Jurnal Bastra (Bahasa dan Sastra)
JOURNAL BASTRA (Language and Literature) is a publicly accessible journal published by the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Halu Oleo University. This journal is published four times a year, every January, April, July, and October. This journal contains the results of research (field or literature studies), theoretical studies, and critical studies covering several areas of study as follows. Indonesian language education includes studies on linguistic learning, phonology learning, morphology learning, syntax learning, semantic learning, pragmatics learning, discourse learning, sociolinguistic learning, and psycholinguistic learning. Indonesian literature education includes studies on poetry learning, fiction prose learning, and drama and film learning. Indonesian, includes studies on linguistics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, discourse, sociolinguistics, and psycholinguistics. Indonesian literature includes studies on poetry, prose fiction, drama, and film with a structural approach, stylistics, semiotics, sociology of literature, psychology of literature, psychoanalysis, literary ecology, deconstruction, philology, phenomenology, feminism, literary reception, and literary anthropology.

The Merdeka Curriculum aims to give freedom to educational institutions and teachers in designing learning that suits the needs and characteristics of students. In addition, this curriculum also directs the development of student character and skills, not just centered on achieving test scores. So the Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology issued a decree to implement the independent curriculum which is listed in the Decree of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia number 262 / M / 2022. Based on the implementation of the independent curriculum that has been running from 2022, there has not been much discussion about the suitability of the PSAJ in terms of the distribution of the cognitive domain. The research to be carried out uses a type of qualitative research with a descriptive approach. The research will be carried out by determining the object of research on purpose, so the technique used is Purposive Sampling. The suitability of PSAJ to the distribution of cognitive domains when viewed from the percentage of each school, S01 has a distribution of Low Order Thinking Skills (LOTS), the percentage in S02 shows the assessment of PSAJ which has a level of High Order Thinking Skills (HOTS), while in S03, represents the level of test items Middle Thinking Skills (MOTS) and High Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). The knowledge dimension that is often presented is the conceptual dimension, which indicates that the questions attempt to improve learners' conceptual understanding. The thing that needs to be considered in making questions is of course not to be separated from the AKM and the need for the suitability of the level of thinking according to the ability of students.

This study examines the effectiveness of sentences in online news texts published by Antaranews.com in the March 2025 edition through a syntactic analysis approach. The main focus of the study is to analyze how the syntactic structure of sentences affects the clarity and accuracy of information delivery in news texts. The background of this study is based on the widespread use of long and complicated sentences in online news that can hinder readers' understanding. The purpose of this study is to find ineffective sentence forms and to formulate the characteristics of syntactic structures that are able to convey information clearly and communicatively. The method used is qualitative descriptive with content analysis techniques on 20 news texts from various fields, namely politics, economics, social, and culture. The results of the analysis show that although most sentences use complex compound structures, not all of them are able to convey messages effectively. Some of the problems found include inconsistencies in the relationship between parts of the sentence, structural ambiguity, and excessive use of elements. These findings indicate the importance of constructing sentences that are denser, more straightforward, and easier to understand in writing online news.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji relasi makna dalam lirik lagu karya Rony Parulian melalui pendekatan semantik. Analisis difokuskan pada tiga jenis relasi makna, yaitu sinonimi, antonimi, dan hiponimi, yang terdapat dalam tiga lagu: Angin Rindu, Tak Ada Ujungnya, dan Sampai Di Sini. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yakni metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan tahapan reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa lirik lagu-lagu tersebut mengandung variasi relasi makna yang memperkaya ekspresi bahasa dan emosi dalam lagu. Sinonimi ditemukan sebanyak sepuluh data, antonimi sebanyak tujuh data, dan hiponimi sebanyak dua data. Temuan ini membuktikan bahwa penggunaan relasi makna dalam lirik lagu memiliki peran penting dalam menciptakan keindahan, kedalaman makna, dan kekuatan ekspresi dalam karya musik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kesalahan fonologi pada kanal YouTube Yuna Nuna. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik menyimak. Data diambil dari video berjudul “Orang Korea Berebut Jurusan Bahasa Indonesia”. Proses analisis data meliputi reduksi data, penyajian, dan perumusan simpulan. Hasil temuan menunjukkan tiga jenis kesalahan berupa penghilangan, perubahan, dan penambahan fonem. Kesalahan terjadi akibat interferensi bahasa Korea dan kurangnya pemahaman fonologi bahasa Indonesia. Penelitian ini dapat menjadi landasan bagi pengembangan materi fonologi BIPA ke depannya serta pemanfaatan media digital dalam pembelajaran.

This study aims to analyze the language and spelling feasibility of Chapter V in the 2021 Indonesian language textbook for second-grade elementary school students, themed “Making Friends in Diversity.” Using a qualitative descriptive method with content analysis and linguistic error analysis, the study evaluates the textbook's content alignment with learning objectives, character education, and linguistic accuracy. Data were collected through document review, observation sheets, student journals, and guided discussion outcomes. The findings indicate that the chapter content appropriately integrates character values such as empathy, tolerance, and self-confidence through contextual fables and active learning activities. However, several issues were identified in linguistic structure, including the use of non-standard words like “minder,” incomplete or ambiguous sentence constructions, and punctuation errors in direct speech. Visually, the book employs child-friendly design and illustrations, although some graphics lack relevance to the narrative. The transition between narrative and exercises is often abrupt, reducing instructional coherence. Despite meeting most feasibility indicators, improvements are needed in language structure and narrative cohesion to enhance the effectiveness of the book as a learning medium. The study recommends revising ambiguous sentences, ensuring accurate spelling and punctuation, and aligning illustrations with textual content. Strengthening both linguistic and visual elements can significantly contribute to fostering proper language habits and instilling positive character traits in early-grade learners.

This research analyzes and describes the intimate and formal language styles used in the fifth scene of the drama script Dewi Anjani, focusing on the interactions between Raden Nuna Putra Janjak, Dewi Anjani, and Datu Tuan. Drawing on Martin Joos's (1967) language style theory, this qualitative study employs a coding technique to identify and interpret relevant dialogues. The analysis of 22 key data points reveals that language style serves not only as a communicative tool but also as a powerful indicator of evolving character relationships. Initially, formal language dominates, signifying the absence of personal ties, hostility, and the assertion of authority. However, a significant shift to an intimate style occurs, reflecting a transformation from conflict to reconciliation and familial recognition. This transition enriches the dramatic meaning and narrative, illustrating how stylistic choices contribute to character development and the overall dramatic arc. The findings offer a deeper analytical framework for understanding the interplay of intimate and formal language in literary works and contribute to the theories on the function and impact of stylistic choices in dramatic narrative.

This study aims to describe the use of personal deixis in the documentary film Dirty Vote and its implementation in Indonesian language learning for Grade XI high school students through a teaching module on short story writing. This research employed a qualitative method. The data were collected using observation techniques, including tapping, non-participatory observation, and note-taking. The data were derived from the utterances of Bivitri Susanti, Zainal Arifin Mochtar, and Feri Amsari in the documentary Dirty Vote directed by Dandhy Dwi Laksono. A total of 134 instances of personal deixis were identified, consisting of: (1) 29 first-person singular; (2) 71 first-person plural; (3) 8 second-person singular; (4) 12 third-person singular; and (5) 14 third-person plural deixis. Among these, the first-person plural deixis we appeared most frequently. Its use indicates inclusivity, in which the speaker involves the second person (the audience) in the conversation. In this study, the use of we serves as a rhetorical strategy by Bivitri, Zainal, and Feri to make the audience feel involved and become part of the film.

This study aimed to investigate two key aspects: 1) the influence of the Steinberg Four Stages method, supported by Snake and Ladder media, on the initial reading ability of first-grade students at SDIT Al-Bina, and 2) whether the initial reading ability of these students improved more significantly with this method and media compared to those using the Syllable method. This research was prompted by the observation that first-grade students at SDIT Al-Bina needed to improve their initial reading skills. The Steinberg Four-Stage method, combined with Snake and Ladder media, was explored as a potential solution to this issue, with the overall goal of enhancing these students' initial reading abilities. The study employed a Quasi-Experiment design with a Nonequivalent Control Group. The sample consisted of first-grade students from SDIT Al-Bina, divided into two groups of 28 students each: an experimental class and a control class. The findings indicate: 1) The Steinberg Four Stages method, aided by Snake and Ladder media, influenced students' initial reading ability by 72.9%. 2) There was a greater improvement in the initial reading ability of students who used the Steinberg Four Stages method with Snake and Ladder media compared to those who used the Syllable method. This journal reviews "Emotion Representation in Tweets of X Sad-sad Community: A Psycholinguistic Study". The purpose of this study is to investigate the feelings expressed in the sad-sad community's Twitter tweets, which include both positive and negative values in their online social interactions. The topics covered and the setting of each article will determine this. By describing the data that already exists, a qualitative approach is employed. Techniques for gathering data were done in two steps: recording and listening. This study's tools included notebooks, cell phones, and laptops. The Miles, Huberman, and Saldana model was employed for data analysis. The findings demonstrated that researchers used the sad-sad community's Twitter tweets, which reflected all of the emotions that people experienced. The sad-sad community's Twitter tweets express a range of emotions, including hurt, sadness, disappointment, exhaustion, rage, and a sense of being undervalued. It can be seen that the interaction of X users with sad-sad tweets is a natural reaction of the body to something encountered.

This study aims to apply the demonstration method in learning to read poetry and improve the ability to read poetry of seventh grade students of Islamic Junior High School Donomulyo in the 2023/2024 academic year. Based on the results of observations, several obstacles were found in reading poetry, including lack of reading fluency, low interest in poetry, limited creativity of educators in choosing learning methods, weak student motivation, and difficulty in understanding proper poetry reading techniques. To overcome these problems, classroom action research (PTK) was implemented in two cycles with six meetings. The research stages included planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection. The research subjects consisted of 26 seventh grade students. This study found that the application of the demonstration method was able to improve students' ability to read poetry. This can be seen from the increase in the average with an initial score of 54.7% in cycle I (low category) to 86.4% in cycle II (good category). So it can be concluded that the demonstration method is effective in improving the ability to read poetry of seventh grade students of Islamic Junior High School Donomulyo.
