Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of the study to know how student perceptions of the online thesis supervision process for students majoring in English Education at the University of Islam Malang. To achieve the above objectives, researchers conducted a type of qualitative descriptive research. Data collection procedures were carried out using questionnaires and interviews. To obtain student perception questionnaire data, the questionnaire was given to all students online using Google Forms. After the participants filled out all the questionnaires, the researcher interviewed four selected students with two interviews and the duration of the interview was 30 minutes with the aim of exploring their perceptions of online thesis supervision. In the data analysis section, the researcher analyzed the data results using quantitative and qualitative techniques. For quantitative data, the researcher used a student perception questionnaire from Mushoriwa (2014). Student perceptions consist of two types of expressions, namely positive and negative. Periodic handling of qualitative data is carried out based on the comprehensive analysis method by Miles and Huberman (1994). It contains three parallel streams: data reduction, data display, and conclusion. In this study, students' perceptions of online thesis guidance said that students' perceptions were more dominant towards positive perceptions such as supervisors providing useful input and helping students in advancing their thesis so that they were able to complete it faster and be more focused when compiling a thesis. Things that need to be considered as suggestions are how in the future to add samples in data collection such as adding lecturers as participants so that it is clearer from student perceptions and lecturers' perceptions.Key words: EFL Students’, Online Thesis Supervision, Perceptions, Undergraduate

Abstract

Abstract: The present study was conducted to investigate deeply the use of metacognitive reading strategies in academic reading by successful students in University of Islam Malang through qualitative approach. Ten invited participants to the interview section are eighth semester students of English Language Education Department, class of 2018, who have high scores on Reading I, II, III, IV courses consistently. The instrument is interview questions adapted from Survey of Reading Strategies (SORS). The results showed that ten successful students utilize various metacognitive strategies in academic reading. In general, support strategies are mostly used by the participants. Further, it is found that there is interconnection among types of metacognitive reading strategies.keywords: Metacognitive strategis, successful Students

Abstract

ABSTRACT: This study aims to investigate the problems faced by students in majoring in Indonesian language and literature education of third semester at University of Islam Malang in vocabulary and their strategies used by students to solve their problems in vocabulary majoring in Indonesian language and literature education of third semester at University of Islam Malang .The research problems were formulated as follows:(1) what are problems faced by non English students in vocabulary? (2) What are the strategies used by non-English students in vocabulary?This research belongs to descriptive qualitative research. The researcher took one student who got highest score in vocabulary test, one student who got lowest score in vocabulary test. They came from third semester Indonesian language and literature education major Indonesian language and literature education major. Interview guide consisting to 7 items related to problems and strategies. The data were analyzed in the form of descriptive qualitative analysis through by using coding, display data, and drawing conclusion by narrating the information taken from the interview guide for students.The findings of the study that the problems faced by English students from third semester in Indonesian language and literature education major of University of Islam Malang were same .The mainly found problems in difficult find new vocabulary collected in memory, difficult in writing and memorizing of vocabularies in activity class .And then the researcher also found strategies used as solution for the their problems including memory strategies and cognitive strategies.Therefore, future researcher is suggested to find new great strategies to help students face to problems especially in vocabulary by using more than one instrument and involve more than two participants with different level by means of providing better generalization. In addition, it is worth to recommend that more detailed issues related to the students’ problems and strategies to solve problem in vocabulary are discussed in the next research. Keywords : Difficulties challenges, learning strategies, and learning vocabulary

Abstract

AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan penerapan model cooperative learning tipe snowball throwing dalam meningkatkan pemahaman konsep matematis materi koordinat kartesius pada siswa kelas VIII MTs Gintangan Banyuwangi Tahun Pelajaran 2018/2019. Pendekatan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah pendekatan kualitatif dengan jenis penelitian tindakan kelas yang dilakukan dalam dua siklus, masing-masing siklus tersebut terdapat empat tahapan yaitu: perencanaan, pelaksanaan, pengamatan, dan refleksi. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII-D MTs Gintangan banyuwangi Tahun Pelajaran 2018/2019 yang berjumlah 28 siswa. Data pada penelitian ini ada dua jenis, yakni data kualitatif dan data kuantitatif. Data kualitatif berupa hasil observasi, hasil wawancara, dan hasil catatan lapangan, sedangkan data kuantitatif dianalisis dengan mencari nilai presentasinya. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa penerapan model cooperative learning tipe snowball throwing dapat meningkatkan kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal yang berhubungan dengan materi koordinat kartesius. Peningkatan rata-rata skor tes akhir siklus dari 72,64 pada sikus I mengalami peningkatan menjadi 81,25 pada siklus II. Dan juga dari 28 siswa hanya 20 siswa yang tuntas pada siklus I dengan persentase ketuntasan tes akhir siklus I hanya mencapai 71,42% sedangkan yang diharapkan adalah ≥ 80% siswa mencapai KKM (nilai 75). Pada siklus II mengalami peningkatan, yaitu 25 siswa yang tuntas dari 28 siswa dengan persentase ketuntasan ketuntasan tes akhir siklus II pemahaman konsep siswa sebesar 89,28%. Kata-kata kunci: Model cooperative learning tipe snowball throwing, pemahaman konsep matematis, koordinat kartesius.

Abstract

Abstract: This present study aims to determine the implementation of teaching English through child games-based on local culture at SD Muslim Cendekia. This study also sought to reveal whether there are advantages in the use of such games. The researcher used a qualitative descriptive research design with a sample of 1 English teacher and 6 students. The instruments used in this study were interviews and documentation. Analysis of data used the data collection, data reduction, display the data, and conclusion. The result showed that local culture based-child games were one of the strategies to teach young learners based on teacher and students on the use of games. The games-based on local culture used are snakes and ladder and go to the zoo. This game is very effectively used in learning speaking and writing skills. In the snakes and ladder game, the focus is more on learning speaking skills, because students are required to make a reflex question or sentence. In the go to zoo game, it focuses more on learning speaking and writing skills, because students are required to make simple sentences and present the results in front of the class. It would be much effective than if the teacher gave only theories. The students would also easily remember what they learned in their lessons by using games. Moreover, the results also demonstrated that the use of games was a way to make the lessons more effective, interesting, and enjoyable for students. Keywords: Young learners, child games, games-based on local culture

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan bentuk, jenis dan fungsi metafora yang terdapat dalam teks lirik kumpulan lagu Letto. Subjek penelitian ini adalah ungkapan metafora yang terdapat dalam teks lirik kumpulan lagu Letto. Objek penelitian ini yaitu bentuk, jenis dan fungsi metafora dalam teks lirik kumpulan lagu Letto. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu metode deskriptif kualitatif. Sedangkan untuk pengumpulan data, peneliti menggunakan teknik simak dan teknik catat. Teknik analisis data dalam penelitian ini dilakukan dengan mencari lagu-lagu dari band Letto, mengindentifikasi, mengklasifikasi, analisis, dan menyimpulkan.Hasil penelitian ini yang pertama, bentuk metafora yang terdapat dalam teks lirik kumpulan lagu Letto meliputi: 1) bentuk metafora nominatif subjektif, 2) bentuk metafora nominatif objektif, 3) bentuk metafora predikatif, 4) bentuk metafora kalimat. Kedua, jenis metafora yang terdapat dalam teks lirik kumpulan lagu Letto meliputi: 1) metafora antropomorfik, 2) metafora sinestesia, 3) metafora pengabstrakan, 3) metafora kehewanan. Ketiga, fungsi metafora yang terdapat teks lirik kumpulan lagu Letto meliputi: 1) fungsi ekspresif, 2) fungsi mengurangi mononitas, 3) fungsi tersirat.Kata Kunci: Analisis, Metafora, Lirik Lagu.

Abstract

Abstrak: Penelitian ini memfokuskan pada tuturan tokoh seri Layangan Putus karya Benni Setiawan yang mengandung pelanggaran dan pematuhan pada prinsip kerja sama. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan bentuk tuturan tokoh pada seri Layanagn putus yang mengandung pelanggaran dan pematuhan prinsip kerja sama. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kualitatif dengan jenis deskriptif, yaitu mendeskripsikan data yang diperoleh dari hasil analisis yaitu tuturan tokoh yang mengandung pelanggaran dan pematuhan prinsip kerja sama pada seri Layangan putus. Data yang diperoleh berupa tuturan tokoh atau dialog tokoh seri Layangan Putus yang mendung pelanggaran dan pematuhan. Teknik pengumpulan data yaitu teknik simak dan teknik catat, dengan menyimak video seri Layangan Putus episode 1 A, mencatat tuturan yang mengandung pelanggaran dan pematuhan prinsip kerja sama, mengklasifikasikan data yang dianalisis, mengkelompokan data ke dalam instrument. Hasil penelitian ini berisi tuturan tokoh yang mengandung pelanggaran dan pematuhan prinsip kerja sama pada episode 1 A seri Layangan Putus karya Benni Setiawan dengan hasil, (1)Pelanggaran prinsip kerja sama yang ditemukan terjadi pada 4 maksim yaitu (a) maksim kuantitas, (b) maksim kualitas, (c) maksim relevansi, dan (d) maksim pelaksanaan dengan jumlah data 32 data pelanggaran. (2) Pematuhan Prinsip kerja sama yang ditemukan terdapat pada 4 maksim yaitu (a) maksim kuantitas, (b) maksim kualitas, (c) maksim relevansi, dan (d) maksim pelaksanaan dengan data 15 data pematuhan.Kata Kunci: prinsip kerja sama, pelanggaran prinsip kerja sama, pematuhan prinsip kerjasama, seri layangan putus.

Abstract

Abstract: This research is aimed to find the comparison of students’ speaking ability between male and female in second semester of University of Islam Malang. The specific of this research were to find out whether there is a significant difference between male and female students’ speaking skill in second semester of English Department in University of Islam Malang. The population of this study were 48 students and the sample were 33 students; 15 male students and 18 female students. In collecting the data, the researcher used speaking test and the topic was describing someone. To determine the comparison between two variables researched, the researcher used independent sample t-test formula and analysed by using SPSS version 20.0. The findings showed that the Sig. (2-tailed) is .974. it can be concluded the Sig. (2-tailed) ≥ .05. It means that null hypothesis (H0) is accepted, therefore the alternative hypothesis (H1) is rejected. in conclusion, there is no significant difference between male and female students’ speaking ability in second semester of University of Islam Malang although the result of mean score of female students was higher than male students, even it is only slightly different. Key words: Speaking ability, Extrovert personality

English Education Department Faculty of Teacher Training and Education University of Islam Malang. Advisors 1) Muhammad Yunus, S.Pd., M.Pd. 2) Fitri Awaliyatush Sholihah, S.Pd., M.Pd. Key Terms: Perception; Online Learning. Online learning has widely applied in the field of education. It is claimed that online learning is effective. However, the students’ perception toward its implementation is not measured yet. On the implementation of teaching mode, the students also needs to be considered since student is one of the important components in the learning process. This study aimed to identify the students’ perception toward the implementation of online learning in learning English as well its advantage and challenge. The result will give an important consideration for the educational field to develop the implementation of online learning.The study employed descriptive qualitative design. The participants involved in this study were the students’ of English education department University of Islam Malang. There were five classes of this intake with a total number of 168 students. Those classes were 2018A, 2018B, 2018C, 2018D and 2018E. However, the researcher took 6 students of each class as the subject of the study. Two instruments were used in this study which included: questionnaire and interview. The parameter was adopted from Kalpana (2010) by considering on three aspects which include: student's usage of internet and knowledge of online learning, student's perception on benefits of online learning, and the challenge of online learning. The process of data analysis included data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The data gathered were then verified by an expert validator.The result of this study indicated that the students have low perception about online learning. It is because online learning gave the students some obstacles in the learning process. Those obstacles were such as: facilities, internet access, and the online learning itself. There was no clear guidance provided in online learning. These findings suggest that the implementation of online learning at English education department University of Islam Malang needed to be considered and developed.

Abstract

Abstrak:Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kemampuan penalaran matematis peserta didik pada materi bangun ruang prisma ditinjau dari self regulated learning kelas VIII SMP MTs Darul Ulum Bangkalan, dan untuk mendeskripsikan tingkat kemampuan penalaran matematis peserta didik pada materi bangun ruang prisma ditinjau self regulated learning kelas VIII MTs Darul Ulum Bangkalan. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan jenis deskriptif. Subjek dalam penelitian adalah peserta didik kelas VIII A MTs Islam Darul Ulum Bangkalan yang berjumlah 6. Instrumen dalam penelitian ini terdiri dari instrumen utama dan instrumen pendukung yaitu angket, tes soal, dan pedoman wawancara. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data dalam penelitian ini, dapat disimpulkan bahwa: (1) Kemampuan penalaran matematis peserta didik yang memiliki self regulated leraning tinggi dapat memenuhi semua indikator kemampuan penalaran matematis, yaitu a) peserta didik mampu menganalisis situasi matematik, b) peserta didik mampu merencanakan proses penyelesaian, c) peserta didik mampu mememecahkan persoalan dengan langkah yang sistematis, dan d) peserta didik mampu enarik kesimpulan yang logis, (2) Kemampuan penalaran matematis peserta didik yang memiliki self regulated learning sedang hanya mampu memenuhi dua indikator kemampuan penalaran matematis, yaitu a) peserta didik mampu menganalisis situasi matematik, b) peserta didik mampu merencanakan proses penyelesaian, (3) Kemampuan penalaran matematis peserta didik yang memiliki self regulated learning rendah hanya mampu memenuhi satu indikator kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis, yaitu a) peserta didik mampu menganalisis situasi matematik. Kata Kunci: kemampuan penalaran matematis, bangun ruang prisma, self regulated learning
