Abstract

This study is to find the role of historical setting of the Quran revelation in understanding Quran, which is traced through the cause of Quran revelation. The verses analyzed in this study are the verses of the law (legal verses) which have the special cause of revelation. Those verses of the law are read and interpreted by using three theory of the cause of revelation, those are the common word of the Quran text, the special cause of revelation, and maqāsid al-sharīa (purposes of sharia). The finding of this study asserts that the verses of the law which are read and interpreted by using maqāsid al-sharīa are more dynamic than using two other theories. Based on this finding, then any provision of the law which differ textually with the provision of the law existing in the Quran may it is a part of the Quran teaching based on the similarity of maqāsid al-sharīa.[Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peranan latar historis turunnya ayat dalam memahami Alquran, yang ditelusuri melalui sebab turunnya ayat.

Abstract

This article elaborated on the importance of religious character in anticipating the negative influences of modernization on religion in the millennial generation. Religious character is a character contained in the values of every religion adhered to by Indonesian people. Findings showed that religious character was significant in dealing with problems in the current millennial era. Social riots that were triggered from racist views and events of blasphemy can be overcome by promoting an inclusive, humanist and dialogical attitude. Every millennial generation in Indonesia must hold the values of the three attitudes and characters, especially in managing social, interreligious, ethnic, national and linguistic relations in order to create a peaceful life so that the goals of the country, namely welfare for every citizen regardless of religion, ethnicity, nation and race, can be achieved.[Artikel ini menguraikan tentang pentingnya karakter relijius dalam mengantisipasi pengaruh negatif  modernisasi  terhadap  agama  pada  generasi  milenial.

Abstract

This article is a study of the Ancak tradition in the Wedoroklurak village community of Candi District in Sidoarjo. The study conducted with the theory of Living Hadith. The results of the study concluded that the Ancak Tradition is an activity that arises out of gratitude to God for agricultural products harvested by the community. The thanks were then expressed in the form of alms-giving and sending prayers to the village’s founding figures. The activity was carried out at the grave of Mbah Nursinah Kik Graji Kendil Wesi as the leader of the six figures who opened the village at that time. The series of events began with Khatmil Qur’an, followed by spiritual sparks, prayers, and shared meals. Seeing from the perspective of the Hadith, motivational aspects supported by the Hadith associated with alms from the results of efforts, as narrated by al-Darimi, al- Nasa’i, Muslims, al-Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah and al-Bukhari. From the form of its activities, the Ancak tradition can return to the general nature of the propositions relating to the virtue of reading the Qur’an, graves pilgrimage, praying for ancestors, and blessings to eat together. Judging from the series of traditional activities, it seems that nothing violates religious law, so the claims of local people who call Ancak as a religious tradition can be accepted. Its sustainability needs to be maintained and preserved as local wisdom that can foster harmony and the spirit of cooperation, also to instill the value of religiosity that is rooted in society, especially the value of gratitude and alms-giving.[Artikel ini adalah studi tentang tradisi Ancak di komunitas desa Wedoroklurak, Kabupaten Candi, Sidoarjo.

Abstract

Modern society tends to be techno-centric. Technology removes geographical distance and other physical restrictions in communication. Therefore, this matter must be responded by the preachers to reach the "e-society" mad'u with the world without limits. This has become a challenge as well as an opportunity for the da'is, and now they must be ICT literate. Ironically, the phenomenon of freedom of expression leads to acts of radicalism both in cyberspace and the real world that threaten the social integration of the world community. Here is the importance, how can techno-da'is influence e-society so that in theirexpression theystill uphold Islamic values that prioritize security, peace, safety, happiness and harmony among humans as described in the Qur’an. The strategies of "Normative Integration" revealed from the Quran consist of several phases, namely: accommodation, cooperation, coordination, assimilation, progressiveness and submissive-repentance.[Masyarakat modern cenderung teknosentris. Hal ini menjadi tantangan sekaligus peluang bari para da’i, da’i kini harus melek ICT.

The method used to uncover the forms and effects of violence on women in this novel is descriptive qualitative. The data displayed are words, phrases, sentences, and discourses that contain elements of violence against women. Applying the style of radical feminism in analyzing the data, this research shows that, first, the forms of violence against the main character are physical, psychological and sexual violence; second, the effects of violence experienced by the main character are physical injury, psychological disorders, and behavioral disorders. Thus, it concludes that repeated violence against women may result in prolonged suffering and is not acceptable to women both physically and mentally.

Abstract

The implementation of Pancasila remains a home work for all children of Indonesia. Althought has become the basis of state, Pancasila has encountered various obstacles both from the outside and the inside. This fact makes all components of the nation try to think in providing the concepts, strategies and concrete steps to place Pancasila as the living values that lead to a movement and can even bring this nation into desirable future. These efforts include the studies on the values of Pancasila from various perspectives, including that of perennial philosophy’s frame. Based on this perspective, Pancasila for the Indonesian people is actually the scientia sacra (sacred science) and kalimatun sawa (common sentences), a sacred knowledge, basic principle, and a common commitment that even existed long before the independence of Indonesia. Thus, the re-actualization of Pancasila means re-practicing its values as it has been implanted deep in the heart of this nation with a new perspective, namely that Pancasila is not merely an ideology of the state and nation, but more than that, it is actually the ontological inevitability at the heart of every human being in the Indonesian Archipelago.

Abstract

The development of online media has long played big roles in the spreading of intolerance and radicalism, in some levels, the online media is also used as a media to spread propaganda and to conduct online recruitment. Data compiled by Gabriel Weimann shows that radical groups use online media seriously to spread their wings in influencing and asking people to joint their movement. In 1998, radical-terrorist groups only had 12 sites, while in 2003 they had 2.650 sites. The number increased so high in 2014 where these groups are known to have more than 9.800 sites. The shifting place, from offline to online, used by radical groups to conduct their activities impacts to the targets they aim; online radicalism targets youth to become ‘jihadis’. A national survey conducted by Wahid Foundation on potency of intolerance and radicalism in Rohis (an after-school program focused on Islamic spirituality) shows this fact; 33% Rohis put terrorist suspect like Amrozi, Imam Samudra, Abu Bakar Ba’asyir, and Bahrun Na’im as the living example of Muslim practicing the real jihad. 37% believes that Osama bin Laden died syahid, 6% of them even support international terrorist group, ISIS. The article is designed to analyze how radical groups use online media to radicalize youth, as well as supporting factors surrounding the live of youth, especially in big cities of Indonesia.

The problem is, what is meant by religious moderation and how to do the deradicalization of religious moderation based harmony in Indonesia. This research used a qualitative method with content analysis techniques (content analysis), which examines and analyzes a number of literature (Library Research) related to the subject matter. Religious moderation is very significant in deradicalizing, namely; 1). Provide awareness of human nature to do good, the necessity of living side by side in the midst of heterogeneity, without cultural, religious and national boundaries. 2). A moderate attitude promotes hospitality and compassion, upholds human dignity, and lives a life based on religion, morals and universal ethics. 3). Religious people are aware of being citizens and at the same time becoming part of world citizens, respecting other truths. 4). Religious moderation is the most appropriate content and practice to prevent radicalism and preserve harmony in Indonesian earth, which is knitted with Pancasila values. Mental attitude that is moderate, fair, and balanced is the key to managing diversity. 5). With religious moderation, it will be able to manage plural and multicultural societies in the midst of the development of information technology in Indonesia. 6). Religious moderation becomes significant not only for the creation of constructive relations between religions externally, but it is also important internally to create harmony between various streams within one religion.

Abstract

AbstractReligious freedom is one type of human rights which caused major resistance to the universalism claim of human rights in Muslim countries. This article attempted to describe why that resistance arose and how Islam should reconceptualize religious freedom. The religious freedom issues are important to be explored in the context of contemporary Islamic studies because its value and scope tended to be limited in the Islamic conservatism discourse. One of the issues is the fallacy in categorizing the apostasy (riddah)—a non-derogable right—verdicted as a blasphemy in Islam. By reconceptualizing the Islamic meaning of religious freedom, this study applied document analysis to enrich the contemporary Islamist studies, especially to postulate the significant relationship between Islam and human rights and to argue that Islam actually legitimized religious freedom as one of the non-derogable rights.
