Abstract

This research aims to examine the meaning of the Jubilee Year 2025 as a pastoral foundation for catechists in encouraging the participation of the faithful in the life of the Church, particularly in the field of liturgy, in Saint Paul Parish Sendangguwo, Semarang. The Jubilee Year 2025, with the theme “Pilgrims of Hope,” is understood by the Church as a moment of grace for the renewal of faith, conversion, and the strengthening of the faithful’s involvement in ecclesial life. Pastoral realities show that the participation of the faithful in liturgical ministry is still relatively low, as indicated by passive attitudes, feelings of unworthiness, and limited understanding of the baptismal calling. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques consisting of document study, observation, in-depth interviews, and open-ended questionnaires. The results show that catechists interpret the Jubilee Year 2025 as a strategic pastoral opportunity to awaken the faith awareness of the faithful through catechesis, socialization, and the witness of life. The role of catechists as pastoral agents and examples of faith has a significant influence in increasing the active involvement of the faithful. This study contributes to strengthening pastoral catechetical ministry in the local parish, emphasizing that the authentic appreciation of moments of faith by catechists becomes a key factor in transforming the participation of the faithful in the life of the Church.

Abstract

Generation Z lives within a digital environment characterized by rapid information flows, limitless connectivity, and the dominance of social media in shaping identity. This reality gives rise to the phenomenon of Fear of Missing Out (FOMO), defined as anxiety experienced when individuals feel left behind from socially valued experiences. In the context of church life, FOMO not only affects psychological well-being but also diminishes the quality of spiritual growth among young people. This study aims to formulate a contemplative pastoral model as a church response in accompanying Generation Z experiencing FOMO-related pressures. The research employs a qualitative approach within the framework of practical theology, utilizing in-depth interviews with eight active young church participants in Manado, as well as a literature review. Data analysis was conducted thematically through stages of reduction, categorization, and theological interpretation. The findings reveal four main pillars of the contemplative pastoral model: (1) a culture of silence, (2) authentic personal accompaniment, (3) a non-competitive community, and (4) the formation of sustainable spiritual disciplines. This model is relevant as a pastoral approach to restoring the spiritual depth of Generation Z amid the pressures of digital culture.

Abstract

This paper discusses the Primacy of Saint Peter within the Catholic Church, specifically as the foundation for the Primacy of the Apostolic See of Rome and continuous apostolic leadership. Many question whether the Pope’s leadership truly originates from Christ or is merely a product of historical development. To address this, the study employs a literature review method with hermeneutic and historical approaches, examining Sacred Scripture, the writings of the Church Fathers, and documents from significant councils in Church history. The findings indicate that Saint Peter held a specific role granted directly by Jesus as the rock of the Church, the holder of the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven, and the shepherd of God’s people. This role is transmitted to the Bishops of Rome through apostolic succession, recognized by the early Church and affirmed in various councils, including Nicaea, Ephesus, and Chalcedon. Petrine primacy is not merely symbolic but is manifest in the pastoral life and ministry of the Pope to this day. In the modern Church context, this primacy remains essential for maintaining the unity of faith, serving as a moral voice for the world, and providing spiritual leadership amidst an increasingly complex society.

Abstract

The liturgy of the Catholic Church is present and rooted in local culture. This is possible because the church's liturgy can only be lived and expressed in local ways. On Sumba Island, the church's liturgy is expressed contextually and inculturatively, as seen in various forms of culture, such as language, music, dance, and clothing. This study aims to determine the people's impressions and feelings about the inculturation movement at the Holy Spirit Cathedral Parish. This research used qualitative methods with an ethnographic approach. Data for this study were obtained through in-depth interviews with informants from several groups. Subsequently, the data were analyzed descriptively and qualitatively. The results show that the practice of liturgical inculturation at the Holy Spirit Cathedral Parish in Weetebula does not diminish the sacredness of the liturgy as long as it is appropriate to its portion and context. Instead, it enriches the congregation's experience of faith, without diminishing the core of the faith as taught in the Catholic Church. The conclusion that can be drawn from this study is that inculturation and liturgical sacredness can coexist and do not negate each other. These findings can serve as pastoral recommendations within the Catholic Church regarding the importance of liturgical inculturation within the church.

Abstract

This study examines how organizations with alternative pastoral systems strive to achieve financial independence as a corrective to conventional pastoral care, which has long relied on external funding. On the one hand, charitable work under this system must manage conflicts arising from the demands of business professionalism. On the other hand, it must also uphold social welfare through compassionate services. Thus, this approach develops a governance framework that enables organizations to operate professionally while safeguarding the core of their mission. The researcher employs a case study method to analyze data from four distinct pastoral services: orphanages, schools, student dormitories, and hospitals. The findings reveal three fundamental elements that establish a balance between professional conduct and compassionate service. First, establishing internal governance to protect both social and commercial cash flows. Second, establishing a governance system that allows business personnel to develop the essential skills required by industry standards. Third, establishing a strategic framework that functions as a “moral constitution” to guide both business success and social objectives, ensuring that underprivileged communities receive special assistance through cross-subsidy programs.
