Abstract

Rare collections are a source of information that has an important position in libraries. This collection contains various information related to culture, customs and traditions sourced from ancient texts and manuscripts. It is created by human civilization which are products of traditional knowledge or is called Indigenous Knowledge (IK). This collection is documented so that its information value can continue to flow from generation to generation. The high value of information contained in rare collections places them as a source of reference and research material for researchers and public. Libraries need to manage and preserve these collections so that they can be utilized optimally. This paper aims to describe the various stages in managing and preserving IK in rare collections. The method used is literature study to answer the problems. The results of the analysis show that the stages of management and preservation of IK in rare collections consider the following steps: 1) libraries need to develop policies for collection development and preservation; 2) the library considers the existence or placement of the collection; 3) the nature, form, or format of the collection; 4) physical preservation; and 5) challenges and opportunities and that can be considered in collection management.

Abstract

Libraries as one of the institutions that manage and disseminate information, are required to present information that is easily accessible anytime and anywhere needed by users. Based on this, the library needs to collaborate in order to maximize efforts in fulfilling information needs to users. The purpose of this paper is to find out how international collaboration is implemented in libraries. Collaboration can improve the quality of management and services in the library so that all activities in the library become more effective and efficient. Collaboration can be done nationally or internationally. Internationally there are several organizations that accommodate in the field of library and information science including IFLA, COCI, and CONSAL. The realization of international library collaboration is found in academic libraries, namely American Corner, French Corner, Indian Corner, Japan Corner, Australian Corner, and so on. In addition, an example of a university library that collaborates globally is the Libraries of Leiden University. Libraries of Leiden University is an academic library based in the city of Leiden, the Netherlands. Libraries of Leiden University has many branch libraries in other countries including one of them in Indonesia, precisely in Jakarta, namely KITLV-Jakarta

Abstract

This research aims to determine the role of libraries in the development of children's thinking patterns by using storytelling games to explore the use of learning designed in easy and simple games so that the objects around them are effective in developing critical thinking in groups of children. The role of libraries is very much needed because libraries are institutions that are close to the community, so they can help teachers and parents in training children's thinking patterns to become critical thinking patterns using storytelling games. This research focuses on the role of libraries in children's thinking patterns by using storytelling games. Storytelling games can be a tool to improve children's thinking patterns that can be used by libraries. This research uses a qualitative approach. The research method uses the literature study method. The source and process of data collection in the literature study method is carried out by accessing information from the library, reading, taking notes and processing research materials. Data analysis is carried out through a summary of the sources that have been found. The analysis process involves data reduction, data presentation, data reduction again, and drawing conclusions from the information that has been collected. The research results show that libraries have a role in improving children's thinking patterns through storytelling games, such as adding fun, increasing imagination and enthusiasm. The method used in storytelling is a narrating method, where this requires the role of the library to increase children's enthusiasm and regulate children's emotions.

Abstract

Research as a way of producing Science or Science is a process that involves various activities. Every activity in the research process produces research data. Open science issues encourage libraries to make role changes. In the open science movement, university libraries are not limited to storing knowledge or science or using science for specific purposes. Still, they must be knowledge collaborators where knowledge generated from research can be accessed, critiqued, duplicated, and reproduced jointly and openly. This paper focuses on librarians' role in applying open science in university libraries using literature study methods. The analysis in this article is about essential libraries to consider how to prepare librarian functions to support the principles of transparency, conduct good data management, and understand research ethics. Librarians play an important role in implementing open science in college libraries as facilitators, research partners, and information managers who support the development of scientific knowledge. Librarians must innovate, create, and improve their ability to manage research data and provide practical support to researchers throughout the process to support transparent research and have a positive impact on universities.

Abstract

The accumulation of information created and stored in organizations, including libraries, has led to the emergence of amounts of data known as big data. This research aims to describe opportunities for using big data in libraries. The method used in this research uses a qualitative approach with a literature review method. Data sources were obtained from various literature such as books, scientific articles, websites and others. The big data phenomenon has an influence on libraries in utilizing technology. Data created in libraries should be used to support library policies using data science concepts. Data science is the science used to manage data so that it is useful for libraries. Opportunities for using big data in libraries include collection recommendations, book layout based on user behavior, analysis of knowledge trends, helping with collection development policies, automatic classification and helping with library promotion. The application of big data in libraries can improve the quality of policy making, restructure library services and publications.

Abstract

This research aims to find out the concept of learning methods in Sanggar Anak Alam (SALAM), namely Learning Cycle and experiential learning by David A. Kolb. The research method used is the literature study method of research related to experiential learning and learning cycle method. The research results of the Learning Cycle method and experiential learning are interrelated, both learning methods center on how the experience of students can be generated as a process of the birth of knowledge. The learning cycle is carried out repeatedly in sequence from the start of learners experiencing, expressing, analyzing, concluding, and applying until learners can achieve their own knowledge. The freedom given by SALAM in achieving knowledge becomes a means for learners to freely experiment, explore, and express.

Abstract

The rapid technological advancements and the evolving needs of users, as well as the requirements of the parent institution, demand libraries to engage in development and innovation according to user preferences. One of the developments and innovations undertaken by libraries is the establishment of collections and services in digital formats. The Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing Library at Gadjah Mada University has built a digital collection and service by developing a website at the link http://infolib.med.ugm. The purpose of this article is to explain best practices employed by the library in developing the library website to support digital services. The website at htttp://infolib.med.ugm contains digital content as one solution to optimize services and meet the needs of academic communities and institutional bodies. The development of this website was initiated in 2005. The website is crucial for the academic community to support learning, research, and access accurate information. However, the website faced challenges and became inaccessible, leading to the creation of Website htttp://infolib.med.ugm release 2 in 2021. There are fundamental differences from the previous release in 2005. In Release 2, the available collection consists solely of digital materials, including books, scholarly works, journal articles, proceedings, and videos. This website proves highly valuable and beneficial in addressing the needs of users to support education, research, and community service.

Abstract

IPDN library has been providing college repository services since 2017 through eprints.ipdn.ac.id, but there has been no measurement related to the effectiveness of the utilization of the IPDN repository service. The purpose of this study is to obtain a general overview of the effectiveness of the use of University repositories in the IPDN Library Jatinangor campus. The study used qualitative methods with data collection through interviews to 15 informants, observation and documentation. The results showed that the IPDN Repositori is provided with the aim to provide convenience for users, especially IPDN lecturers in the storage and assessment of scientific work, but there are still server and network constraints at the time of its utilization. In addition, the IPDN Library has conducted socialization and assistance for users. However, monitoring activities related to the utilization of IPDN repository services are still minimal. In conclusion, the effective utilization of University repositories, especially in the Institute of domestic government (IPDN) is included in the sufficient category. As for the 4 (four) dimensions that become a measure of effectiveness, there is 1 (one) dimension that is still lacking in its application, namely the monitoring dimension, 2 (two) dimensions that are sufficient, namely the dimension of targeting and program goals, 1 (one) dimension that is good, namely the dimension of socialization.
