Abstract

Emulsion Polymerization of Etyl Acrylate: The Effect of Surfactant, Initiator Concentration and Polymerization Technique on Particle Size Distribution. Emulsion polymerization was conducted using ethyl acrylate monomer. The effect of sodium lauryl sulfate concentration, ammonium persulfate concentration, the various of polymerization techniques and feeding time to the conversion, particle size and its distribution were observed. The purpose of this research is to obtain the optimum condition of ethyl acrylate homopolymer with particle size around 100 nm, to get the particle size distribution monodisperse and to get solid content value of the experiment closed to its theoretical value. The optimum condition then could be applied in shell polymerization of core-shell polymers. The results of the research showed that semicontinuous technique obtained optimum sodium lauryl sulfate concentration at 20 CMC (critical micelle concentration) and ammonium persulfate concentration is 3%. By using batch technique that the biggest particle size is 123 nm with conversion 95.8% and monodisperse. The shorter of feeding time the more monomer of ethyl acrylate being polymerized, it is showed by the higher conversion up to 94.4% and the bigger particle size is 107.9 nm.

Abstract

Preparation process of 2-aminoethylsulfonic acid (taurine) from ethanolamine, sulfuric acid and sodium sulfite has been studied. The process involves two steps of reactions, the first was esterification of ethanolamine (H2N-CH2-CH2-OH) with sulfuric acid to produce the intermediate product of 2-aminoethyl ester (H2N-CH2-CH2-OSO3H) which then was extended to the second step by sulfonation with sodium sulfite to produce 2-aminoethylsulfonic acid (H2N-CH2-CH2- SO3H). These two process conditions were observed by varying mole ratio of reactants, temperature and time period of reactions. Taurine product was qualitatively analyzed using 1 H-NMR and LC-MS. Physical-chemical analysis were done by observing its melting point and determining its water, chloride and sulfate contents. Its melting point, water content, and sulfate content were 290o C, 0.303%, and 3 ppm, respectively, while its chloride content was undetected. After purification, the yield of process was 25.57%.

Abstract

Crustacean composition on mangrove Mahakam Delta, East Kalimantan. The research was conducted in Mangrove area, Mahakam Delta, East Kalimantan. The aim of this research was to analyze the diversity and the richness of crustacean. The research was done in the locations where dense area (Muara Ilu I), moderate area (Muara Ilu II, P. Tunu) and rare area of mangroves Muara Pantuan (P. Lagenting Luar). The transect research method was used stand upright line of the seashore for mangrove and crustacean. The result of environment parameter shows relative in good condition for living mangrove and crustacean organisms. Total founded crustacean were 40 species and 9 families. The 38 species were non economic values and 2 species were economic values: Varuna yui and Scylla olivacea, also founded 2 new species: Metaplax sp. nov. (Grapsidae) and Macrophthalmus sp. nov. (Sesarmidae). The highest crustacean density varies depend on the environment characteristic of the research station. The highest density was 1456 ind/m2 (station 6) and the lowest density was 27 ind/m2 (station 8). Diversity Index was lower category (H’ = 3.0700), while Similarity Index (E = 2.0180) was high enough, so the distribution of crustacean relatively similar. Dominancy Index was low (C = 1.6270). While the highest mangrove diversity Index was at Muara Ilu I (H = 2.14) and following by Muara Ilu II (H = 1.40) and Mauara Pantuan (H = 2.03). Over all the three locations of mangrove vegetation (tree, belta and seed) are in the lower categories diversity index, similarity index and dominance index.

Abstract

The Biodegradation of Phenanthren by Marine Bacteria Pseudomonas sp KalP3b22 from Kumai Central Borneo. The study of the potential marine bacteria that degrade Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) was already done among several marine bacterium isolated from the contaminated sea water collected in Kumai Port area. The biodegradation rate of phenanthrene by selected bacteria Pseudomonas sp Kalp-3b22 was 59,5% after 29 days cultivation. The structural determination of degradation product was deduced as 1-naphtalenol.

Abstract

Screening for Inhibitor Bakteri for Pathogenic Bacteria in Groupers Culture in Banten and Lampung Waters. A research about screening of inhibitor bacteria for pathogenic bacteria in grouper culture was done during 2005 in Marine Microbiology Laboratory, Research Center for Oceanography LIPI. Inhibition test was done using paper disc method for three isolates of pathogenic bacteria in his research, they were: Vibrio harveyii, 9.2/Luka/TSA and 8.2/Luka/TSA. The result shows that from 39 isolates of inhibitor bacteria from Banten and 27 isolates of inhibitor bacteria from Lampung only two isolates showed inhibition effect to the growth of three isolates of pathogenic bacteria. found inhibit the three strains of pathogenic bacteria mentioned above. The two isolates of inhibitor bacteria were 9L/AL-4/KNG/BLC/BOKN/BJN and 5L/AL-4/KNG/BJN, which were isolated from Bojonegara, Banten.

Abstract

The Extention of MFCC Technique from 1D to 2D as Feature Extractor for Speaker Identification System Using HMM. In this paper, we introduce an extension of Mel-Frequency Cepstrum Coefficients (1D-MFCC) methodology to bispectrum data, referred to as 2D-MFCC, for feature extraction. 2D-MFCC is based on 2D bispectrum data rather than 1D spectrum vector yielded by Fourier transform, so the filter in 1D-MFCC must be extend to 2D filter and using 2D cosine transform to get the mel-cepstrum coefficients from the filtered bispectrum values. Based on 2D-MFCC, we develop a speaker recognition system with Hidden Markov Model (HMM) as classifier. The experimental results show that the recognition rate is around 88%, 92% and 99% for 20, 40 and 60 data training, respectively

Abstract

Quality Improvement of Pineapple Juice using Filtration System of Dead-end Flow from Selulosa Asetate Membrane. The main idea of this research is determination of alternating food technology using acetate cellulose membrane. The Cellulose acetate membrane can be used to filter several solution like extract of pineapple. Filtration technique of dead-end flow system was used to improve the quality of pineapple extract. The filtration system was condition in a state of under pressure energy, gravity force and squealer velocity variation. Flux of membrane for all process treat to experience of degradation increasedly it time filtrasi. Assess got highest flux to process with squealer 22 cm/s and pressure equal to 1,021 x 105 Pascal. Assess obtained biggest rejeksi to process filtrasi without treating pressure and also squealer. Membrane which have been weared by process of filtrasi experience of event fouling. Result of screening with this filtration system show quality improvement, that is homogeneous mount, downhill turbidity, totalize dissolve solution (TPT), and the downhill viscosity. Assess prosentase of change of choiseness have got for the condensation yielded from process of filtration without treatment of emphasis and squealer. Others, at condensation yielded from treating experience of change assess pH which is not big. So that this condensation own best quality
