Abstract

The development of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based technology has increased the production and spread of disinformation in the digital space, posing serious challenges for the younger generation in identifying the veracity of information. This study aims to analyze how Islamic communication strategies can contribute to improving the digital literacy and critical thinking skills of the younger generation in dealing with AI disinformation in Padangsidimpuan, North Sumatra. The study used a qualitative approach with a case study design through in-depth interviews, limited observation, and documentation with eleven informants consisting of religious scholars, digital communication experts, educators, and young social media users. Data analysis was conducted thematically using an interactive analysis model. The results show that the application of Islamic communication principles such as tabayyun (religious inquiry), qaulan sadidan (verification of information), and the ethics of information verification can strengthen digital literacy and encourage critical thinking among the younger generation in evaluating digital information. Furthermore, the role of religious scholars and educators as opinion leaders contributes to building the younger generation's epistemic awareness of the dangers of AI disinformation. This study concludes that integrating Islamic communication values with digital literacy can be an effective strategy in increasing the resilience of the younger generation to information manipulation in the era of artificial intelligence. The authors recommend further research to quantitatively examine the effectiveness of Islamic communication strategies in improving digital literacy. The study also needs to be expanded to include formal education, digital communities, and social media. Furthermore, it is crucial to examine the use of AI technology as an educational tool to sustainably strengthen digital literacy based on Islamic values.

Abstract

The phenomenon of early marriage in Indonesia, particularly in Barumun Tengah District, Padang Lawas Regency, is still often characterized by the practice of marlojong, which arises as a response to communication barriers within families. This condition indicates a serious problem in communication patterns between adolescents and parents, particularly those that are still hierarchical and limit the space for dialogue, thus potentially causing conflict and weakening family functions and traditional values. This study aims to analyze the communication barriers faced by adolescents who want to marry within the family and their implications for the marlojong culture. The study used a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach to explore the subjective experiences of adolescents, parents, and traditional leaders in the marital communication process. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, then analyzed thematically. The results show that communication barriers arise from hierarchical family communication patterns and unequal power relationships, thus limiting the space for dialogue among adolescents. This condition encourages marlojong as an adaptive strategy to overcome communication deadlocks. The study also found a shift in the cultural meaning of marlojong from a mechanism of customary compromise to a symbol of resistance by the younger generation to family authority. The social and cultural implications of this phenomenon are seen in the weakening of harmonious family relations and customary legitimacy. This research emphasizes the importance of dialogic family communication to maintain the sustainability of local culture.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology has had a significant impact on adolescents’ lives, one of which is the increasing addiction to online games, which affects social skills. Adolescents who experience online game addiction tend to interact less directly with others, have difficulties in communication, and exhibit low levels of empathy and social cooperation. This study aims to examine the effect of group guidance using ice-breaking techniques on improving social skills among adolescents addicted to online games. The study employed a quantitative, quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test model, including an experimental and a control group. The research subjects were adolescents addicted to online games in Bungamas Village, Kikim Timur District, selected through purposive sampling. The results showed that in the group without ice-breaking treatment, there was no improvement in social skills between the pre-test and post-test. Meanwhile, in the group that received group guidance with ice-breaking techniques, there was an improvement in social skills with positive ranks (N = 4) and an average increase of 9.63. The Wilcoxon test results indicated an Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.013 (< 0.05), demonstrating a significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores. Therefore, it can be concluded that group guidance with ice-breaking techniques has a significant effect on improving social skills among adolescents addicted to online games.

Abstract

This paper examines the strategy of da'wah in empowering the community by thematically examining the verses of the Qur'an. The background of this study is based on the social reality in Indonesia, where by the end of 2022 the poverty rate has increased to 10.25 percent or around 27.54 million people. This phenomenon shows a gap between Islamic teachings that emphasize worldly and afterlife welfare, with the real conditions of some people who still face unemployment, hunger, and increasing crime rates. This study uses a qualitative method with a library research approach, focusing on tracing the verses of the Qur'an related to the principles of empowerment. The results of the study show that the strategy of da'wah in empowering the community is reflected in various verses that emphasize the importance of fostering community skills, instilling values of independence, and optimizing the potential of zakat, infaq, waqf, and alms. These three aspects are the conceptual foundations in the Qur'an that encourage people to escape dependence, strengthen economic potential, and create sustainable independence. Efficient and professional management of social funds is considered a relevant and effective da'wah strategy in improving the welfare of the community and realizing social justice.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation and spiritual development based on Sufistic da'wah and its challenges in facing the currents of globalization at Parsulukan Aek Salak and Babussalam Rodang Selamat in Padang Lawas. Globalization has brought social changes that weaken religious awareness and increase materialistic orientation within society. This condition requires a da'wah approach that is capable of addressing the inner spiritual dimension more deeply. The study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method using observation, interviews, and documentation techniques. The findings reveal that the implementation of Sufistic da'wah is carried out through structured spiritual activities such as dhikr, suluk, tawajuh, and continuous spiritual guidance under the supervision of a mursyid. This spiritual development process enhances religious awareness, strengthens moral character, and builds community spiritual resilience. Sufistic da'wah also contributes to maintaining a balance between worldly life and the hereafter while fostering a moderate and inclusive religious character. The challenges faced include the influence of globalization that promotes materialistic thinking, the advancement of information technology, and shifts in religious behavior patterns. This study confirms that Sufistic da'wah remains highly relevant as a strategy for spiritual development in addressing the dynamics of globalization and serves as a solution to moral and spiritual crises in modern society.

Abstract

From Kiai Sholeh's perspective, religion essentially serves as a guide and savior for his followers. This study aims to understand KH. M. Sholeh Bahruddin's views on religious tolerance and the practice of such tolerance. This type of research is a qualitative study using a phenomenological approach with primary and secondary data sources. Data collection techniques in this study include participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation analysis. The results of the study indicate that Kiai Sholeh's views on religious tolerance are practices of tolerance found in Sufism, which include the application of the Galak Gampil fiqh law, comforting behavior, and the application of other fiqh laws. This is reflected in his preaching with the principle of "hugging not hitting, seeking friends not enemies, inviting not mocking, and spreading affection not cursing" as well as adhering to the principle of socializing with non-Muslims, namely "there is no minority or majority society, there is only plurality" to all people without limiting ethnicity, religion, race, or culture. This attitude of tolerance includes a broad and confident attitude, namely the attitude of students who have broad views and a deep understanding of various sciences, both worldly and social sciences.

Abstract

Students still lack a clear understanding of themselves, their emotions, and their responsibilities. This can impact their self-confidence and behavior at school. Therefore, self-affirmation techniques are important for improving student self-awareness. This study aimed to examine the effect of group guidance services using self-affirmation techniques on improving self-awareness in eleventh-grade students at SMA IT Al Fityah Pekanbaru. This study used a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest-posttest design. Ten students were selected through purposive sampling based on low and medium self-awareness categories. Data were collected using a self-awareness scale consisting of 28 valid items with a Likert scale. The research instrument had high reliability with a Cronbach's Alpha value of 0.916. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Wilcoxon test, and the normalized N-Gain test. The results showed that before the intervention, 20% of students were in the low category and 80% in the medium category. After eight treatment sessions, 80% of students were in the medium category with substantial score improvements, and 20% reached the high category. The Wilcoxon test results showed a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores with a p-value of 0.005. The average N-Gain score of 0.32 indicated moderate effectiveness. These findings suggest that group guidance services using self-affirmation techniques can improve student self-awareness and can be used as an alternative guidance and counseling intervention in high schools.

Abstract

The global ecological crisis and contemporary social problems compel Islamic institutions to respond through concrete action rather than verbal preaching alone. This study analyzes ecological da'wah communication strategies in responding to social change through a comparative study of Pesantren Al-Ittifaq Ciwidey and Fish Bank Indonesia. Both institutions demonstrate how Islamic theological values are operationalized through action-based programs in distinct institutional contexts. This research employs a qualitative approach using comparative virtual ethnography and netnography on digital platforms, including Instagram accounts and official websites of both institutions. The study applies Contextual Da'wah Theory, Murray Bookchin's Social Ecology Theory, and the Transformative Da'wah framework. Findings reveal three convergent communication strategies: participatory engagement, educational empowerment, and digital amplification. Pesantren Al-Ittifaq integrates organic farming, waste recycling, and a cooperative network empowering 270 alumni farmers, generating a 300% increase in farmers' income since 1993. Fish Bank Indonesia implements circular economy principles through community-based waste management and environmental campaigns. Both institutions demonstrate that ecological da'wah bil hal, combined with strategic digital communication, functions as an effective agent of social transformation. This comparative analysis contributes a theoretical framework for understanding action-based ecological da'wah across different institutional types in Indonesia and recommends the tathwir-tamkin paradigm as a practical guide for designing sustainable ecological da'wah programs.

Abstract

pretest-posttest experimental design was employed. The participants consisted of 15 students selected through purposive sampling based on low and moderate levels of emotional regulation. Data were collected using an emotional regulation scale consisting of 26 valid items measured on a Likert scale. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics, the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test, and normalized N-Gain analysis. The findings revealed that before the intervention, 20% of students were in the low category and 80% were in the moderate category. After eight sessions of group guidance services, no students remained in the low category, 46.6% were in the moderate category, and 53.3% reached the high category. The Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test indicated a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores, with a significance value of p = 0.001. Furthermore, the mean N-Gain score was 0.45, indicating a moderate level of effectiveness. Improvements were observed across all aspects of emotional regulation, including emotional acceptance, emotion regulation strategies, goal-directed behavior, and control of emotional responses. These findings suggest that group guidance services using role playing techniques based on cognitive reframing are effective in improving students' emotional regulation. Through role playing activities and cognitive restructuring processes, students become more capable of recognizing, accepting, managing, and expressing their emotions appropriately in various situations. Therefore, this intervention can be considered a practical counseling strategy for enhancing students' emotional regulation in school settings.
