Abstract

The impact of institutional corporate governance on the financial performance of Islamic banks, with a specific focus on Shari’ah Supervisory Boards and corporate boards. The findings of this study indicate that Islamic banks with Shari’ah Supervisory Boards outperform Islamic banks without such boards, as measured by return on assets (ROA), return on equity (ROE), asset growth (AG), and interest margins (IM). Further findings of this study indicate that the financial performances of Islamic banks with Shari’ah Supervisory Boards and corporate boards are influenced by several board characteristics, including the size of the board and the education of the board members. Moreover, Shari’ah Supervisory Boards provide tighter monitoring and control, as well as more advising and counseling, as compared with Islamic banks without Shari’ah Supervisory Boards. Later findings indicate that Shari’ah Supervisory Boards’ affiliations with international Islamic financial institutions motivate the positive relationship between the Shari’ah Supervisory Boards and Islamic bank performance. Overall, this study provides strong evidence that Shari’ah Supervisory Boards benefit shareholders by complementing corporate boards and thus mitigating agency problems and agency costs.

Abstract

The research focuses on determining the effect of commercial bank’s market power on net interest margin and the moderating role of financial access. The study uses annual data of 33 commercial banks in Indonesia from 2012 to 2019 based on the category of State-Owned Commercial Banks and National Private Commercial Banks. The data is obtained from secondary data, using financial reports published by commercial banks. The data is analyzed using moderated regression analysis to estimate two models, basic model is used to estimate the effect of market power on net interest margin, while the interaction model is used to estimate the moderating effect of financial access. Market power was measured using the Lerner index of each bank. Financial access was measured by the number of branches and the availability of electronic banking channels such as mobile banking, internet banking, and digital branch. The results show that the increase in commercial bank’s market power significantly increases net interest margin. Other results also show that branch and mobile banking & internet banking significantly moderate the effect of market power on the net interest margin, while the digital branch is not significantly moderating the relationship between market power and net interest margin.

Abstract

Football is a very popular sport in Indonesia. Every football club must have a supporter group. Usually supporters have a high level of fanaticism so they are willing to fight to defend the club they support. Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for anarchist acts of supporters to even bring the death. The anarchist level of football supporters needs to be reduced. In Indonesia, every football supporter club issue a KTA (Membership Card) but to watch a football match directly, the existence of a KTA is not a necessity. This needs to be considered in order to reduce the occurrence of anarchist acts. Besides the existence of KTA, it is necessary to look at the age of supporters who are allowed to watch football matches live and also the level of fanaticism that exists. If it is true that the existence of KTA, age and level of fanaticism affect anarchist levels, then Indonesian football parties need to make arrangements for the football audience directly based on these factors. This is the aim of this research. The data used are secondary data consisting of 1547 football supporters Persija, Persib, Persebaya and Arema. The data analysis method used is multiple regression analysis. The results obtained are the existence of KTA makes the level of anarchist lower, younger age has higher anarchist level, high level of fanaticism has higher anarchist level.

Abstract

Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BPOM) functions are to conduct investigations into violations of Food and Drug Administration regulation. It protects the public from the illegal distribution of drugs, traditional medicines, dietary supplements, cosmetics, and foods that could harm health. However, in practice, the implementation of law enforcement has not been optimal due to several factors, including the lack of a system or database that allows for the sharing of knowledge, experience, and lessons learned that can aid in decision making regarding the law enforcement process. This research aims to assess the current system of knowledge management and find the knowledge management strategies that support the organization's performance. The findings show that the BPOM Law Enforcement Division currently lacks knowledge management. It shows that there is a lack of skill in converting tacit knowledge into explicit knowledge. The system does not support facilitation. Recommendations are made for the BPOM Law Enforcement Division to establish a standardized documentation and database system and build facilities, infrastructure, and information systems supported by the leader and system. This study can help all work units, particularly the Law Enforcement Division, improve quality and maximize available human resources.

Abstract

This research aims to explain the cooperation between government and the private sector in poverty reduction of oil palm farmers in East Aceh, Indonesia. The research used a qualitative method; the data were collected by dept interview and documents study, and then analyzed with the interactive model. The results reveal that the cooperation of the government department and the private organization has been done automatically due to normative procedural demands, but there are no synergy efforts focused on oil palm plantation and cattle integration. However, the integrated model not only provides economic benefits but provides social benefits for farmers.
