Abstract

The choice of institutional development for Jakarta as Indonesian capital city can be the barometer of equity and fairness as value to whole developing nation, especially for urban development in Indonesia. If megalopolis concept proposed by Sutiyoso received without reverse, then we have disease to the equity and fairness values as a nation state. Megalopolis is a city characterized by: (1) huge population and density; (2) national and international networking scale; (3) huge integrated spatial. The problematic situation of urban development in Jakarta is urgent, but it is un-fair and unequal if development of other cities in Indonesia is abandoned. The choice to develop megalopolis is still unclear.

These initial findings will be used intentionally in another study which is try to find out the relationship between children intention to consume and their commitment to future market as they grown up and second objective of this study is to develop an initial and appropriate questionnaire for the children which we realize is different from questionnaire for the adult people.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to obtain a theoretical model on cleanliness behavior of the urban society. This model was built based on the pattern of cleanliness behavior which was studied by observing the psychological factors within the individual and the socio-physical factors related to the participants. The indicator used to measure the cleanliness of the environment was the quantity of garbage scattered around the observed location. By living in the society, the researchers could observe and investigate the occurance of cleanliness behavior in the urban region. Direct observation was conducted in 4 (four) clean and 4 (four) dirty group of locations. Qualitative methods were used to process the information from those groups, in order to get significant information regarding the differences and similarities from those locations. The result showed that society’s day-to-day collective action toward garbage created a pattern of cleanliness behavior that is relatively permanent. A series of collective actions which were not in accordance with the communal motive formed cleanliness behavior pattern “X” and created a condition of dirty environment. Meanwhile, the other series of collective actions which were in accordance with the communal motives formed cleanliness behavior pattern “Y”. The collective efforts of the society in a p

Abstract

Adolescent is a vulnerable group in reproductive health area. This period is marked by strong desire to try and explore new things. Pornography is a medium which can influence adolescent toward high risk sexual behaviour. The exposure to pornographic materials is a serious problem among adolescent since it could have negative impacts such as unwanted pregnancy, unsafe abortion, sexually transmitted diseases and HIV-AIDS. This cross-sectional study was conducted to understand various types of pornographic exposures, effects of pornographic exposure, and factors influence the effect. Study was conducted at five state junior high schools in Pontianak District in 2008 with 395 respondents from December 2007 to January 2008. The result shows that 83.3 % adolescence has exposed to pornography and 79.5% of them had experienced the effects of pornographic exposure. 19.8% respondent who experienced the effects of pornography was in the addiction stage. 69.2% respondent of those in addiction stage was in escalation stage. 61.1% respondent of escalation stage was in desensitization stage, and 31.8% respondent of desensitization was in act-out stage. Multivariate analysis shows that there were four variables that have significant relationship to the effect of pornographic exposure, that is gender (male), grade at school (third), length of exposure (recent) and frequency of exposure (often). The analysis also shown that the frequency of pornography (often) is the most dominant factor related to the effect of pornographic exposure among adolescence with Odds Ratio of 5.02 (95% CI: 1.39-18.09). It is suggested to provide information in a professional way and targeted to the right group; to improve preventive efforts through collaboration within school, and to study further as to align positively those in the act-out stage.

Abstract

There have been some misfits between the practice of urban planning at a macro scale and the needs of the society at a micro scale. This paper intends to discuss this issue by illustrating a case of high density urban housing as a supporting system for the activities in a traditional market as urban public facilities. The case suggests a dialog between the physical space determined by macro-scale planning and the everyday social life of the community living in the housing surrounding the market. The housing plays an important role as a living space for the market workers and as a setting for various activities that support the trading activities in the market. Unfortunately, there is a tendency that despite its importance, the quality of the housing is still far from sufficient as a space for living. The findings in this study suggest that the practice of urban design, especially in the provision of public facilities, needs to integrate macro urban scale with more micro everyday life of the communities. The practice of urban design needs to be sensitive to the diversity in urban environment and the interrelationships between urban elements. In this way, it would be possible to create urban environment that caters for the needs of its inhabitants in a sustainable way, both at macro scale and micro scale.

Abstract

This is a research about effectiveness of businesswomen leadership in four different ethnic groups in Indonesia. The effectiveness is measured in a condition where the leadership is supported by several factors, such as intrapersonal skills, interpersonal skills and culture. The subjects of this research are 216 female leaders of business units that consist of at least 10 employees, from Bali in Bali, Java in central Java, Minangkabau in West Sumatra and Batak tribes (Karo, Angkola, Mandailing) in North Sumatra. The result of this research shows that the examination of hypotheses using the theoretical model consisting of intrapersonal factors (leadership intelligence, sex roles, educational background), interpersonal factors (assertiveness, leadership style and leadership behaviour), and culture (family, business environment, and cultural environment) can be used to explain leadership effectiveness, although the influence of the three factors above are not significant. Almost all business women have a transformational leadership style. A more meaningful parameter to measure female leadership effectiveness, a larger number of subjects in each ethnic group, and variations of business fields are suggested.

Abstract

This research attempts to build a structural model based on an integrative approach to explain labor intention to participate in collective action. This research is relevant as most of the existing theories and approaches explain the collective action phenomena partially. The main objective of this research is to analyze the integrative approach of psychological social psychology (individual factors), sociological social psychology (inter-group relation factors) and social constructionism (societal factor) in explaining labor intention to participate in collective action, such as demonstrations and labor strikes. This integrative approach research tested a theoretically derived pattern of specific relationship between individual level of analysis, inter-group relation and societal or ideological level of analysis where each level of analysis was represented by one or more theories. The research model proposes three exogenous latent variables namely: social representation, organizational commitment and union commitment, and four endogenous latent variables that are: social identity, relative deprivation, expectancy-value motives and intention to participate in collective action. These research findings proved that an integrative approach model which was represented by expectancy-value motives (individual level), both relative deprivation and social identity (inter-group level) and social representation (societal level) explain the labor intention participating in collective action was significant in non participant sample. On the other hand, in participant sample there were only two factors namely inter-group relation and societal context which explain the emerging of the labor intention participating in collective action.

Abstract

The aim of this researh is to expose the phenomenon in Banten Residency after the Dutch occupied the region. There are four steps used in this research, i.e. collecting historical sources (heuristic), critique, interpretation and historiography (writing the history). This research result that the two sides of the civil government did not work well. Not long after Banten was occupied by the Dutch, several prominent Bantenese figures, especially those who were proDutch discussed the future status of the region. The Information Department of Banten Residency who was pro-Dutch offered several alternatives for the people of Banten to choose. The alternatives were: (1) Banten became the 13th province of the Dutch Kingdom; (2) Banten joined the United States of Indonesia as a state or got a special status; (3) Banten indirectly joined the United States of Indonesia. First this region joined the state of Pasundan or the Federal District of Jakarta. If Banten joined the state of Pasundan, there are two options, firstly this district as a residency or secondly, as a state or an exclusive territory. Those alternatives were presented to the People Representative Board of Banten for the people to choose and to appoint a delegation who would present their choice to the Round Table Conference in the Hague (Den Haag). But the body did not follow the aspiration of the representative board. This body just had to wait for the conference decision. Based on the conference decision, Banten remained as a part of the Republic of Indonesia which was a state in the United States of Indonesia.
