Abstract

This research aimed to evaluate the effect of different floor levels in a multi-tiered housing system on the production performance of broiler chickens at Khaerun Farm, Purwojati District, Banyumas Regency. The research was conducted on 20,000 broiler chickens of the Cobb CP 707 MV strain, reared in a two-tiered house with approximately 10,000 birds per floor. The observed parameters included feed consumption, body weight gain (BWG), final body weight, depletion, and Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR). The study employed an observational method, which was analyzed using a t-test to determine the significance of differences between the floor levels. The results indicated that there were no statistically significant differences (p>0.05) in all performance parameters between the first and second floors. Although there were slight variations in temperature and humidity between the floors, these differences did not significantly affect production performance. These findings suggest that proper housing management can maintain optimal broiler performance regardless of floor level differences in a multi-tiered housing system.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the optimal dosage of several effective microbes in increasing the growth and growth analysis of sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L.) Cilembu variety. The study was conducted on Jl. Raya Bromo, Pasrepan 1 Hamlet, Pasrepan District, Pasuruan Regency, at an altitude of about 600-800 meters above sea level with an average temperature of 22°C to 32°C. This study took place from October 2024 to April 2025. The method used in this study was a Randomized Block Design (RAK) with one factor consisting of four treatments and six replications. The treatments given included; P0: control (without microbial administration), P1: administration of microbes at a dose of 3 g l-1, P2: administration of microbes at a dose of 5 g l-1, and P3: administration of microbes at a dose of 7 g l-1. The data obtained were analyzed using analysis of variance (F test) at the 5% level. If a significant effect is found, the Least Significant Difference (LSD) test is performed at a 5% level. The results showed that the use of several microbes at a dose of 5 g l-1was the most effective dose in increasing the growth of Cilembu sweet potato plants. The 5 g l-1 dose produced the highest results in various growth parameters, including vine length, leaf number, leaf area, dry weight of the upper and lower parts of the plant, and leaf area index. Furthermore, this treatment also resulted in a higher plant growth rate compared to other treatments. The use of higher doses did not always result in significant increases, so the 5 g l-1 dose can be recommended as the best treatment to support optimal sweet potato growth.

Abstract

Organic fertilizer requires a relatively long decomposition time, and its final quality is greatly influenced by microbial activity during fermentation. The use of activators has been shown to accelerate composting and improve the physical and chemical properties of the resulting fertilizer. This study aims to determine the effects of different types of activators on moisture content, pH level, organoleptic properties (colour, aroma, and texture), and composting time of organic fertilizer, and to identify the most effective activator. The research employed an experimental method using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD), with four treatments control, EM4, Promi, and Caturbio, each with five replications. Data were analyzed using one-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), and when significant differences were found (p < 0.05), mean comparisons were performed using Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT). Organoleptic data were analyzed using the Kruskal–Wallis test followed by pairwise comparisons when applicable. The results indicated that the type of activator had a significant effect (p<0.05) on reducing moisture content and composting time, as well as significantly (p<0.05) improving aroma and texture. However, it did not significantly affect (p>0.05) the pH level or colour of the compost. The caturbio treatment yielded the best results, with the lowest moisture content (48.56 ± 4.01%), the best texture and aroma, and the fastest composting time (26.20 ± 0.83 days). The presence of microorganisms such as Azotobacter sp., Bacillus sp., Lactobacillus sp., and Trichoderma sp. in Caturbio played a key role in accelerating the decomposition of organic matter. It can be concluded that the type of activator influences the quality and efficiency of the composting process. Caturbio was found to be the most optimum activator in reducing moisture content, accelerating decomposition time, and enhancing the aroma and texture of the compost compared to the other treatments.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of feed treatments on Average Daily Gain (ADG) and feed conversion in rams. The sheep we used were 16 Fat Tail Sheep (FTS) with four treatments and four replications applied: P0 (ad libitum field grass hay as control); P1 (P0 + pellets 0.5% of body weight); P2 (P0 + pellets 1% of body weight); and P3 (P0 + pellets 1.5% of body weight). The parameters observed were average daily gain and feed conversion, and the data were analyzed by ANOVA and further tested using Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at a 95% confidence level. The results showed that a significant difference (p<0.05) in average daily gain, with the best treatment in P3 at 52.81 g/head/day. Feed conversion also showed a significant difference (p<0.05) between the best treatments in P3, with the best treatment at 15.74. It can be concluded that the addition of pellets with a dose of 0.5% to 1.5% of body weight can increase average daily gain and feed conversion. Therefore, the use of local pellet feed has strong potential as an alternative fattening ration to optimise sheep production performance.

Abstract

The ruminant livestock sector constitutes a critical component in ensuring food security and strengthening regional economies, thereby necessitating spatial analyses to identify its development potential. This study employed secondary data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) of Majalengka Regency covering the period 2020–2024. The objective was to examine the spatial distribution and regionalization of ruminant livestock enterprises using the Location Quotient (LQ), Localization Index (LI), and Specialization Index (SI). The commodities analyzed comprised sheep, goats, cattle, and buffalo across sub-districts within the regency. The findings revealed that sheep represent the dominant commodity, characterized by consistently high LQ, LI, and SI values, thus establishing their role as the primary basis for regional livestock development. Goats demonstrated moderate index values, indicating potential as an alternative for expansion. Cattle exhibited relatively even distribution across sub-districts but were not identified as a leading commodity. Buffalo recorded the lowest index values, underscoring their role as a complementary species. These results underscore the importance of commodity-based planning, particularly emphasizing sheep development, to enhance the competitiveness and sustainability of the livestock sector in Majalengka Regency.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of adding fermented coconut dregs to rations on the percentages of internal organs and abdominal fat in broiler chickens. The research was conducted in the experimental cage of the Animal Husbandry Study Program at Khairun University, Fitu Village, South Ternate City. This study utilized 80 broilers in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) comprising four treatments and four replications, with each replication consisting of 5 broilers. The treatments were: R0 (100% commercial feed), R1 (10% fermented coconut pulp + 90% commercial feed), R2 (20% fermented coconut pulp + 80% commercial feed), and R3 (30% fermented coconut pulp + 70% commercial feed). The data obtained were analyzed using one-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and further tests with the Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT). The study's results showed that providing fermented coconut dregs in the ration had no significant effect (P > 0.05) on the percentage of internal organs. However, they had a significant effect (P < 0.05) on the percentage of abdominal fat in broilers. It can be concluded that providing fermented coconut dregs up to 20% in the ration does not affect the weight of internal organs, namely the liver, heart, gizzard, and abdominal fat.

Abstract

The Ngronggo Wholesale Market in Kediri City generates predominantly organic waste, primarily vegetable waste. The development of ruminant livestock for urban farming in Kediri City is highly dependent on the land's carrying capacity, which has the potential to serve as forage for animal feed. Utilizing processed market vegetable waste as silage for ruminant livestock is one alternative to address this issue. This research aims to determine the capacity of ruminant livestock to utilize the vegetable waste silage. The research design used was a qualitative descriptive design, collecting data on the amount of vegetable waste, the number of livestock, and livestock capacity. The potential availability of vegetable waste silage from the Ngronggo Wholesale Market in Kediri City in 2024 is estimated to be 11,186.56 kg DM/year (Dry Matter/year), 378.11 kg CP/year (Crude Protein/year), and 8,423.48 kg TDN/year (Total Digestible Nutrients/year). Consequently, the potential of the vegetable waste silage from the Ngronggo Wholesale Market in Kediri City can fulfill the needs of 2,983.08 Animal Units (AU) based on DM availability, or 840.24 AU based on CP availability, or 3,743.77 AU based on TDN availability. This research concludes that silage made from vegetable waste from the Ngronggo Wholesale Market is sufficient to supply over 50% of the total animal units in Kediri City.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the transformation of knowledge among beef cattle farmers through agricultural extension services in Karangpandan Regency. In rural areas, beef cattle farming is generally traditional and managed based on inherited experience without adequate scientific support. This study used a quantitative descriptive approach with 30 respondents selected purposively. Data were collected through interviews and questionnaires. The analysis used multiple linear regression analysis to examine the influence of extension services (as educators, disseminators of information/innovation, facilitators, consultants, and supervisors) on the level of knowledge of beef cattle farmers (selecting seeds, providing appropriate feed, livestock maintenance methods, pen maintenance, and livestock health management). The results showed that most respondents were in the productive age group (31–50 years), with relatively low levels of education and varying farming experience. Farmers generally had moderate to high levels of knowledge, especially regarding pen management and animal health, while knowledge about breeding was still limited. The role of agricultural extension agents as educators, information/innovation disseminators, facilitators, and supervisors had a significant positive effect on improving livestock farmers' knowledge (p < 0.05). Meanwhile, the role of consultants did not show a significant effect. This study concludes that extension services play a strategic role in empowering and transforming the knowledge of beef cattle farmers through a participatory and needs-based approach. To improve the effectiveness and sustainability of livestock extension programs, it is recommended to strengthen the capacity of extension workers and optimize their facilitation and supervision functions.

Abstract

Brucellosis is a strategic zoonotic disease that significantly affects animal health, human health, and the livestock economy. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the Rose Bengal Test (RBT) as a screening method and the Complement Fixation Test (CFT) as a confirmatory diagnostic tool using serum samples collected from various districts and cities in Central Java. The research was conducted at the Regional Veterinary Laboratory (Balai Besar Veteriner) in Wates, Yogyakarta, from April to June 2025. A total of 3,393 serum samples were examined. The RBT results showed a higher number of reactive cases compared to the CFT outcomes; however, several reactive samples were not confirmed as positive upon retesting with the CFT. Boyolali recorded the highest number of confirmed cases (12 cases), followed by Kudus (6 cases), Batang (2 cases), and Banyumas (1 case). The findings demonstrate that RBT serves as a rapid and practical screening tool, yet confirmation through CFT remains essential to ensure diagnostic accuracy. These results emphasize the need for combining laboratory diagnostic methods with strict biosecurity implementation and livestock monitoring, particularly in densely populated farming areas.
