Abstract

This research is used to explore the  internet addiction concept which developed by Young who used  the  internet  consumer  subject  in Yogyakarta. 124 subjects (63 male a and  61 females) within 14‐35 years old, most of them were students, only 3 subjects who have worked. They catagorized as existing user  because   they had the criteria mentioned by Grohol (1999). Confirmatory  factor analysis became the basic for  construct  validity  testing. AMOS  fifth version (student version) was used to analyze the data. There are 2  factors which was tested  in structural equation model, they are main factor and additional factor.  The main factor consists of  5 items and additional   factor consists of 2 items. The result showed that structural equation model did not have the weakness which called Heywood Case,  because  there was  1  factor which consists of only 2  items. There are 2 modification suggested. The first modification model has discrepancy  index 9.782 (p>0.05) and the  second modification model  has  11.  452 (p>0.05). Abstract

The present study was an experimental study. The goal of the study was to  find out the effects of the quality of an argument, need for cognition  (NC)  and  the  degree  of  issue involvement, altogether  in determining  the attitude  toward  a message  given  through persuasive communication. The subjects were 80 students from 121 fresh  (entry)  students  of  the  Faculty  of Psychology, Gadjah Mada University, year 1995/1996. The subject was then  randomly assigned to four manipulation groups. Each group was  given  one  of  the  four  types  of manipulation, which were combinations of the quality of the arguments (strong or weak) and the degree of issue involvement (high or low). After the manipulation, the subjects were given an attitude scale measuring their  favorableness toward the issue. The data was analyzed with three ways factorial ANOVA. The results supported the hypothesis of the study. It can be concluded that when argument was strong, the higher motivation (that is, the higher NC and the  involvement) to process the message, the stronger the favorableness toward the  issue. On the other hand, when the argument was weak, higher motivation resulted in weaker favorableness. This study also found that the NC as a motivating  factor had stronger  influence rather than issue  involvement. Keywords:  argument  quality,  need  for cognition,  issue involvement

Abstract

Getting married  is perceived as an  important phase in human life‐cycle. Just like  fashion, marriage has also its own trend or mode. In Indonesia  the  legend  of   Siti   Nurbaya illustrating a kind of marital arrangement in, at least, the first half of the past century. Such a trend  in marriage is any more popular these days. Young people today mostly prefer to marry their own choices, those already bond in engagement or girl or boy  friends they already mate. Another kind  of  trend  has  appeared  recently.  Some moslems prefer to marry without the phase of dating or engagement. Some even marry ones chose, or arranged by their ustadz (spiritual leader). The purpose of this study is to find out whether  a  difference  in  the  premarital relationship(with versus without engagement or dating) affect couples’ marital satisfaction. The  result  shows  that  there  is  a  very significant difference in marital satisfaction between  dating  and  non‐dating  couples. Explanation upon the phenomenon discussed. Abstract

This article provides a meta-analitic review of the effect of exposure to audio visual media violence on aggressive cognition and aggressive affect. Exposure to audio visual media violence significantly enhanced aggressive cognition and aggres¬sive affect when the findings aggregated across studies, but the effect was not uniform across investigations. Only suggestive evidence was obtained concerning mode¬rators of effect, media type, sex and social situation (laboratory vs natural setting). Keywords: meta-analysis, audio vidual media violence, aggressive cognition, aggressive affect

Abstract

Physician decision making has an important impact on patient’s recovery and rehabilitation. A qualitative research of decision making process was conducted to explore how physicians arrive at a diagnosis decision. The informants were 11 skilled physicians who interviewed and participated in in-depth interview and observation. Data from interviews with physicians were used to construct and examine theories of decision making. The study found that decision making process would be better if supported by self-sensitivity, clear information, good standard operation procedure, alternatives availability of choices, adequate emotions, meaningful experiences, and good team-work. This study also found that algorithmic model encouraged the decision maker to think systematically and follow a logical sequence through decision making process. Bayesian model that based on probability theory had limitations on applications. The discussion suggests that second generation theories of behavioral decision can be chosen. Data on children and family characteristic were collected. Mother’s allocation time for their children were collected by interview using stucture questionnaires. Data on cognitive develop-ment were collected by testing subjects using Mental Development Index (MDI) of Bayley’s Scale for Infant Development (BSID) II. Dietary intake data were collected 2 days 24 hour food recall and Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ). There were no correlation between mother’s allocation time for their children, fish food consumption, and child cognitive development. There were negative correlation among daily energy, protein and energy, protein contribution from fish with cognitive development of children under two years respectively. Energy from fish contributedto 14,5% score of cognitive development of the children There were negative correlation between fish consumption and cognitive development of children under two years. Abstract

Considering the increased concerns related to the issues of moral and spiritual leadership, I conducted two studies to develop the construct and measure of prophetic leadership. In the first study, three Indonesian Moslem leaders were interviewed to describe their leadership behavior and characteristics from their own praxis. Prophetic leadership is the ability to influence others accomplishing shared objectives that is reinforced by soul enlightenment as the prophets have shown in their time. In the second study, 40 items were generated for measuring prophetic leadership were administrated to 151 employee of Islamic University of Indonesia. The dimensions that represent prophetic leadership consist of sidiq (conscience centred), amanah (trustworthy and highly committed), tabligh (communication skills), and fathonah (problem solver). The construct is translated into a measure called prophetic leadership scale. The results show an empirical support for its construct validity. A positive significant intercorrelations among four dimensions were found. Items were loaded into four different mentioned dimensions. Practical implications and suggestions for future research are discussed. Keywords: Prophetic leadership, sidiq, amanah, tabligh, fathonah
