Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the image-based Synthetic Analytical Structure Method (SAS) in improving early reading skills in children with mild intellectual disabilities at SLB Bhakti Luhur Malang. The application of the SAS method consists of three stages, namely the introduction of complete sentences accompanied by images, analysis of sentence elements into words, syllables, and letters, and re-synthesis of these elements into complete sentences. The method used is the single subject experiment method (Single Subject Research) with an A-B-A design. This method was chosen to evaluate the effectiveness of the image-based Synthetic Analytical Structure Method (SAS) in improving early reading skills in children with mild intellectual disabilities at SLB Bhakti Luhur Malang. At the baseline stage 1 (A1) reading ability is measured without intervention, while the intervention stage (B) the SAS method is applied which combines sentence recognition with images and synthetic analysis of sentence elements. The results showed an increase in the subject's reading ability from 29% from the baseline phase (A1) to 62% in the intervention phase (B), and reached 84% in baseline phase 2 (A2). These results indicate that this approach not only improves reading comprehension, but also encourages student involvement in more active and interesting learning activities. Despite significant improvements, children with intellectual disabilities still need additional guidance in combining letters and words from more complex sentence variations. The results and findings of this study provide opportunities for further research to continue to improve the quality of education for children with special needs and maximize their potential in reading. The results of this study make an important contribution to the development of more effective and creative teaching methods for children with special needs. This research opens up opportunities for further studies to address the challenges of reading instruction in the group of children with intellectual disabilities.

Abstract

Injustice is a complex problem in various fields of human life. The Catholic Church, with its mission as a propagator of moral values and humanity, has a crucial role in creating justice in society. Pope Francis, through the Encyclical Fratelli Tutti, calls for the importance of justice missions based on universal brotherhood in facing the world's injustice crisis. The call to brotherhood transcends the barriers of faith and culture, striving for true humanity. The purpose of this study is to analyze the mission of justice in the view of Fratelli Tutti to answer the challenges of global injustice. It also seeks to explore how the Church applies the messages in Fratelli Tutti in their daily lives, both personally and socially, to create positive changes in society. The methods used in this research are qualitative methods and critical reading of the encyclical as well as analysis of related literature. The result of this research is that the mission of justice carried out by the Church in its ministry should be carried out in the spirit of universal brotherhood, which includes the face of love, the spirit of dialogality, and actions as ambassadors of justice who are brave and committed to fighting for justice every day. This mission of justice is not only a legal demand, but also a divine call and moral call for the Church to act as an agent of renewal that brings society to a better place. In addition, the mission of justice is also not only about giving appropriate punishment to perpetrators of injustice, but also about reconciliation. The Church, through this role, can realize its humanity in the midst of a world and society that experiences injustice. The research findings are that the mission of justice promoted by the encyclical can answer the challenges of global injustice, build social change, and repair broken relationships. It is this inclusive and just attitude that will move people to fight for social justice.

Abstract

This article discusses the story of the expulsion of Hagar and Ishmael according to the Book of Genesis. The negative profile of Hagar and Ishmael as inherited in the New Testament (cf. Galatians 4:22-26) needs to be balanced with a more positive model of interpretation. Using qualitative methods through document research, the author emphasizes the opinion that the Book of Genesis is a result of editorial work that intentionally seeks a path of dialogue between different tribes in Palestine. To support the framework above, the author uses narrative analysis and evidence from redaction criticism. The results of this study showed: firstly, the figures of Hagar and Ishmael according to the Book of Genesis are not always black and white as Paul describes in Galatians. Secondly, the story of Hagar and Ishmael is a form of negotiation or joint consensus to seek dialogue and a path of peace so that it can be used as a biblical basis for discussions on interfaith dialogue or borrowing the term after Pope Francis' visit: “the silaturahmi tunnel”.

Abstract

 The modern challenges of secularization, hedonism, and moral relativism have threatened the spirituality of Christians, affecting the quality of pastoral ministry within society. Therefore, strategic and relevant efforts are necessary to address these challenges without losing the essence of Gospel values. This study aims to explore the role of pastoral ministry as an expression of Christian love in responding to these challenges and its relevance in the modern era. This focus is expected to provide practical solutions that promote the revitalization of faith within a changing societal context.The method used in this study is a literature review, examining various theological references and pastoral practices. The findings suggest that pastoral ministry based on Christian love can respond to contemporary challenges through community-based approaches and concrete social actions. Furthermore, this ministry must be contextual, leverage digital technology, and engage young people to maintain its relevance in an ever-evolving era. This underscores the need for synergy between profound faith traditions and innovative pastoral methods to reach a broader audience effectively. In conclusion, pastoral ministry plays a central role in the social and spiritual transformation of the faithful and requires renewal in its approach to remain relevant amid changing times. Therefore, dynamic and adaptive pastoral ministry is the key to creating a tangible impact on the lives of Christians.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms of gender-based injustice in East Nusa Tenggara province and explain the attitude of the church in dealing with the situation. The method used in this research is a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data sources were obtained through literature study. Researchers read books, journals, research reports and news in online and printed mass media regarding the teachings of the Catholic Church and the situation of gender injustice in the context of East Nusa Tenggara. The data obtained from the reading were then interpreted according to the perspective of gender theory and further examined from the perspective of Christian theology. Based on this study, it was found that gender-based injustice is a social fact that occurs in almost all regions of NTT. The factors that trigger gender-based injustice are an overly dominant patriarchal culture, government policies that are less friendly to women and children, and erroneous religious interpretations. The Catholic Church must truly declare its partiality to women and formulate pastoral policies that are friendly to women and children. The main limitation of this study is the lack of data based on up-to-date field research. Therefore, the researcher recommends that an in-depth field study on gender-based injustice in NTT be conducted

Abstract

This research aims to explore the effectiveness of basic pastoral implementation in shaping the spirituality of students of the Pastoral Service Study Program at the Indonesian Pastoral College of the IPI Malang Foundation, who live in the digital era. Basic pastoral is an important foundation in building the character and spiritual life of students as prospective pastoral ministers. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive approach. The data collected in this study through in-depth interviews with ten students were selected based on their involvement in basic pastoral practice as well as their experience in carrying out basic pastoral practices. The research informants consisted of two first-year students, two second-year students, two third-year students, and three fourth-year students. The results of the study show that basic pastoral implementation is the foundation in the spiritual life of students in the digital era. have a significant impact on the formation of students' spirituality, strengthen their faith, and prepare them to face the challenges of the digital age with spiritual faith and maturity. Activities such as meditation, scripture reading, worship/eucharist, self-formation, and community interviews help students strengthen their relationship with God. Although the digital world is often challenging, the basic pastoral helps students to stay focused on their spiritual life, as well as form spiritual discipline, build awareness of God's presence, and teach them how to use their time wisely, so that they can maintain a balance between the digital world and spiritual life.

Abstract

Justine has moderate intellectual disability who still has difficulty recognizing and distinguishing the basic colors red, yellow and blue. The aim of this study is to introduce basic colors using puzzle games. Data collection uses observation. The data obtained are analyzed using descriptive statistics and displayed in the form of tables and graphs. The components analyzed are analysis in conditions and analysis between conditions. The type of research used is quantitative research of the experimental type with a single subject research method or known as single subject research with an A-B-A (Baseline-Intervention-Baseline) design. In the baseline-A1 condition, it was carried out for three sessions and was given a score without intervention, in the intervention condition there were six sessions with intervention and was given a score then repeated again in the baseline A-2 condition with three sessions without intervention. The results obtained in the baseline A-1 session, the average score was 25% which means that children still often make mistakes in naming colors. In the intervention condition there was progress in the 3rd intervention, namely obtaining a score of 75% and there was progress where on the last day of the intervention obtained a score of 100% which means that children can recognize basic colors. To ensure that the ability to recognize colors is already possible, a recheck was carried out for three sessions and the results obtained were 100%. Thus, it can be concluded that the puzzle game method is effective for introducing basic colors to children with moderate intellectual disabilities.

Abstract

Pastoral accompaniment in the Catholic Church plays a crucial role in shaping the faith of the faithful continuously, yet its implementation still faces various challenges. While many studies discuss the role of catechists in evangelization and catechesis, research on concrete strategies for effective pastoral accompaniment remains limited. This article aims to analyze the role of catechists in supporting evangelization and faith formation, as well as identify effective pastoral accompaniment strategies by integrating teachings from the Holy Scripture and Church documents. The method used in this research is literature review, examining various written sources including the Holy Scripture, Church documents, and previous studies relevant to the topic of pastoral accompaniment. The theoretical framework includes pastoral principles found in the Holy Scripture and key teachings from Church documents such as Evangelii Nuntiandi and Catechesi Tradendae. The data analysis technique used is thematic analysis, which involves tracing and grouping the main themes from various literature sources to understand the relationships between concepts. The findings show that community-based pastoral accompaniment and the use of digital technology can enhance the effectiveness of pastoral programs. Challenges include limited resources and resistance to change, but there are significant opportunities for program development through social and ecological synergy. In conclusion, the role of catechists is vital in realizing evangelization and continuous faith formation, with innovative and adaptive approaches to the evolving times. Effective pastoral accompaniment can help build a strong and relevant Church for the future.

Abstract

Interfaith marriage is a phenomenon that continues to grow in modern society, including in the Catholic religion. This research aims to identify socio-religious dynamics in interfaith marriages and explore the strategies implemented by Catholic couples, both husband and wife, in maintaining their religious identity. This study focused on Catholics in the Immaculate Conception Parish of Kepanjen, using a qualitative approach through in-depth interviews, observation and documentation.  The research results show that interfaith marriages pose significant challenges in religious life, including in the practice of worship, children's education, and social interactions with the extended family. To face this challenge, Catholic couples apply various strategies, such as building open communication with their partners, negotiating rules regarding worship, and involving children in church activities from an early age. Additionally, support from the Catholic Church is an important factor in helping couples maintain their religious identity.  This research also found that tolerance and respect for the beliefs of non-Catholic partners are key elements in maintaining harmony in their families. Despite facing various dynamics, Catholic couples at the Immaculate Conception Parish of Kepanjen demonstrate the ability to integrate the values ​​of their faith in family life in an adaptive and inclusive manner. This study provides insight into the importance of pastoral support and community strengthening for interfaith couples in maintaining their religious identity.

Abstract

A number of Catholic students from other cities in Malang are the members of the Legion of Mary. This phenomenon is relevant to be studied because the presence of the Legion of Mary in the Catholic Church and the involvement of young people in it is very important. The Legion of Mary is a lay apostolic group. The presence of lay apostles is very important. However, the composition of the Legion of Mary members is dominated by older people. Not many young people become legionaries. There is an impression that the Legion of Mary is not suitable for them. In order to eliminate this impression and in order to formulate the right way to promote the Legion of Mary among the young people, it is necessary to examine their motives to become legionaries. For this purpose, we examine the motives of involvement of a number of Catholic students in Presidium Maria Bunda Perjalanan. The status quaestionis of this study is: what are the motives of the involvement of Catholic students in the Legion of Mary? The method used in this study is qualitative with a phenomenological approach. Data from research subjects were collected using observation techniques and direct interviews. We found that the involvement of the subjects in the Legion of Mary was motivated by three main motives, namely spiritual, social, and self-development motives. Therefore, in order to promote the Legion of Mary among the students, these three motives need to be presented.
