JOURNAL BASTRA (Language and Literature) is a publicly accessible journal published by the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Halu Oleo University. This journal is published four times a year, every January, April, July, and October. This journal contains the results of research (field or literature studies), theoretical studies, and critical studies covering several areas of study as follows. Indonesian language education includes studies on linguistic learning, phonology learning, morphology learning, syntax learning, semantic learning, pragmatics learning, discourse learning, sociolinguistic learning, and psycholinguistic learning. Indonesian literature education includes studies on poetry learning, fiction prose learning, and drama and film learning. Indonesian, includes studies on linguistics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, discourse, sociolinguistics, and psycholinguistics. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis naskah drama “Mamas” karya Bode Riswandi melalui pendekatan sosiologi sastra, dengan fokus pada sosiologi pengarang, sosiologi karya sastra, sosiologi pembaca serta kritik sosial yang terkandung di dalamnya. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data melalui teknik simak dan catat. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini adalah naskah drama “Mamas” karya Bode Riswandi. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa "Mamas" mencerminkan realitas sosial yang kompleks, ketika birokrasi digambarkan sebagai institusi yang korup dan tidak efisien, serta lebih mementingkan kepentingan individu daripada kesejahteraan masyarakat. Drama ini juga menyoroti bagaimana sistem hukum sering kali gagal dalam menyelesaikan konflik sosial, dengan hakim yang menyerah pada situasi yang tidak dapat diselesaikan. Selain itu, karakter pengacara dalam naskah menunjukkan bahwa keadilan sering kali dipandang sebagai ladang bisnis, bukan sebagai prioritas. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa "Mamas" bukan hanya sekadar hiburan, tetapi juga alat kritik sosial yang menggugah kesadaran pembaca terhadap ketimpangan yang ada dalam masyarakat.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan bahan ajar puisi rakyat yang dibantu dengan aplikasi pengedit video Vlog Now untuk siswa kelas VII SMP. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian pengembangan (Research and Development/R&D) dengan menggunakan model penelitian Borg and Gall yang tahapannya telah disederhanakan agar sesuai dengan kebutuhan dan keterbatasan penelitian ini. Adapun tahapan yang dilakukan dalam penelitian ini meliputi: a) potensi dan masalah, b) pengumpulan data, c) desain produk, d) validasi produk, dan e) revisi produk. Subjek dalam penelitian pengembangan ini adalah validator ahli materi, validator ahli media, dan guru mata pelajaran Bahasa Indonesia di UPT SMP Negeri 37 Medan. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah observasi, wawancara, dan penyebaran angket kepada siswa untuk mengetahui kebutuhan belajar siswa. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa produk yang dikembangkan, yaitu bahan ajar puisi rakyat berbasis video yang dibantu oleh aplikasi Vlog Now, termasuk dalam kualifikasi sangat layak dengan nilai dari validator materi sebesar 75%, nilai dari validator media sebesar 100%, serta penilaian dari guru mata pelajaran sebesar 78%. Nilai rata-rata keseluruhan yang diperoleh adalah 84,3%. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa produk dalam penelitian ini sangat layak digunakan oleh guru dan siswa dalam proses pembelajaran.

Abstract

Drama is a type of literary work that has a distinctive characteristic, namely combining literary elements and performing arts. This study analyzed the drama "Mastodon and Condor" written by W.S. Rendra using the genetic structuralism approach introduced by Lucien Goldmann. This approach was chosen because it is suitable to show how this drama depicts humanitarian issues, the author's views, and social groups in the context of Indonesia during the New Order period. This analysis uses key concepts from Lucien Goldmann's theory of genetic structuralism, with a focus on the fact of humanity, the author's worldview, and the collective group. The results of the study show that this drama not only features dramatic conflict, but also provides philosophical, moral, and spiritual reflections on the fate of humans in an oppressive system. This drama also reflects the socio-historical dynamics of society and becomes a means of criticism that arouses collective consciousness.

Abstract

Kajian psikologi sastra dalam sebuah karya sastra bertujuan untuk memahami perilaku tokoh-tokohnya, khususnya tokoh utama, dalam naskah drama Mastodon dan Burung Kondor karya W.S. Rendra. Drama ini mengisahkan tentang Mastodon sebagai simbol dari pemerintahan yang serakah dan korup yang menindas rakyatnya, sementara Burung Kondor melambangkan masyarakat yang tertindas dan hidup dalam kemiskinan akibat keserakahan pemerintah. Secara keseluruhan, naskah ini menjadi kritik terhadap ketimpangan sosial, keserakahan para penguasa, serta penderitaan rakyat yang menjadi korban dari sistem pemerintahan yang tidak adil. Konflik batin merupakan konflik yang dialami seseorang dalam dirinya sendiri dan sering disebut sebagai pergulatan internal individu. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif. Data diperoleh langsung oleh peneliti dari naskah drama, dan peneliti juga pernah terlibat dalam pementasan drama tersebut dengan memerankan salah satu tokohnya. Penelitian ini menerapkan analisis psikologi sastra.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis klausa dalam kalimat majemuk pada novel Layar Terkembang karya St. Alisjahbana. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif. Metode deskriptif digunakan untuk menyajikan data berdasarkan fakta yang sebenarnya sebagaimana ditemukan dalam novel Layar Terkembang karya St. Alisjahbana. Teknik yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah analisis klausa dalam kalimat majemuk. Hal ini dilakukan dengan cara membaca novel Layar Terkembang, kemudian dianalisis oleh peneliti terkait klausa dalam kalimat majemuk, khususnya pada Bab 2 novel tersebut. Berdasarkan temuan penelitian, terdapat 4 klausa bebas dan 2 klausa terikat dalam kalimat majemuk setara. Selain itu, terdapat 6 klausa terikat dan tidak ditemukan klausa bebas dalam kalimat majemuk bertingkat. Dengan demikian, jumlah total klausa bebas adalah 4 dan jumlah total klausa terikat adalah 8, sebagaimana ditemukan dalam kalimat majemuk pada novel Layar Terkembang karya St. Alisjahbana.

Abstract

This study aims to (1) Analyze argumentative writing skills without using the Point Counter Point (PCP) learning model assisted by Instagram social media for class XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Kisaran, (2) Analyze argumentative text writing skills using the Point Counter Point (PCP) learning model assisted by Instagram social media for class XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Kisaran, (3) Analyze the effect of using the Point Counter Point (PCP) learning model assisted by social media on writing argumentative texts for class XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Kisaran. This study involved all 357 class XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Kisaran, with a sample of 72 people divided into two classes: the control class (36 people) and the experimental class (36 people). The assessment instruments used included the introduction, the content (argument body), the closing, denotative sentences, verbs, adverbs, and conjunctions. The experimental method used was a two-group post-test design with a quantitative approach, and used data analysis techniques such as analysis requirements tests, normality tests, homogeneity tests, and hypothesis tests. The results of the study showed that the skill of writing argumentative texts using the Point Counter Point (PCP) learning model assisted by Instagram social media had a significant impact, as evidenced by the tcount value > ttable, namely 7.5703 > 2.03224, indicating a significant influence on the skill of writing argumentative texts of class XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Kisaran.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the syntactic functions, grammatical categories, and semantic roles in the descriptive text titled “Ruang Tamuku yang Mungil” published on the news website detik.com. The study employs a qualitative descriptive method, with data collected through literature review and document analysis. The data were analyzed by identifying syntactic functions (subject, predicate, object, complement, and adverbial), grammatical categories (nominal phrase, verbal phrase, adjectival phrase, and prepositional phrase), and the semantic roles that emerge in the sentences.The findings indicate that from the fourteen sentences analyzed, there are variations in sentence structures such as P–S–K, S–P–Pel, S–P–O, K–P–S, and more complex structures like P–S–K–Pel and compound sentences containing clauses in the forms of S–P–O and S–P–K. Subjects in the sentences are generally in the form of nominal phrases (FN), while predicates consist of verbs (V), verbal phrases (FV), and adjectival phrases (FAdj), functioning to express existence, condition, or action. Objects and complements also tend to appear as FN or FAdj, and serve semantic functions such as agent, attribute, location, instrument, or existence. These findings show that the descriptive text presents relatively varied but patterned sentence structures, with a dominance of S–P–Pel and P–S–K. Semantically, the sentences in the text emphasize functions of existence, identification, and descriptive-attributive meaning, which reinforce the visual image of the living room as the object of description.The diversity of sentence structures, categories, and functions enriches insights, especially the repertoire of syntax in Indonesian

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of self-efficacy as a determinant of success in the field of psycholinguistics. Self-efficacy, which refers to an individual's belief in their ability to complete a particular task, has a significant impact on the process of language acquisition, comprehension, and production. Through a literature study method by analyzing several relevant scientific articles from various leading national journals, this study identified that self-efficacy has a positive effect on language ability, language learning motivation, and communication performance. The results of the study indicate that individuals with high levels of self-efficacy tend to have more effective language learning strategies, resilience in facing linguistic difficulties, and better achievement in language tasks. These findings underline the importance of developing self-efficacy in the context of language learning and psycholinguistic interventions, and provide practical implications for educators, psychologists, and linguists in designing programs that facilitate the improvement of linguistic abilities.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze endocentric and exocentric phrases contained in the lyrics of the song "Lesung Pipi" created by Raim Laode. Phrases as grammatical units consisting of two or more words that do not exceed the function limits of clause elements are an important aspect in the study of syntax. The research method used is a qualitative descriptive method with document analysis techniques. The results of the study show that in the lyrics of the song "Lesung Pipi" two types of phrases were found, namely endocentric phrases and exocentric phrases. The endocentric phrases found consist of nominal endocentric phrases, verbal endocentric phrases, adverbial endocentric phrases, and adjectival endocentric phrases. The distribution of endocentric phrases in the song lyrics is more dominant compared to exocentric phrases. This study provides an overview of the syntactic structure used in contemporary Indonesian popular songs and how the choice of phrase structure can affect the aesthetics and message delivery in a song.

Abstract

Language serves as a fundamental tool for expressing ideas and emotions in daily life. With the progression of globalization and technological innovation, code-mixing has become increasingly prevalent, particularly among Generation Z. This study aims to examine the influence of code-mixing on the daily communication expressions of Generation Z. A qualitative research method was applied, utilizing content analysis based on questionnaire data collected from young respondents. The results revealed that many Generation Z individuals actively incorporate code-mixing into their oral and written communication, especially through social media platforms. In formal settings such as presentations and seminars, some respondents indicated a tendency to use code-mixing, while others preferred maintaining linguistic formality. Several participants viewed code-mixing as an important means of expressing themselves more flexibly, whereas others considered it unnecessary in everyday communication. These findings suggest that code-mixing has become an integral part of Generation Z’s linguistic identity, though there remains an awareness of the need to uphold linguistic politeness and preserve the national language. This study emphasizes the importance of balancing global adaptation with the preservation of local cultural values in language use.
