Abstract

Background: The prevalence of hyperglycemia in adolescents is increasing. Lack of awareness for blood sugar screening causes cases of hyperglycemia to be undiagnosed. Objective: This study aims to analyze the factors influencing blood glucose levels among students of the Midwifery Study Program at Langsa Polytechnic of Health, Ministry of Health, Aceh, in 2025. Method: This study employed a cross-sectional design with a proportional sample of 51 students. The variables studied included sugar consumption patterns, physical activity, family history of diabetes, and Body Mass Index (BMI). Data were collected through questionnaires, random blood glucose level measurements, and BMI calculations. Results: The results showed that family history of diabetes (p = 0.029) and BMI (p = 0.032) had a significant relationship with blood glucose levels. In contrast, sugar consumption patterns (p = 0.347) and physical activity (p = 0.492) did not show significant associations. Conclusion: These findings indicate that genetic factors and nutritional status have a more significant impact on blood glucose levels than dietary habits and physical activity. Therefore, students with a family history of diabetes and high BMI should be more aware of their diet and lifestyle to prevent blood glucose imbalances

Abstract

Reproductive health is one of the indicators of a person's well-being. To achieve optimal reproductive health, of course, it begins with recognizing the reproductive organs. Background: There is still a lack of education for people with visual impairments regarding the anatomy of female genitalia and the menstrual cycle. Objective: to determine the effect of education using audio books regarding the introduction of reproductive organs and the menstrual cycle on the knowledge and attitudes of women with visual impairments. Method: The study was conducted in May-August 2024 in Bogor City, West Java Province. This study used a quasi-experimental design, with 31 respondents who could participate. Data collection was carried out by providing a pretest before providing education, and ending with a posttest. The analysis technique used the t-dependent test for the knowledge aspect and the Wilcoxon test for the attitude aspect. Results: there was a significant difference in the average knowledge between before and after education (p <0.05). In the attitude dimension, there was no significant difference between before and after education (p>0.05). Conclusion: Providing education about the anatomy of female genitalia and the menstrual cycle using audio books can improve the knowledge of women with visual impairments. Suggestions for further research is considering using more time to shape the attitudes of women with visual impairments in introducing the anatomy of female genitalia and the menstrual cycle so that they can be more aware of the importance of understanding this as an initial step in maintaining their reproductive health.

Abstract

Background : The cervix is influenced by various factors, including age, socio-economic status, age at first sexual intercourse, multiple sexual partners, uncircumcised sexual partners, parity, lack of maintaining genital hygiene, smoking, obesity, history of venereal disease, and family history of sufferers. Cervical cancer, chronic trauma to the cervix, use of sanitary napkins and pantyliners, diethylstilbestrol (DES), and use of oral contraceptives. Objective: To determine the determinants of risk factors for cervical cancer in the NTB Provincial Regional Hospital in 2023. Method: This type of research is observational analytic with a case-control research design. The sample was 156 people, consisting of 78 cervical cancer groups and 78 control groups. Data analysis used the Chi-Square test and logistic regression. Results: The results of the characteristics of the largest number there is a significant relationship between age of menarche (ρ value = 0.022), number of parities (ρ value = 0.000), use of hormonal contraception (ρ value = 0.000) nutritional status (ρ value = 0.000), number of marriages (ρ value = 0.000) and age at marriage (ρ value = 0.000) with the incidence of cervical cancer. Meanwhile, there was no significant relationship between smoking history (p value 0.586) and family history (p value 0.325) on the incidence of cervical cancer. And from statistical analysis using logistic regression, it was found that age at marriage is the dominant factor causing cervical cancer with an odd ratio value / Exp B = 3,773, meaning that people who have been married < 20 years have a 3,773 times greater risk of developing cervical cancer than people who have been married > 20 years. Conclusion: The results of statistical analysis show that age at menarche, number of parities, use of hormonal contraception, nutritional status, number of marriages, age at marriage play an essential role in increasing the risk of developing cervical cancer, while smoking habits and family history of cancer are not risk factors for cervical cancer, and Age at marriage is the dominant factor causing cervical cancer in NTB Provincial Regional Hospital in 2023. Suggestion: There is a need to develop community-based intervention models to increase awareness and compliance with screening.

Abstract

Background: Breastfeeding mothers often face a lack of milk production due to factors like changes in diet when returning to work and not breastfeeding or pumping frequently. In a previous study conducted at Arjasa Public Health Center, 100% of respondents reported inadequate milk production. Purpose : This study aims to analyze the effect of breast emptying using a breast pump on milk production in the Arjasa area. Methods: This study used a posttest-only control group design with 34 respondents, 17 in the control group and 17 people in the treatment group. Data were collected through a questionnaire and analyzed using the independent t-test statistical technique. Results: Independent t-test showed that the p-value was 0.001 < α = 0.05, leading to H0 rejection and Ha acceptance. This indicates that breast emptying using a breast pump affects breast milk production in working mothers in the Arjasa Community Health Center area. Conclusion: Breast emptying using a breast pump increases milk production. This increases prolactin hormone levels, the more milk emptied, the more milk produced. Thus, educating and supporting breastfeeding mothers in using a breast pump properly and the benefits of breast emptying is crucial for optimizing milk production.

Abstract

Background: Breast cancer remains a significant global health concern. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), by 2050, the number of new breast cancer cases is projected to increase by 38%, with a 68% rise in mortality, reaching an estimated 3.2 million new cases and 1.1 million deaths annually. In Indonesia, breast cancer is the most common type of cancer, with an incidence rate of 40.3 per 100,000 women and a mortality rate of 16.6 per 100,000 women. Alarmingly, approximately 70% of cases are diagnosed at an advanced stage due to low awareness of early detection. Data show that 90% of Indonesian women have never performed breast self-examination (BSE). This situation is exacerbated in regions such as Lenek Lauq Village, East Lombok Regency, where many health cadres lack sufficient skills in performing BSE. To address this issue, an innovative educational tool called "Rompi Mamae" (ROMA) was developed. Purpose: This study aimed to determine the effect of using ROMA on improving BSE skills among community health cadres. Methods: A quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent control group design was employed. A total of 48 health cadres were selected and divided into two groups: an intervention group (trained using ROMA) and a control group (provided with standard leaflets). Results: The findings revealed a significant improvement in BSE skills in the intervention group, with a mean post-test score of 31.65 compared to 17.35 in the control group (p = 0.000). Conclusion: ROMA has proven to be an effective and innovative educational medium for enhancing BSE skills among health cadres, with the potential to support broader efforts in early breast cancer detection within the community.

Abstract

Background Preeclampsia is the leading cause of maternal death in Indonesia at 37.1%. Preeclampsia is prevalent in 50 health center work areas in Karawang Regency. The number of preeclampsia cases is 17.52% of 8285 high-risk pregnant women. Failure to identify and manage cases based on risk factors also contributes to maternal death due to preeclampsia. The objective of this study is to enhance cadres' understanding of preeclampsia by enhancing their capacity to identify risk factors for preeclampsia at the Kertamukti Health Center. Aim: This study aims to explore the knowledge of cadres about the risk factors for preeclampsia. Method: This study uses a qualitative approach by conducting FGD (Focus Group Discussion). There were two discussion groups, each consisting of 12 cadres. Purposive Sampling Technique. The informants are Posyandu cadres and have been categorized in the FGD group. The analysis uses an analysis theme by creating keywords and matrices.  Result: Cadres do not know other names for preeclampsia and are still unfamiliar with the term. Cadres only know the term high blood pressure. so they do not understand the risk factors for preeclampsia. Conclusion: The study focuses on two major themes: the knowledge of preeclampsia and the collaboration between midwives and cadres. The term preeclampsia is still widely unknown and not understood by cadres.
