Abstract

In this modern era, da'wah is often exploited for material gain. Da'wah activities should be used to disseminate Islamic values to its adherents, as the saying "Ballighu 'aani Walau ayat" (convey even one verse). This is different from the religious command, this study aims to analyze the phenomenon of commodification and mediatization of religion in the television da'wah programs Wisata Hati and Islam Itu Indah (Islam Itu Indah). Using qualitative methods through literature study and digital observation, this study utilizes Vincent Mosco's Commodification theory and Stig Hjarvard and Stewart Hoover's Mediatization of Religion theory to understand the dynamics of da'wah message production in the media. The results of the study indicate that both programs underwent a commodification process that included the commodification of content, the commodification of audiences, and the commodification of preaching figures, where spiritual values were processed according to market and broadcasting industry demands. Furthermore, mediatization was seen through message visualization, content segmentation, personalization of ustadz figures, and the integration of entertainment elements that formed a new, more emotive and popular religiosity. The important findings of this study formulated the concept of Hybrid Da'wah, namely a da'wah model born from the negotiation between the sacredness of teachings and the rationality of the media industry. This concept shows the paradox between expanding access to da'wah and the potential for simplifying spiritual meaning. This research contributes to the study of religious communication in the context of modern media culture in Indonesia.

Abstract

Through social media and online platforms that reach a wide audience, the development of information technology in the digital era has significantly changed the pattern of mass communication. Every message in the media does not stop at conveying information but can also have an impact on the audience. This impact is known as the mass communication effect, which has become a major focus in communication studies. How audiences think, act, and behave is largely influenced by the media. This study aims to discuss the effects of mass communication on changes in attitudes and behavior, focusing on three main domains of human psychology: cognitive, affective, and conative. This research use descriptive qualitative approach and content analysis to emphasize the effects of mass communication on the psychological realm. The results of this study demonstrate that digital media has the ability to construct knowledge, influence feelings, and drive audience action quickly and dynamically. This research confirms that the role of social media as a strategic space requires critical study, especially on the effects of mass communication on understanding the relationship between media dynamics, society, and the process of forming an opinion that has an impact on changes in people's attitudes and behavior.

Abstract

Indonesia is known as an archipelagic nation rich in cultural heritage and traditional arts. This diversity is a priceless national asset, but it faces preservation challenges amidst modernization and globalization. The research method used is a qualitative case study in Aik Dewa Village, analyzing persuasive communication in the preservation of Rudat Art, a traditional Islamic art that is threatened by modernization. The persuasive strategy implemented is holistic and adaptive, including internal dialogue, intensive collaboration with schools (PAUD-SMP), and early regeneration from preschool age, as well as the instillation of Islamic moral and spiritual values. The response from the community, especially Generation Z, was found to be positive and participatory (for example in Rudat Kolosal), demonstrating the effectiveness of communication. This success is supported by Rudat's sacred value (ethos) and the credibility of local actors (Rudat Al-Guri). However, the main obstacle is the invasion of digital media, which causes apathy. In conclusion, the sustainability of preservation depends on the ability of communicators to optimize promotional adaptations on digital platforms to remain relevant to the younger generation.

Abstract

The development of social media, especially TikTok, has created a new space for da'wah activities that are not only monologic, but also dialogic, involving adherents of various religions. This study aims to analyze the application of the da'wah method through interfaith dialogue using TikTok. This study highlights how the Al-Bayanuni concept approach related to the da'wah method is implemented through interfaith dialogue using TikTok. The method used in this study is a descriptive qualitative approach with interviews, observation, and documentation as data collection techniques. The results show that the da'wah method through interfaith dialogue on the TikTok account @yusuf.pi.3 refers to the da'wah method according to Al-Bayanuni, which consists of the Sentimental da'wah method (Heart to Heart) demonstrated by the use of polite, firm, and clear language; the Rational da'wah method (Head to Head) demonstrated by opening dialogue sessions and question-and-answer sessions related to Islamic teachings; and the Sensory method (High Value to High Value) demonstrated by the use of visualizations to clarify the meaning of Quranic verses.

Abstract

Social media, as a digital technology product, has become a vital space in the formation and representation of culture, including patriarchal culture. Phenomena such as sexually suggestive dancers on social media platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube Shorts often spark social reactions that are steeped in patriarchal values such as moral judgment, objectification, and the reinforcement of gender stereotypes. The purpose of this study is to interpret how patriarchal culture is still reflected in social responses to sexually suggestive content on social media platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube Shorts. The research methods used were qualitative and ethnographic approaches, with semi-structured interviews conducted with informants. The results of this study indicate that social responses are still heavily influenced by patriarchal cultural values such as objectification, moral judgment, and reinforcement of gender stereotypes against women. It can therefore be said that patriarchal culture is still very strong in the digital space and has an effect on gender inequality on social media.

Abstract

This study explores the phenomenon of religious mediatization in the digital era through a case study of the “Login” podcast hosted by Habib Ja’far. The research focuses on how religious practices, clerical authority, and spiritual meanings are transformed through interaction with digital media logic. Employing a qualitative approach with discourse analysis and content observation, the study examines adaptive communication strategies in digital da’wah addressing younger audiences. Findings reveal that Habib Ja’far successfully constructs an inclusive dialogical space where religion emerges as an open, light, and contextually relevant narrative. In this sense, religious mediatization goes beyond message dissemination, becoming a negotiation of identity and authority within the digital public sphere.

Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of Islamic propagation (syiar) delivered through a local television program, “Kilau Ramadan,” broadcast by KJTV Jember, in shaping the religious understanding and attitudes of urban Muslims in Jember. While television remains a powerful audio-visual medium, the Indonesian media landscape has rapidly shifted due to digital broadcasting transition and increasing audience engagement with social media platforms. These developments encourage local broadcasters to adopt cross-platform strategies and interactive formats to sustain relevance. Using a communication and Islamic broadcasting perspective, this research explores how “Kilau Ramadan” packages religious messages, facilitates audience interaction, and positions itself within current regulatory and ethical standards of broadcasting. The study focuses on audience reception and perceived impacts, including message comprehension, motivation for religious practice, and the program’s relevance to urban daily life during Ramadan. The findings are expected to contribute to contemporary discussions on local Islamic broadcasting in the era of media convergence and to offer practical recommendations for developing contextual, ethical, and audience-centered religious programs.

Abstract

The quality of life of individuals and groups plays an important role in building harmonious social relationships through the principles of peace psychology implemented in peace education and realized in peace counseling. However, most peace counseling models still focus on technical and practical aspects, while their ontological, epistemological, and axiological philosophical foundations have not been studied in depth. This theoretical gap has the potential to weaken the scientific foundation and direction of peace counseling intervention development. Therefore, this study aims to examine various peace counseling models from a philosophical perspective as a basis for strengthening counseling theory and practice. The research method used is a literature study of books and journal articles related to peace counseling published between 2019–2025. Data analysis was conducted using qualitative analysis techniques through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study show that the peace counseling model developed by experts is based on four main counseling philosophies: humanistic, cognitive-behavioral, spiritual, and multicultural. Ontologically, humans are understood as religious, rational, social, and cultural beings who have the potential for both conflict and peace. Epistemologically, knowledge about peace is built through the integration of cognitive-behavioral change, self-awareness, spiritual values, and local wisdom. Axiologically, peace counseling is oriented towards the formation of peaceful, tolerant, compassionate individuals who are capable of building social harmony. Although this philosophy has not been fully studied by model developers, this novelty reveals that spiritual philosophy can be integrated with all guidance and counseling philosophies. Therefore, it is hoped that in the future, counseling model developers will pay attention to philosophical studies as the root of theory and practice.
