Jurnal Bastra (Bahasa dan Sastra)
JOURNAL BASTRA (Language and Literature) is a publicly accessible journal published by the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Halu Oleo University. This journal is published four times a year, every January, April, July, and October. This journal contains the results of research (field or literature studies), theoretical studies, and critical studies covering several areas of study as follows. Indonesian language education includes studies on linguistic learning, phonology learning, morphology learning, syntax learning, semantic learning, pragmatics learning, discourse learning, sociolinguistic learning, and psycholinguistic learning. Indonesian literature education includes studies on poetry learning, fiction prose learning, and drama and film learning. Indonesian, includes studies on linguistics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, discourse, sociolinguistics, and psycholinguistics. Indonesian literature includes studies on poetry, prose fiction, drama, and film with a structural approach, stylistics, semiotics, sociology of literature, psychology of literature, psychoanalysis, literary ecology, deconstruction, philology, phenomenology, feminism, literary reception, and literary anthropology.

This research examines directive speech acts in a radio drama script titled "Kejlomprong Kejining Jaman". The study analyzes directive speech acts within the framework of speech act theory using a pragmatic approach. The data used in this research consists of utterances between characters that contain directive statements. In the radio drama script "Kejlomprong Kejining Jaman," directive speech acts are expressed using both direct and indirect strategies. Direct strategies involve explicit commands, such as imperative sentences, invitations, and prohibitions. Indirect strategies, on the other hand, convey commands implicitly through statements, declarations of necessity, and questions. Direct speech acts often violate politeness principles and are coercive, leading to a lack of ambiguity and indicating a power imbalance between the speakers. Indirect strategies, however, create ambiguity to maintain politeness and encourage the interlocutor to comply willingly. The analysis results are presented in a descriptive format. This descriptive presentation aims to systematically describe and explain the phenomenon of directive utterances in the dialogue between characters.

The development of the science is quickly spread in all branches of study. One of those studies is a language study. Linguistic is a study of language which are many studies are studied. Pragmatic is branch of Linguistic study that learns about study in meaning. Context is very important in pragmatic study; a language cannot only interpret by its structure but also by its context in order to get the meaning. Pragmatic also learns various studies; the research uses a pragmatic approach in order to analyze the data from the research in the form of refusal of request in speech act. The research is focused on the implementation refusal of request that happened in refusing of love by women. The study is using some theories from pragmatic expert such as Levinson (1983), Searle (1985) and Yule (1996;2022) with the aim to get understanding about speech act especially in refusals form. Furthermore, the strategies of refusal are divided into two part there are direct and indirect. Discourse completion task (DCT) is the method that used by the researcher to collect the data quickly and easily. The steps of collecting the data are the researcher firstly is distributing the questionnaires to 50 respondents’ women in range of age 18-25 years old in Surakarta City, secondly the researcher is analyzing the data, and lastly the researcher is presenting the data. The result of the research is the used of indirect refusal strategy is used a lot than direct strategy. The indirect strategy is founded by 39 data consists of 25 data indirect strategy with giving alternative and 14 data indirect strategy with giving reason. Whereas, the direct strategy is founded by 11 data consist of direct negative willingness with 6 data, direct performative with 4 data, and direct negative flat with one data. It concluded that the women respondents in Surakarta city more comfortable in conveying their rejection of love. Keywords: Pragmatic; Speech Act; Refusal of Requests

Translating a book can help many people access its content in a language they understand. However, translation often involves challenges, particularly with sentences that are not easily comprehensible to readers. This is especially true for poetry, which frequently employs figurative language and metaphors. In this case, the author applies Newmark's translation methods to analyze the poetry in the book Fihi Ma Fihi by Jalaluddin Rumi, which has been translated from Arabic into Indonesian by Anwar Holid. The research method used in this study is descriptive qualitative, focusing on the verses of poetry within the book. Translators often rely on various translation theories, which sometimes result in ambiguous diction. The translator determines the translation method based on the context of the poetry and its linguistic nuances. Anwar Holid's translation incorporates idiomatic expressions and styles of human communication, influencing both the conveyed meaning and the reader's understanding. This study examines the shifts in meaning at a lexical level and the translator's choices in rendering Rumi's poetry. Eleven stanzas are analyzed in terms of their translations and compared to their lexical meanings. Each word carries a distinct meaning and translation that aligns with the poetic verses written by Jalaluddin Rumi.

This research aims to identify and describe the categorization of village names and ecological wisdom in the toponymy of villages in Sei Kepayang Barat Kabupaten Asahan. This study uses the theory of toponymic aspects by Sudaryat and the theory of ecological wisdom. The research employs a qualitative descriptive method with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, listening and note-taking, and recording. The findings of this research are as follows: 1) The village names in Sei Kepayang Barat Kabupaten Asahan can be categorized based on the aspects of manifestation and culture; 2) Based on the aspect of manifestation, these village names can be divided into two categories, namely water-based (hydrological) and natural environment backgrounds, especially plants. Villages with names originating from a water-based background include Sei Lendir Village. Meanwhile, villages whose names originate from both water-based and natural environment backgrounds include Sei Jawi-Jawi, Sei Kepayang Kiri, Sei Nangka, Sei Serindan, and Sei Tualang Pandau Villages; 3) Based on the cultural aspect, the village names in Sei Kepayang Barat can be divided into two categories, namely based on the language used and myths or legends. Based on the language used, these village names originate from the Malay and Indonesian languages. Meanwhile, village names linked to myths or legends include Sei Lendir and Sei Serindan Villages; and 4) The embodiment of ecological wisdom in the toponymy of villages in Sei Kepayang Barat is the application of the principle of respect for nature. This article discusses efforts to improve student character in the technological era through the novels “Ceros and Batozar” as learning media. In an educational context that is increasingly influenced by technological advances, it is important to apply character values in learning activities. The novel was chosen as an effective means of exploring relevant character values, such as honesty, intelligence, toughness, and caring. These values are very important for students' personal development in facing the challenges of the times. Through the implementation of learning methods such as group discussions, problem-based learning (PBL), and project-based learning (PjBL), students are invited to analyze and discuss these values and relate them to the social problems around them. In this way, it is hoped that students will not only improve their communication skills and creativity, but also strengthen the internalization of character values that are important in life. The main aim of this article is to identify the role of the “Ceros and Batozar” novels in improving students' personality characteristics by highlighting the values contained in the narrative, as well as how these values can be internalized by readers. The research was conducted using a qualitative approach with data analysis techniques. Data were analyzed using thematic techniques which allowed researchers to identify, analyze and discuss themes related to the values of the characters in the novel. It is hoped that this article can provide understanding to educators in developing effective learning strategies to strengthen students personalities in the digital era, as well as strengthening value and character-based learning that is relevant to current technological developments.

Teaching materials are learning resources used during learning, making it easier to convey lesson material information. Teaching materials are not only limited to printed books, but some are electronic based. One of the electronic-based teaching materials that can be used is electronic books. Electronic books are teaching materials that can meet students' needs for drama material. So it is necessary to develop electronic books on drama material using book creators in class XI high school. This research aims to (1) The process of developing drama teaching materials with the help of book creators, (2) The form of drama teaching materials with the help of book creator media. The development model used is the ADDIE model. With techniques and data collection from interviews with teachers in the field of study, observation, documentation and questionnaires. Results of questionnaire data from media experts and material experts. Development in this research uses the ADDIE model which has three stages, namely analysis, design, development. The results of this research show that in the media expert assessment, they received a percentage score of 96.42% in the "Very Appropriate" category. In the material expert assessment, the percentage score was 82.35% in the "Very Eligible" category. So, from the results of the research that has been carried out, it can be concluded that the drama teaching materials assisted by book creator media that have been developed are valid and very suitable for use as supporting learning media for drama texts assisted by book creator media.

This research was conducted to examine the lexical aspects and grammatical aspects of the song Satu Bulan sung by Bernadya using semantic studies. Lexical meaning and grammatical meaning are part of semantic studies which are generally found in a writing including song lyrics. Repetition and antonymy were found in the lexical aspect. Reference, substitution, detachment and conjunction in grammatical aspects.

This study aims to describe the needs of the characters in the novel Seperti Hujan yang Jatuh Ke Bumi by Boy Candra based on the perspective of Abraham Maslow's humanistic psychology. The type of research used is library research and the method used is a qualitative descriptive method. In this study, the data used are words, sentences, complete paragraphs and quotations that describe the needs of the characters in the novel Seperti Hujan yang Jatuh Ke Bumi by Boy Candra, using Abraham Maslow's humanistic psychology theory. The data collection technique in this study is the analytical intensive reading technique and the note-taking technique. The data analysis technique used is to focus on revealing and understanding more deeply about humanistic psychology involving the characters of the characters. The results of the study show that the four main characters in the novel Seperti Hujan yang Jatuh Ke Bumi, namely Kevin, Nara, Juned and Tiara have needs that can be divided into two categories, namely physiological needs and psychological needs. According to Maslow, these needs are the basis of human behavior that drives individuals to achieve personal goals and happiness. This study provides insight into the relationship between character psychology in literary works and Maslow's theory of needs, as well as its relevance in literary learning.

This study discusses the application of clue-based word association methods in the learning of hijaiyah letters for early childhood, specifically ages 4-5 years. The purpose of the research is to explore the influence of word-based clues on children's memory in recognizing hijaiyah letters and to identify the psycholinguistic factors that affect the success of the learning process. The research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with observational techniques at a tutoring center for learning hijaiyah letters. The research results show that the use of clues based on familiar words, such as "bakso" for the letter ص (sho) and "soto" for the letter ط (tho), significantly enhances children's memory. Older children (5 years old) tend to understand letters more quickly compared to 4-year-olds, indicating the influence of cognitive development on learning. However, certain less familiar letters, such as ض (do), are still difficult for some children to remember. This finding highlights the importance of the relevance of clues to the child's experience for effective learning.
