). Group I experienced a greater reduction compared to group II (p = 0.00).The combination of US and wall squat exercise is more effective than the combination of US and IASTM in improving functional activity in patients with sub-acute lutut osteoarthritis.Patients receiving US and wall squat exercise showed a more significant improvement in functional activity. Based on the significant results, it is recommended that further research be conducted over a longer period to assess the long-term effectiveness of the interventions for osteoarthritis sub-acute lutut osteoarthritis

Abstract

Non-specific neck pain in office workers has increased due to changes in work habits after the pandemic. Manual therapy approaches such as Post-Isometric Relaxation (PIR) and Dry Needling (DN) are promising but lack sufficient research support. This study aims to evaluate the effects of PIR combined with DN, as well as compare DN with PIR alone. This experimental study employed a randomized two-group pre-test-post-test design. The intervention group (IG) received DN in addition to PIR, while the control group (CG) received only PIR. Each group comprised 16 participants. The study was conducted over two weeks, with three PIR sessions and two DN sessions per week. Measurements using the Numerical Pain Rating Scale (NPRS) and the Neck Disability Index (NDI) were taken two weeks post-study and at a one-month follow-up. Results showed both groups experienced reductions in NPRS and NDI disability scores at the second-week evaluation with p <0.001. However, there were no significant differences in NPRS and NDI scores at the one-month follow-up (NDI p=0.620 and 0.319; NPRS p=0.705 and 0.206). The intervention group showed better results at the second-week evaluation with NPRS p=0.005 and NDI p <0.001, but not at the one-month follow-up with NPRS p=0.984 and NDI p=0.280. Thus, adding DN to PIR is more effective in reducing pain and disability in non-specific neck pain among office workers.

Abstract

Constraints in breastfeeding are one of the reasons mothers can provide breast milk maximum. Doubt is generally experienced by mothers new to giving birth and breastfeeding for the first time. If the problem is not handled well, it will add to the amount of number failures in exclusive breastfeeding, which has an impact on the bad No, not only on the mother but also on the father and baby. Research This knowledge influence combination of Woolwich massage combined with prayer choice use roll-on Saum Oil connected with efficacy self and breastfeeding process. Research methods use quasi-experiments with use design. Two tests only designed. Variable X consists of massage, Wolwich, and prayer choice, as well as efficacy self, and variable Y, namely the breastfeeding process, using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test with the Monte Carlo approach with control and intervention groups. Research results This shows that the number is 0.000 (<0.05), so there is influence in a way that is simultaneous or together between frequency massage, Wolwich, and self-efficacy towards the breastfeeding process. So that intervention massage, Wolwich, and prayer choice very much affect the breastfeeding process. The hope is to support positive, comprehensive, and related parties still done as much as possible. Possible for exclusive breastfeeding continuity.

Abstract

Kinesiotaping is passive stabilisator, so it is necessary to have a combination of one intervention such as adding Flexi-bar Shoulder Exercise (FSE) as an active proprioceptor stimulator to optimize joint stability and optimalize shooting accuracy for archery. The research method used was a quasi experiment pre and post-test group control with 22 archery athlete, divided into a control group that only received kinesiotaping, and a intervention group that received kinesiotaping and FSE 3 times a week for 4 weeks. Subjects were assessed for proprioceptive ability using the joint position sense test (JPS) of abduction and flexion and shooting accuracy. Based on the difference test pre and post the control group, there were significant differences in flexion JPS (p=0.00), abduction JPS (p=0.00), and shooting accuracy (p=0.03), for the treatment group, there were significant differences in flexion JPS (p=0.00), abduction JPS (p=0.00), and shooting accuracy (p=0.03). Based on the comparison test between the control and treatment groups, there were no significant differences proprioceptive abilities in flexion (p=0.151) and abduction (p=0.00) as well as in shooting accuracy (p=0.163). Combination of FSE with kinesiotaping, can improve proprioceptive abilities and shooting accuracy but did not provide a different effect than the Kinesiotaping group
