Abstract

Poverty has been at the core of human civilization and a major problem in the nation-building process. Therefore, this article aims to make relevant the theological meaning of Deuteronomy 15:1–11, which has been studied ideologically, to the reality of poverty in Maluku. This effort was carried out using the literature study method by studying and analyzing several references related to the theological meaning of Deuteronomy 15:1–11 and the dialogue with the context of poverty in Maluku. Based on the research process, a theology of the church with the poor in Maluku was produced. All components are called to understand that God is on the side of the poor and then put it into practice in the reality of life, which is increasingly threatened. The theology of churching with the poor as the main thesis of this research is discussed in three analytical frameworks: revealing the reality of poverty in Maluku, interpreting the ideology of Deuteronomy 15:1–11, and finding the perspective of God's partiality towards the poor. , and ending with the praxis of GPM's ecclesiology.

Abstract

There are many ethnic and sub-ethnic groups, religions, and ideologies in Ambon and Saparua islands. These pluralistic existences imply that differences are a core part of the society which can become a strength to live together, but also a threat to the society.  Ironically, there is a tendency to manipulate these pluralistic existences to become provocative issues to raise tension in these societies. Therefore, this article aims to study how pluralistic societies such as people in Ambon and Saparua islands maintain national integrity through strengthening multicultural identity. By conducting field research and library study, the researcher found out that to develop a multicultural identity, one must have the ability to maintain self-narration. In self-narration, people must have the ability to develop consistent awareness about the continuity of self-biography. Besides, the very basic principle of people in Ambon and Saparua islands to maintain national integrity is through their daily activities as anak negeri which has shaped their religious special identity as Salam-Sarani.

Abstract

Indonesia is a pluralistic country. The Indonesian nation consists of many tribes, cultures, customs, and religions. Diversity can be a threat that gives rise to conflict on the one hand, but on the other hand, it can be an opportunity to build a life together from the diversity of potential and resources we have. Opportunities to build a life together need to be rooted in shared values of peace and solidarity. This research aims to provide one of the foundations for the values of peace, dialogue, and solidarity between religious communities, especially between Christianity and Islam, by rooting it in the meaning of the Biblical narrative regarding Abraham's burial in Genesis 25:7-11. With a hermeneutic approach, the author focuses on the events of Abraham's burial, especially the presence of Isaac and Ishmael to bury their father. The story of the meeting of Isaac and Ishmael, two figures who were later seen as representatives of Christianity and Islam, became the basis for weaving meaning and relevance for encounters and dialogue between two different religious communities.

Abstract

The historical memory of the G30s/PKI creates collective social trauma and revives feelings of hatred and revenge towards the G30s/PKI perpetrators. The families of the perpetrators experienced bad stigma and discrimination, resulting in a burden and historical trauma. This article aims to examine the process of recovering from the historical burdens and trauma experienced by the families of the perpetrators. We offer the concept of the church as a mother who embraces and heals the trauma of the families of G30s/PKI perpetrators. This article uses qualitative methods with a historical analysis and trauma recovery approach, which uncovers and recovers the traumatic history of the families of the G30s/PKI perpetrators. This research found that the trauma healing process is carried out through three stages, namely stabilizing safety, remembering and mourning, and reconnection. The ecclesiology of the church as a mother emphasizes the presence of the church to hear the voices of pain, and accept, guide, and protect the families of G30s/PKI perpetrators like a mother embracing her children. We discuss these findings in three main parts, namely the stages of trauma recovery, the ecclesiology of the church as mother according to John Calvin, and the role of maternal ecclesiology, which embraces the perpetrator's family in the experience of discrimination and historical trauma.

Abstract

Cases of divorce and adultery are found in the context of society today. The issue of divorce and adultery is also discussed in the biblical text with its context. One of them is the Gospel of Matthew, which addresses these two cases in an inseparable frame. It is interesting that divorce issues that occur are often associated with adultery committed by one partner and harming the other party. The divorce case described by Matthew is not desired by Jesus. Jesus is depicted as a character who defends women but does not rule out men. In establishing family ties, men and women are expected to have the same responsibility to maintain the sanctity of the marital relationship that has been built. This study uses library research to produce interpretations and study of the text of the Gospel of Matthew 5: 27-32 by paying attention to women's experiences using a feminist perspective.

Abstract

The understanding of the relationship between the living and the dead is a problematic issue in Christianity, which generally separates the living and the dead. In contrast, traditional Simalungun beliefs recognize the existence of such a relationship, as seen in the ritual of mambere mangan na dob matei. This practice involves the provision of food for deceased ancestors, based on a deep respect for the ancestors as Naibata Nataridah (visible God), who are believed to bless the lives of their descendants. This study uses the literature study research method by conducting a literature review to analyze the Christian ethics of the ritual. The results show that through the Mambere Mangan Nadob Matei ritual, Simalungun Christians believe in the existence of a relationship between the living and the dead, which is based on respect for parents (ancestors) as Naibata Nataridah (visible God) who can bless the lives of their children.

Abstract

The article delineates the significance of acknowledging God within the context of the Christian faith, focusing on the concept of the Incomprehensibility of God. The theological dualism approach to comprehending God - based on theory and actualization - highlights the challenges in understanding His essence. This research aims to explore this concept from the perspective of the Christian faith, particularly the recognition of God through Jesus Christ. Utilizing a qualitative method, an analysis of biblical texts and relevant theological literature reveals that while God is not entirely comprehensible, His revelations provide pertinent knowledge. The research findings affirm that the concept of the Incomprehensibility of God restricts human comprehension of God; however, recognition through Jesus Christ serves as the key to a deeper understanding. The recognition of God through Jesus Christ necessitates faith and an intimate relationship with Him.Kata Kunci: Pengenalan Allah, Dualisme Teologis, Incomprehensibility of God, Wahyu Khusus, Pemahaman Manusia Tentang Allah

Abstract

This article aims to elaborate on the disciple's experience of Pentecost according to the gospel of John. On the one hand, the study's purpose is to introduce the readers to the occurrence of Pentecost that took place during Jesus' appearance to the disciples as narrated in the gospel of John. On the other hand, the study intends to awaken readers' awareness to explore the contrasts and delve into the uniqueness between the narratives of Pentacost as accounted in Acts 2:1-13 and John 20:22-23. Therefore, this article is an exegetical study that focuses on the study of the text and its intercorrelation with the context of the text. Furthermore, it is a great hope that this writing will open a space for theological discourse.

Abstract

This research aims to find out and analyze the theoretical and relevance of Muhammadiyah ijtihad in responding to contemporary problems in Ambon City. This research uses a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. The descriptive method is based on approaches or book sources that are already known. Meanwhile, qualitative approach research is a way to answer research problems by assembling the data obtained. The research results show that Muhammadiyah's Ijtihad in responding to contemporary problems in Ambon City is not discriminatory. Muhammadiyah's Ijtihad in responding to modern problems (gender, feminism, and pluralism) in Ambon City does not conflict with the Qur’an and al-Hadith. Muhammadiyah's Ijtihad decision in Ambon City still refers to the Ijtihad decision of Muhammadiyah Central Leadership.
