Abstract

This article aims to examine the Maluku Protestant Church (GPM) Congregation Songbook using the kinetic memory study to find the representation of folksong in implementing worship in Maluku.  The author uses descriptive qualitative methods with data collection techniques and interviews with key informants, including the GPM synod chairman and two songwriters from this congregational songbook, to obtain the desired results. Based on the results of the research, the author found that it is true that the GPM congregational songbook is the work of the Maluku people used in the worship life of the Maluku people, which is inseparable from the context of the social and cultural life of the Maluku people so that this congregational song can be referred to as the folksong of the Maluku people which is contextualized by theological and cultural understanding. The next finding also presents several song titles and lyrics that contain kinetic memory so that when sung with body movements, it will liven up the atmosphere of worship that is more vibrant and excite the congregation.

Abstract

This study aims to understand the efforts of the Sikh religion in Indonesia to actualize itself within the context of online media development. Although Sikh adherents are scattered across various locations, the study focuses on the activities of the Sikh community at the Guru Nanak Social Foundation, the most active Sikh community in utilizing online media, particularly through its YouTube channel, to maintain their identity and culture amidst Indonesia's religious diversity. The research employs a qualitative analysis method on the content produced by this community, including the *"Sikh Indonesia Podcast"* series. Data were collected by observing published video content and analyzing interviews and discussions with community members recorded in podcast formats.  The findings indicate that the Sikh community's use of online media serves to preserve tradition and a platform to introduce Sikh religion and culture to a broader audience. Digital content, such as podcasts, plays a crucial in educating the public about Sikh values, strengthening community identity, and facilitating social integration through involvement in social activities like *seva* (community service). This strategy has proven effective in bolstering the Sikh community's existence in Indonesia, expanding public understanding of the Sikh religion, and promoting tolerance within a diverse society.

Abstract

Soekarno's grave in Blitar is busy with pilgrims from various religions daily. This place has become a space for interfaith meetings. The Blitar government also annually facilitates interfaith prayer activities, which are held four times a year as a symbol of fostering a spirit of tolerance. When pilgrims hold a prayer ritual, a third space is formed for social interaction between the first room and the second room. This article aims to answer the ontological question regarding understanding the encounter between interfaith pilgrims who form the third space at the Soekarno Tomb. This article uses a qualitative descriptive method through literature review, observations, and in-depth interviews in the Soekarno Grave Area, Blitar. The research results concluded that interfaith encounters during the pilgrimage at Soekarno's grave created a thirdspace construction according to Edward Soja's theory, which can be applied at the individual, institutional and community levels. Based on these findings, the main argument is that Soja's thirdspace construction is a framework for thinking to build social glue. The thirdspace construction allows humans to interact socially, which connects different characters and traits.

Abstract

Judges 4:6-9 records God's call to Barak to lead the attack against Sisera, with the possibility of receiving the honor of victory. Ironically, however, this honor was ultimately denied to Barak because of the controversy surrounding his decision. Most previous studies have focused on Deborah's role, neglecting the significance of Barak's story. This study explores the key factors that led to Barak's controversial decision to provide lessons for any leader entrusted with responsibility by God. Using a descriptive qualitative approach to understand and describe the phenomenon in depth through non-numerical analysis as well as hermeneutic study, this study found three main factors that contributed to Barak's failure: first, his doubts based on real conditions; second, his reliance on human assurance; and third, his lack of trust in God's power. Barak's failure serves as a valuable warning to today's leaders to recognize weaknesses without losing optimism and confidence in the potential that lies within their God-given responsibilities.

Abstract

The Christian Foundation for Public Health (YAKKUM) is a social foundation engaged in public health, focusing on all religious communities, including marginalized people who do not get justice. This research aimed to analyze how YAKKUM’s works to liberate the rights of marginalized people from the perspective of De La Torre’s liberation theology. This research used a qualitative descriptive analysis method with a literature review approach, observation, and interviews with credible participants. We found that YAKKUM is a social movement in the health sector that transforms the lives of people with services, empowerment, and guidance accompanied by compassion. Through work units, YAKKUM provides transformative services and empowers and guides marginalized people to live in peace and prosperity. YAKKUM’s efforts to liberate marginalized groups are tangible actions that manifest through a vertical relationship with God and are realized horizontally with fellow humans.

Abstract

This article proposes the communion, sharing, together, and gandong models as a new approach that the church can use for interacting in the public spaces of the national and religious in Indonesia. This model is an implication of three important concepts: participational, incarnational, and relational, as such, it becomes an alternative to the unity-equality model as proposed by John Titaley and the exemplary model as proposed in the thought of Eka Darmaputera. By discussing with Titaley and Darmaputera, the author demonstrates that participational, incarnational, and relational must be formulated and constructioned in the ecclesiological (theology) of the churches in Indonesia to show the essence and mission of the Trinity God in their ecclesial-social life. This research indicates that communion, sharing, together, and gandong models provide a wide space to show the church's identity as belonging to the Trinity God and, simultaneously, with the others to enrich life together as a nation of Indonesia.

Abstract

Emotional politics can be an effective strategy to build support or steer public opinion. It can also create polarization and cause social instability if manipulated irresponsibly. Emotional politics is one of the tools rulers use to achieve their goals in terms of weakening or intimidating other parties. The utilization of emotional politics was carried out by unscrupulous authorities, such as the Head of RT, in the case of persecution of Pamulang University students, South Tangerang, who were praying the Rosary in their boarding house. By collecting secondary data from various literature related to the case, This study uses a literature study approach by conducting a literature review to analyze the emotional politics of the authorities mobilizing citizens' emotions to intimidate minority groups. The results showed that religious harmony within the neighborhood association (RT) is still ‘homework’ for the pluralistic Indonesian nation. The practice of intolerance followed by verbal and physical violence is still an issue of human rights violations in the context of an Indonesian state based on Pancasila.

Abstract

East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) is one of the regions frequently affected by suicide issues. The motives or reasons behind suicides in NTT are an inability to cope with the bad realities of life or a failure to face various life challenges. Therefore, this study aims to offer methods to prevent suicide more specifically through the pastoral counseling perspective, especially preventing suicide among Catholic Youth (OMK) in NTT. Because, while growing, developing, finding their identity, and trying to do useful things for their life and future, like young men and women in general, OMK is struggling with themselves and with many things outside of themselves, so OMK needs the good and correct guidance to sustain and direct them to the good and positive things, as well as preventing and keeping them away from the bad and negative things like suicide. This research uses a qualitative research method with a literature review as a means of data collection. Based on the study, it is found that the pastoral counseling perspective can help to prevent suicides among OMK in NTT because pastoral counseling has functions such as healing, sustaining, guiding, reconciling, and nurturing. These functions provide methods, stages, as well as concrete and specific steps to prevent the potential issues related to suicide among OMK in NTT so that OMK in NTT can face the bad realities of life or cope with various life challenges.

Abstract

Liturgy is often interpreted as a form of worship in the church. This interpretation is not entirely wrong. However, liturgy has a much broader understanding. Liturgy is an encounter between humans and God. There is two-way communication in this encounter: God takes the initiative to meet humans, and humans respond to God's touch that greets them. God's touch amid the struggling situations faced should be visible in the liturgy that is compiled. The liturgy needs to address the needs of everyone involved. This forms the basis for writing this article. The author focuses on the liturgy of young people belonging to Generation Z, born between 1995 and 2010, as they have unique struggles and challenges. The church needs to recognize the importance of the presence of young people and pay attention to their worship-related needs. This should be reflected in the liturgy to acknowledge their struggles and make storytelling space that is expressed, allowing them to experience an encounter with God. The method used is a qualitative method, with data collection techniques consisting of literature studies and interviews with young congregants attending worship services. This article offers a liturgical renewal by providing space for storytelling for Generation Z.

Abstract

This article explores the implementation of Christian Religious Education (CRE) in the digital era, with a focus on inclusivism to promote religious moderation in the face of diversity. The background of this research is the increasing challenge of teaching CRE in religiously diverse environments. This study employs literature analysis to examine theories of religious education and religious moderation, as well as evaluate digital platforms used in CRE. This research aims to identify effective teaching strategies that promote inclusive and tolerant attitudes. The novelty of this research lies in its interdisciplinary approach, combining studies in education, technology, and theology. The findings indicate that the use of digital technology can enhance students' understanding of inclusivism and religious moderation values. In conclusion, the integration of technology in CRE has significant potential to strengthen inclusive attitudes in a pluralistic society.
