Abstract

Background: Aging in the elderly is accompanied by various physiological changes, including sleep disturbances such as insomnia, which can reduce quality of life. One non-pharmacological intervention that can be used to reduce insomnia is the application of sleep hygiene behavior. Purpose: To determine the relationship between sleep hygiene behavior and the incidence of insomnia in the elderly.   Methods: This study employed a quantitative correlational design with a cross-sectional approach, conducted in May 2025. A sample of 67 elderly individuals was selected using purposive sampling from a total population of 80. Data were collected using the Sleep Hygiene Index (SHI) and a modified version of the Sleep Condition Indicator (SCI), both of which were tested for validity and reliability. Data were analyzed using the Spearman Rank test with the assistance of SPSS at a significance level of α < 0.05. Results: Most respondents had moderate sleep hygiene behavior (41.8%), and more than half experienced insomnia (52.2%). Statistical tests showed a significant and strong relationship between sleep hygiene behavior and the incidence of insomnia, with a p-value of 0.000 and a correlation coefficient r = 0.643. The positive correlation indicates that the worse the sleep hygiene behavior, the higher the risk of insomnia. Conclusion: These findings suggest that sleep hygiene is an effective non-pharmacological strategy in preventing or reducing the incidence of insomnia. The results of this study are expected to serve as a reference and guideline for Tresna Werdha in designing programs aimed at improving sleep quality among the elderly.

Abstract

Background: Compliance with taking Fe tablets is the behavior of pregnant women who obey the instructions or rules given by health workers during pregnancy. Many pregnant women do not comply with the recommendations for consuming Fe tablets given by health workers. This behavior occurs due to factors such as knowledge, education, and side effects of tablets, so that the purpose of giving them is not achieved. According to data from the Jember District Health Service in 2023, coverage of pregnant women who received Fe3 tablets (pregnant women up to the third trimester received 90 blood supplement tablets) was 83.13% and had decreased compared to 2022, which was 88.9%. The preliminary study results showed that 7 out of 10 pregnant women in the third trimester in the Sukowono Health Center Working Area still did not regularly consume Fe tablets. The purpose of the study was to determine changes in the behavior of third trimester pregnant women in taking Fe tablets based on the stage of change.  Method:The research design uses pre-experimental research with one group pre and posttest. The population used all pregnant women in the third trimester, as many as 60 people. The sampling technique was proportionate random sampling of 38 respondents. Data collection uses a questionnaire. Results: Data analysis using the Wilcoxon test. The research results showed that the majority of pregnant women before the intervention were in the contemplation stage, and after the intervention, in the action stage. There is a change in the behavior of third-trimester pregnant women in consuming Fe tablets based on the stage of change, with a p-value = 0.000 < 0.05. Conclusion: The behavior of pregnant women in consuming Fe tablets will increasingly become an action and lead to maintenance, so efforts need to be made to make pregnant women aware of regular consumption through providing education and assistance by health workers or families.

Abstract

Premature birth is a birth event at a gestational age of <37 weeks which contributes to increasing the Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) and Infant Mortality Rate (IMR). The cause of premature labor is not yet known with certainty, but it is suspected that there are several factors that influence it, one of which is non-obstetric disease. This study aims to determine the description of non-obstetric factors in premature labor at RSUP Prof. Dr. I.G.N.G Ngoerah. This type of research is quantitative descriptive. The research was carried out in November- Desember 2024 with a sample size of 144 respondents using a total sampling technique. Data collection uses secondary data. The results of data analysis obtained from 144 cases of non-obstetric premature births showed 116 cases of non-communicable diseases and 28 cases of infectious diseases. The highest data on non-obstetric premature births were in the non-obstetric non-communicable disease factor of hypertension as many as 49 respondents (42.2%) and the non-obstetric infectious disease factor of STI as many as 16 respondents (57.1%). Pregnant women are expected to undergo routine antenatal check-ups in accordance with the advice of health workers so that non-obstetric risk factors can be identified early to prevent more serious complications for mother and baby.
