Jurnal Kata : Penelitian tentang ilmu bahasa dan sastra, by ISSN 2502-0706 (Online) Research on linguistics, literature and art. Is a scientific journal that publishes the results of research and thinking in two languages, namely: Indonesian and English. Jurnal Kata is published twice a year in May and October. This journal is published by Lembaga Layanan Pendidikan Tinggi (LLDIKTI) Wilayah X in, Padang, Sumatera Barat, Indonesia collaboration with universities that have the fields of Language and Literature. Each text sent will go through a review process by a sustainable partner. Article publishing is based on the assessment of sustainable partners and implementing editors.

<![CDATA[This research is motivated by the fact that oral literature in the form of Kunaung has ethics as a guideline for behavior in the life of the Kerinci community. The ethics contained in the kunaung serve as guidelines for behavior and the structure of the Kerinci family and community. However, due to the rapid development of science and technology today, oral literature like Kunaung has been neglected. For this reason, tactics are needed in order the existence of oral literature is not obsolete. research is done to answer the research questions which were: how was the embodiment of ethics in the family and society order found in Kunaung. This study aimed to describe the ethics found in Kunaung both in the family and society order. The method used in this research was descriptive method which described ethics both in the family and social order in Kunaung. The research data was in the form of sentences and paragraphs both in narrative and dialogue form. This data was collected based on qualitative methods. Ethics in Kunaung appear implicitly both in the family and social order. The ethics that appeared implicitly in the family order were affection, devotion to parents and responsibility. Meanwhile, ethics in the social order that appeared implicitly were mutual cooperation, adherence to traditional institutions, and wisdom. The results of this study academically provide information to reader about ethics in the Kerinci family and society in kunaung, to add the repertoire of oral literature regarding ethics in the Kerinci’s family and society.]]>

<![CDATA[The Help is a film that is adopted from Kathryn Stockett’s novel with the same title. It tells about a young white woman named Skeeter who wants to make black and white people live equally in the society. This research aims to analyze Skeeter’s struggle for life equality between black and white people. In order to analyze it, the writer applies Adler’s individual psychology to the data from the film such as dialogues, monologue and scenes. Furthermore, this research is assumed to be useful for the following researchers with the same topic or idea. Adler’s individual psychology is used to analyze Skeeter’s life of style and her struggle for superiority or striving for superiority. Hence, those aspects would give understanding how Skeeter fights for black people’s life. This research concludes that Skeeter struggles for making black people’s life better. It is influenced by her childhood experience that is called style of life and social inequality. Her style of life encourages her to do an action to make black people well-accepted in the society. Therefore, her struggle is also called as striving for superiority that is not for herself but for social interest.]]>

<![CDATA[This study focuses on the syntactic and semantic process of compound words used in the recipe books. This qualitative descriptive study aims to classify the types of compounds and analyse the semantic and syntactic structure of compounds. This study used Lieber’s (2009) theoretical framework of compound words to analyse the data. This study used 40 compound words from selected recipe books. Morphological analysis is used to analyse the compound words, classify the types and the meaning of compound words on the food terms. Based on the samples chosen, mostly hyphenated compounds, attributive compounds and verb compounds were used in the recipe books.]]>

<![CDATA[Literary work is not only a reflection of the socio-cultural conditions of a particular time but also a display of its people’s development of thinking. This study aims to describe the social situation of French society in the nineteenth century portrayed in the short story ‘Le Papa de Simon’ by Guy de Maupassant and explain the social criticism conveyed by the author. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative. Data in the form of words, phrases, and sentences were collected by library study techniques. Data in French were translated by the researcher and the results validated by native speaker. Data analysis was performed by grouping, interpreting, and studying the sociology of literary approach. The results of the study prove that (1) all narrative elements of the short story supported the depiction of social conditions (2) regarding the institution of marriage, family values and religion in nineteenth-century French society. (3) In addition to reflecting human character, Maupassant also proposes social criticism primarily related to the impact of low education, poverty, social inequality and the discrimination of women. From this study, it was found that the author conveyed his criticism of human cruelty in society, which often resulted from obeying to rules and norms.]]>

<![CDATA[This study aims to describe the strategy and meaning of the tweet on Twitter with the hashtag 2019GantiPresiden. This type of research is descriptive with a qualitative approach. Data source in the form of uploaded Twitter account with 2019GantiPresiden hashtags in the form of verbal writing. Data collection techniques using the stages of reading and note-taking. Data analysis techniques were also carried out in-depth using critical discourse analysis methods adapted from the Fairclough (1995) model, namely (1) description, (2) interpretation, and (3) explanation. The results of the study found three speech strategies that were used by the 2019 non-presidential twitchy uploaders, namely (1) distorting facts, (2) analogies, and (3) satire (satire). This strategy forms a societal ideology, namely (1) the ideology of rejection of government policies, (2) the ideology of defending people's rights, and (3) the ideology of justifying their group.]]>

<![CDATA[This study aims to describe the values of character education in the poem Phaosan Jehwae's Malay Patani Dilemma. The main approach used in this study is descriptive qualitative. The data of this research are the expressions in the Patani Malay Dilemma poetry which have character education values. The data source of this research is Phaosan Jehwae's Malay Patani Dilemma poetry. The data of this research were collected by means of documentation, observation, and note-taking techniques. This research data analysis using referential matching method. The results of this study indicate that there are eight values of character education in the poems of Patani's Malay Dilemma by Phaosan Jehwae. The eight values of character education include: (1) the character of love for the country, (2) religious character, (3) the character of hard work, (4) the character of optimism, (5) the character of being friendly or communicative, (6) the character of justice, (7) the character of language politeness, and (8) the character of wisdom. This shows that these poems are good for learning materials. This research is useful as a medium for character building students in high school.]]>

<![CDATA[There are various words used to express basic emotions, such as Anger, Sadness, Joy, and Fear both literally and figuratively. This study focused on metaphorical expressions, one of the figurative expressions to convey Sadness in English and Japanese. Every culture has a different concept in expressing emotions metaphorically. So, this paper describes how English and Japanese express their Sadness through metaphor, and how they think Sadness is an analogy or a comparison to something else. Data were taken from the sadness metaphor listed by Kövecses (2000), Esenova (2011) English and Japanese song lyrics. A qualitative method was used in analyzing the data in a framework of semantics theories. The results show that English and Japanese have similarities and differences. The similarities can be contributed to the universality of conceptual metaphors and the differences can be related to particular culture modes in English and Japanese.]]>

<![CDATA[Omoiyari is an understanding of how to think about other people's feelings. With that understanding, it will lead us to think about what to do or what not to do to others. As many as 61.9% of parents in Japan want their children to have an omoiyari attitude. This shows how important it is in Japanese society. This study is to find out how the application of the omoiyari concept and its relation to prosocial behavior. The corpus of data to be studied is the folktale of Japanese children, considering that one of the functions of folktales is to instill moral teachings. The method used in this research is a qualitative method, with a literature study method. There are five tales that will be used in this study, namely the Kasa Jizou (Budha Statue), Shita kiri Suzume, Urashima Taro, Hanasaki Jiisan and Tsuru no Ongaeshi. From the data analysis, it is found that the tales describe the omoiyari concept of each of the main characters, as well as the protagonist's prosocial behavior towards other people or creatures.]]>

<![CDATA[Imaginary works of fiction present various human and humanitarian problems, as well as the life and life of the author in representing various problem that are manifested in fiction based on the author own point of view. Genetic Structuralism is an approach that examines literary texts in terms of structure by considering the building elements and the correlation between these elements. The unity and integrity of the text, then correlate with the socio-cultural aspects that influence it. The elements in questions include human facts and collective subjects. Qualitative descriptive is the method chosen in completing this research, by describing the facts of humanity and collective subjects in the data in the form of the Tanggo and Sadimin novel by Ramdya Akmal, totaling 272 pages. The results obtained in the form of an analysis of Genetic Structuralisme (1) Human facts, (2) collective subjects, followed by (3) world view as a form of representation in real life into the novel.]]>
