Abstract

Advancements in educational technology necessitate a transformation in higher education instructional strategies, particularly for science-based courses such as Astronomy. Research from 2024 indicates that the Stellarium application significantly enhances students' conceptual understanding in Astronomy. However, the use of this technology has not yet been systematically integrated into active learning models like Project-Based Learning (PjBL). Therefore, this study aims to develop and implement a Stellarium-based PjBL model to improve the astronomy literacy and learning autonomy of Physics Education students. This research employed a quantitative method with a pre-experimental design using a one-group pretest-posttest design. The subjects of this study were 30 students. The instrument used was a learning outcome test consisting of pretest and posttest. The results showed that the average pretest score was 52.27 and increased to 81.17 in the posttest, with an improvement of 28.90 points. The hypothesis test using a paired sample t-test showed a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores. The N-Gain value of 0.61 was categorized as moderate, indicating that the learning model was sufficiently effective in improving learning outcomes. In addition, the effect size value of 1.45 was categorized as large, indicating a strong effect of the learning model. Therefore, it can be concluded that the implementation of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model is effective in improving students' learning outcomes in astronomy material.

Abstract

The urgency of this research is to develop higher education learning technology by future needs, especially to achieve Indonesia Gold 2045 and the implementation of IKU/MBKM, by integrating culture, as advanced countries do not forget their ancestors. One of the cultures that need to be introduced and preserved by the younger generation. The research method used is the Research and Development approach with the ADDIE (Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) model, with a sample of 35 Indonesian Language Education Study Program students focusing on reading literacy skills and cognitive aspects. The research instrument used is a Likert scale questionnaire to analyze the difficulties faced by students in achieving reading literacy skills. The results indicate that reading literacy, a weakness factor for students, is influenced by a factor named Reading Ease and a factor named Reading Activity Evaluation. Thus, it is necessary to implement learning activities that align with students' needs in developing individual capabilities for the future, specifically by developing a multimedia constructivist learning model.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the ethnomathematics-based learning problem model to see the creative thinking and problem-solving abilities of students of SMP Negeri 23 Medan on the material of flat shapes. The number of samples in this study were 25 students of grade IX of SMP Negeri 23 Medan, Binjai Village, Medan Denai District, Medan City, North Sumatra Province. This study is an experimental study with the Group Pretest-postest design. The subjects in this study were students of grade IX of SMP Negeri 23 Medan, Binjai Village, Medan Denai District, Medan City, North Sumatra Province. Data collection used ethnomathematics creative thinking ability tests in improving problem-solving abilities. The data analysis technique used in this study was the paired t-test. The results of this study are 1) the results of the paired sample t-test show the value of t count < t table or 7.575 < 2.19302 then H0 is rejected which means that students' creative thinking abilities through the ethnomathematics Problem Based Learning model in improving Problem Solving and Creative Thinking Ability on flat shape material, 2) the results of the average increase test (N-gain) show that grade IX students of SMP Negeri 23, namely 56.25, are included in the medium category. The average pretest of students is 83.42 and the average posttest is 89.05. So it can be concluded that there is an increase in creative thinking abilities through the ethnomathematics problem based learning model in improving Problem Solving Ability on flat shape material at SMP Negeri 23 Medan, Binjai Village, Medan Denai District, Medan City, North Sumatra Provinc

Abstract

The integration of digital technology and higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) has become increasingly important in English language education, particularly in developing university students’ communicative competence and 21st-century skills. This study examined the use of vlog-based learning integrated with HOTS-oriented activities in university English speaking instruction. The study employed a comparative pretest–posttest classroom design supported by descriptive qualitative data. The participants were students enrolled in the English Education Study Program at Universitas Muslim Nusantara Al Washliyah, Medan, Indonesia. Data were collected through speaking assessments, classroom observations, documentation, and student responses to the learning activities. The quantitative data were analyzed descriptively by comparing students’ learning gains between the vlog-and-HOTS group and the conventional-learning group. The reported statistical analysis indicated a higher mean gain score for the vlog-and-HOTS group (M = 0.5713) than for the conventional group (M = 0.4380). The statistical output reported in the research documentation also indicated a significant difference between the groups (F = 35.349, p < .001). Qualitative findings suggested that vlog-based activities provided students with opportunities to research topics, discuss ideas, prepare scripts, practice speaking, produce digital content, collaborate with peers, and reflect on their performance. Overall, the findings suggest that integrating vlogging with HOTS-oriented learning activities can provide a meaningful learning environment for developing university students’ English speaking performance and supporting 21st-century competencies. Since the original SPSS dataset was unavailable for reanalysis, the statistical findings are reported based on the aggregated results available in the research documentation.
