Abstract

This research aims to create a harmonious relationship among different religions in Indonesia. This aim is reached through reconstructing a multicultural theology based on biblical understanding. The multicultural theology is a biblical principle that be constructed in balancing between Old Testament and New Testament, between general revelation and special revelation. By exposing the general revelation based on theocentric dimension, we found general principles about how to make a good relationship among people in their differences, according to God’s perspective. At the same time, multicultural theology also exposes particular revelation principles centered upon the Christocentric dimension. This research is a qualitative study with a library approach. Data is analyzed by interpretation, critical thinking, and truth and healthy consideration based on the primary source.  We found a Christian value to be a foundation to make the relationship in harmony with other people. For this purpose we are proposing a theological framework designed from Biblical principles,   covering the following: (1) Cultural   Mandate, (2)  Human Nature, (3)  Theological principles: God’s  Sovereignty,  God’s  Providence and  God’s Justice, (4) Incarnation, (5) Universal Soteriology (6) Present Theocracy, (7) Church Nature and (8) Eschatological Multiculture. Christian leaders are central people that must create a relationship with other people in harmony. Through this way, the Christian leaders can engage the religious radicalism by doing good things and togetherness in social work.

Abstract

The appeal of contemporary radical interpretations for young Muslim women and men poses a new challenge to Islamic theology and education.  While  attention  has been given to the radicalization  of young men,  Muslim  women  remain  marginalized  within  academic  research. This article discusses gender-sensitive issues concerning radicalization. Based on the results of a pretest-study that inquires the success of ISIS regarding the recruiting of young women, aspects of universalism are approached, as constructions of gender, religion and education are discussed. Here, reconstructions of Islam between ideological, systematic and functional references of religion are taken into account.

Abstract

Abstract Since long time ago, pondok pesantren (islamic boarding school) has been considered as a moderate institution. It also gives priority to peaceful ways in dealing with conflict. Unfortunately, such known attitude is now being strongly questioned due to some vestedinterests found in the pesantren community. The various motives in religions, politics, economics, social, etc among the people lead pesantren to be vulnerable to conflict. Using qualitative method, this article intended to explore the mindset, characters, and attitudesof the people in pesantren in dealing with various “ikhtilaf” (disputes) that later used as means to portray peace cultures in the pesantren. The findings of the research showed that both pesantrens (Nurul Ummah and Ar-Romli) had never been in serious externalconflict. Nevertheles, they had applied the principles of peace cultures well.

Abstract

This article aims to describe Islamic religious thought of Muslim student at KhairunUniversity in Ternate and the dynamic of religious movement organizations on  campus. Informants of this study were selected using purposive method including activists of  Islamic organizations, students, and lecturers of the university. Data were collected using interviews, observation, and documentation, and searching data related to social context of the study from the internet. Findings of the research shows that the type of religious understanding and nationality of Muslim students after the reformation era at Khairun University began experiencing a shift since the presence of trans-national organizations, such as the Indonesian Muslim Student Action Union (KAMMI), Campus Propagation Institute (LDK), Hizbut Tahrir (HT), and Wahdah Islamiyah (WI). Those organizations adopt fundamentalists thought who want purification of Islam, and anti-tradition. Nationality thought adopted by these organizations is a country that imposes Islamic law and Establishes a state of Khilafah (HT). Nevertheless, most students at the Khairun University embrace cultural Islam, following the footsteps of their parents and Ternate society in general.
