Abstract

There are many impacts of the conflict Ambon that occurred years ago which are still found in society. Two of them are collective trauma memory and settlement religious-based segregation. The focus of this article is the communal discourse on the settlement pattern of religious-based segregation. The theory as the basic perspective of this study is a socio-linguistic theory developed by Norman Fairclough through Critical Discourse Analysis Approach. The principle notion of this approach is that discourse has an important role in shaping a society. Therefore, the aim of this article is to remind all that because of the complexity faced by the society after the conflict, trust-building, and trauma-healing are programs that all must work on, especially when one talks about religion and nationalism in the Moluccas context.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the reality of the lives of scavengers, the problem of poverty that holds them hostage, and the role of the church in empowering scavengers. The scavenger profession is carried out due to the acute poverty problem experienced by urban communities. Scavengers work by picking up rubbish, such as aqua glass, bottles, iron, and various other rubbish that can be sold, to meet economic needs. Scavengers are always viewed negatively as poor people and often receive discrimination from society in general. Using qualitative research methods, this research conducted observations and in-depth interviews with scavengers to reveal the realities and life experiences of scavengers. Next, descriptive analysis was carried out to show the role and involvement of the church in empowering scavengers. This article finds that the presence of the church today is no longer just a ritual presence, but a presence that empowers people to face various social problems, such as poverty experienced by scavengers. This research offers a concept of churching with scavengers which emphasizes the church's mission to empower scavengers in facing the problem of poverty that binds them.

Abstract

Toraja is widely known for its attractive cultural richness, which is preserved in Rambu Tuka and Rambu Solo. Toraja people see the term saroan as a community formed to strengthen social integration. This article, using qualitative methods and a descriptive phenomenological approach, aims to describe the phenomenon of friendship relations framed in the Saroan tradition. Data about saroan was collected through direct observation and semi-structured interviews, and a literature study was utilized to explore the theme of friendship. The research results found that friendship in saroan is lived by a moral bond that moves group members to be responsible and maintain the value of friendship in the act of mutual acceptance and respect (singga' sengkaran, siporannu, sipopa'di). The friendly relationship built in saroan goes beyond genealogical boundaries (rarabuku), as is also expressed in the book of Proverbs 17:17, about a friend who shows love at all times and becomes a brother in difficulties. Friendly relationships are built through openness and a willingness to give and receive. These values are the glue for harmonization in saroan.

Abstract

The Christian faith offers paradoxes, such as the concepts of Providence and human suffering. Providence is the belief in God's providence as a certainty of faith. However, humans could challenge God's providence because they suffer and even die. This situation puts humans in a dilemma. This article aims to contribute to academic and Christian faith discourse to understand human suffering (death) and God's work in human suffering. Through a study of literature and theological traditions, it was found that the discussion of providence cannot be separated from God's role or work in world history. God works to bring goodness to all His creations. Providence and the experience of suffering seem paradoxical. At the same time, we understand that God cares for us, but at the same time, we cannot deny existential problems, such as death. Death and suffering are realities of life that occur in God's care for His creation.

Abstract

Giving a negative perspective to other groups today is an action that can often be found. This is also the case for the people of Papua, especially Aitinyo, Southwest Papua. The text Exodus 1:1-22 is one of the texts that illustrates a similar problem. Starting from these two problems, this article aims to examine the ideology of Exodus 1:1-22 and dialogue it with the present context. The process of interpretation is done by using the method of ideological criticism from the perspective of indigenous people. In the analysis conducted, it is known that the one-sided depiction of the group is also displayed by the author of Exodus 1:1-22, where the author of the text describes Egypt as the perpetrator of violence in his narrative for the sake of each group of writers. All the historical data that can be collected then provides an important understanding to fight for justice and improve the perspective of Egypt and Aitinyo.

Abstract

There are still many instances of natural resource management that fail to provide benefits and, in fact, often harm the community. The potential of Indonesia's natural resources, which should be utilized for the prosperity and welfare of the people, remains far from that expectation. Therefore, this research aims to propose the concept of Hassan Hanafi's anthropocentric theology to be implemented in managing and utilizing natural resources to improve community welfare. This study employs a qualitative method with a literature review approach. This research indicates that Hassan Hanafi's anthropocentric theology is relevant to natural resource management. Through the attribute of wujud, there is an awareness of the abundant potential of natural resources. Through the attribute of qidam, past mistakes regarding environmental destruction due to excessive resource exploitation are highlighted. Through the attribute of baqa, there is an awareness of the need to preserve and care for nature to ensure sustainability for future use. Through the attribute of mukhalafah lil hawadits, individuals are encouraged to be creative and innovative in utilizing natural resources. The attribute of qiyamuhu bi nafsih fosters independence without external intervention. Lastly, through the attribute of wahdaniyah, there is an awareness of the importance of unity and synergy in managing natural resources.

Abstract

In Indonesia's pluralistic society, implementing the values of justice and freedom often faces significant challenges. Differences in religion, culture, and socio-economic backgrounds necessitate a nuanced understanding of interpreting and applying justice that is not confined to any single group. This article presents an in-depth exploration of Islamic perspectives on the concepts of justice and freedom, focusing primarily on the thoughts of Nurcholish Madjid (Cak Nur) as the main subject of study. This research is a literature review of Cak Nur’s works and scholarly studies of his ideas using a qualitative descriptive method for data analysis. The study finds that while justice, as articulated by Cak Nur, is a cosmic law applicable to all communities and social classes, its implementation must consider the social realities of a diverse society. Similarly, the concept of freedom, viewed as a prerequisite for creating an inclusive and egalitarian society, requires careful attention to the levels of maturity and social development within a pluralistic context.

Abstract

Singing is an important element of congregational worship. Singing with the right meaning and appreciation has an impact on the development of the people. A song must be based on the local context of the congregation. Herein lies the importance of contextualizing congregational singing.  One form of song contextualization is by using ethnic songs in congregational worship. Ethnic songs describe the congregation's local characteristics and are the congregation's identity. Using a qualitative research method, this study aims to find the form of ethnic songs that can be sung in the worship of the GPM Adodo Fordata congregation. In addition, this research also uses the juxtaposition method to juxtapose two forms of singing, namely, psalms and foruk. This research data was obtained from participant observations when the author was the Chairman of the Congregation Assembly for 6 years and interviews with cultural experts in Tanimbar. This research proves that as a form of contextual singing, foruk can be sung as psalms in congregational worship. The application of foruk as psalms is able to help people to live and interpret worship.

Abstract

AbstractThis research explores the values of peace that come from character education, multicultural education, and the philosophy of tembang macapat for developing peace through peace education in the family. This research uses a qualitative method by conducting literature analysis and philosophical analysis of tembang macapat on the YouTube channel. The results showed that first, peace education has four core concepts as a “big umbrella” to develop peace education in a small or local scope, namely: positive peace and negative peace, peace education as a transformative practice, non-violence, and a culture of peace; second, peace education values in the family are categorized into three groups, namely: primary group, secondary group, and tertiary group. Although categorized into three groups, it does not mean that the three have a hierarchical position, one is more important than the other because the categorization effort aims to show the connection of the values obtained from the three different sources; and third, the family is the pillar of peace, so building peace must start from the family. Therefore, peace education in the family must be prepared seriously, considering the microsystem, ecosystem, and macrosystem aspects. Thus, peace education in the family will be more holistic (relevant, contextual, and transformative).

Abstract

Maluku is still ranked as the fourth poorest province in Indonesia. The issue of poverty in Maluku is also a focus of the Maluku Protestant Church (GPM). Through the transformative diaconia program, the church continues to strive to improve the quality of life of the congregation so that they can escape the problem of poverty. This article aims to theologically analyze the ethics of solidarity in the GPM transformative diaconia program. The author uses qualitative research methods with data collection techniques in the form of in-depth interviews with GPM pastors and conducts a literature review to develop tools for analyzing the theology of solidarity ethics. The results of this research show that transformative diakonia is a GPM effort to empower the congregation to be free from the problem of poverty. The author believes that transformative diaconia, which is oriented toward human liberation from poverty is a manifestation of the theology-ethics of solidarity. The author's arguments are outlined in this research, starting from showing the reality of poverty in the Maluku community, interpreting transformative diakonia, the theological-ethical concept of solidarity, and exploring the GPM transformative diakonia service program as a form of ethical theology of solidarity.
