Abstract

Background: Dental caries is the most common disease in children if ignored will cause various problems that quality of life. Therefore, it is very necessary to prevent early caries. The prevention of caries using Silver Diamine Fluoride is an effective option to prevent the development process of caries, especially in children. Aim: To know the effectiveness of 30% and 38% SDF concentration in preventing caries in children. Method: This Scoping Review was conducted according to Preferres Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) and two database (PubMed and Google Scholar). Result: The results showed that the initial search yielded 280 documents. After eliminating duplicate studies and screening full-text articles for eligibility (n = 63), the authors identified 5 studies that met the criteria for inclusion. Conclusion: The concentration of 30% and 38% SDF have the same effectiveness that can prevent the caries of teeth in children SDF 38% has the effectiveness in high antibacterial towards cariogenic biofilm.

Abstract

Background: Health is the most important factor in human survival. Dental and oral health is part of overall health. Caries is a disease most commonly found in the oral cavity so that is the main problem of oral health. Dental caries should be taken care of by filling. Nowadays have been found filling materials for caries for example glass ionomer cement (GIC). At Karang Pule Health Center located in Mataram City, GIC is the preferred material often chosen by dentists for caries. Objective: To know about the use of GIC as restoration material in Karang Pule Health Center located in Mataram, NTB in 2016-2020. Method: This research is a descriptive retrospective research using the cross sectional approach by taking the medical records of patients in Karang Pule Health Center whom were given GIC as the filling material. Result: There were 628 patients using GIC and categorized based on the year of fillng, age,sex, region of feeling and the period of teeth in each patient. Conclusion: Based on the year of filled, it shows that 2017 was the highest frequency of fillings with GIC, which was 193 patients (30.7%), while in 2020 it was the least frequency, which was 17 patients (2.7%). GIC is most widely used in patients aged 26-35 years (adults), as many as 202 patients (32.2%) and the least is done in patients aged 56-65 years and over. GIC treatment is more often accepted by female patients than male patients. The mandibular posterior region of the teeth is the region most filled by GIC.

Abstract

Background: Background: During a pandemic, dental and oral hygiene is often neglected. Lack of knowledge will give rise to new problems related to dental and oral hygiene. Knowledge about dental and oral health for the younger generation and the community is important to be maintained and improved during the pandemic. Objective: Defines an overview of youth student knowledge of oral health during an pandemic. Method: This is a descriptive observational study. Respondents filled out informed consent and questionnaires via Google Forms. This study was conducted by distributing a questionnaire containing 22 oral health questions to 114 adolescent students at Eben Haezer High School. Respondents filled out informed consent and questionnaires via Google Forms. Respondents were classified into good, satisfactory, and poor according to the results of answers to the questionnaire questions. Result: The outcomes of the studies records confirmed that the teenage students of SMA Eben Haezer Manado had poor knowledge (10.53%), sufficient knowledge (34.21%%), and good knowledge(55.26%). Conclusion: Most of the teenage students of Eben Haezer High School in Manado, have good dental and oral health knowledge (55.26%) during the pandemic

Abstract

Background: Dental and oral health is an important thing that must be maintained and cared for as best as possible to avoid the occurrence of diseases in the oral cavity. Knowledge of dental and oral health is very important in supporting behavior to maintain cleanliness and dental and oral health. Mother's knowledge can influence the formation of hygiene and oral health behavior in children, because mothers are people who are very close to children during their growth period and are role models for children. High knowledge will greatly impact a person's behavior in maintaining dental and oral health. Objective: To describe the overview of behavior of mother parents of primary school student about dental and oral health at the Karya Dharma Bhakti II Primary School in Palembang city. Methods: This type of research is descriptive observational research with a cross-sectional design or research design. The sample of this study were all mothers who had children at the Karya Dharma Bhakti II Primary School in Palembang city. This study uses a consecutive sampling technique, a minimum sample of 100 respondents. The data generated from the questionnaire will be collected and processed in the form of a frequency distribution table. Results: Respondents' knowledge of dental and oral health as many as 179 respondents (64%) in good category, attitudes as many as 158 respondents (57%) in good category, and actions as many as 206 respondents (74%) in good category so that the behavior of 234 respondents (84%) in good category. Conclusion: This study shows that the overview of behavior of mother parents of primary school student about dental and oral health at the Karya Dharma Bhakti II Primary School in Palembang city has a good category.

Abstract

Background: A dentist is able to be requested for help investigating a crime handled by the authorities. Hence, the knowledge of forensic odontology has to be possessed by not only forensic dentists but also all practicing dentists require having the knowledge. Dental identification is the most general method used in forensic odontology, not only tooth; palatine rugae are evidently able to be used as an alternative in personal identification method. Palatine rugae have been proven and considered to be relevant since their uniqueness in each rugae pattern. Palatine rugae have been equated with finger prints. Purpose: To obtain the illustration of the dentists’ knowledge level regarding palatine rugae in West Jakarta. Method: Descriptive observational study with cross sectional design conducted through online. The data collected from 100 respondents, all are dentists who practice in West Jakarta. A questionnaire used to measure the dentists’ knowledge. It consists of 11 closed-ended questions; score 2 given for correct answer, score 1 given for incorrect answer, and score 0 given for ‘don’t know’ answer. Result: The result of data calculation from respondents’ answers was divided into three knowledge categories. Based on the research data calculation, 36 respondents (36.0%) have good knowledge (76%-100%); 34 respondents (34.0%) have adequate knowledge (56%-75.9%); and 30 respondents (30.0%) have lack knowledge (less than 56%). Conclusion: The study obtained 36.0 % respondents have good knowledge, 34.0% respondents have adequate knowledge, and 30.0% respondents have lack knowledge.

Abstract

Background: C. xanthorrhiza Roxb. contains chemical compounds that beneficial as antioxidant. Extraction using ethanol 70% is required to obtain these compounds. The antioxidant activity is assessed by using DPPH, FRAP, and H2O2. Parameter to interpret the value is IC50 and the value is compared to absorbic acid. Purpose: To find out the comparison of antioxidant activity between C. xanthorrhiza Roxb. extract in ethanol 70% solvent and absorbic acid using DPPH, FRAP, and H2O2 methods. Method: Using laboratory research method. Simplicia of C. xanthorrhiza Roxb. was extracted using maceration method in 70% ethanol. The antioxidant activity was tested in the sample and the absorbic acid. The samples were incubated and measured at  = 520 nm for DPPH,  = 593 nm for FRAP, and  = 510 nm for H2O2. Result: The IC50 value of C. xanthorrhiza Roxb. extract was 194,74 g/mL DPPH, 49.69 g/mL FRAP, and 166,75 g/mL H2O2 , and for absorbic acid was 0,29 g/mL DPPH, 2,78 g/mL FRAP, and 0,55 g/mL H2O2. Conclusion: FRAP method is proven to be the strongest method for measuring antioxidant activity in C. xanthorrhiza Roxb. among the other methods.

Abstract

Introduction Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) present oral manifestations such as oral candidiasis (erythematous and pseudomembranous), oral hairy leukoplakia (OHL). The presence of oral candidiasis and OHL within the oral cavity not only suggests HIV infection, but is possibly one of the first signs of development into AIDS in the HIV-infected individual Case Presentation A 26 -year -old female reported to the Dental Hospital of Faculty Denstistry of Trisakti University with complaint of burning sensation and oral discomfort, altered taste at the tongue from the past since 6 months. Intra Oral examination revealed white lesion at dorsal of the tongue and red lesion at the middle of the tongue and also vertical white lesion looks like a plague at the ventral of the tongue . Conclusion Oral candidiasis is one of the most common, seen in persons with HIV or AIDS . The oral health status of an HIV-infected patient at presentation is an extremely important parameter. Very important to verify whether there is a relationship between the presence of OHL and clinical characteristics of the patients.

Abstract

Background: Tooth loss is a problem often occurs in old age, so tooth replacement may be needed. The most commonly used base material is hot polymerization acrylic resin. The cleanliness of dentures is very important. The method used is a combination method, which are mechanical methods and chemical methods using sodium perborate in general. Cleaning dentures can affect the surface roughness of the base. Objective: To find out whether there is an effect of a combination cleansing method on the surface roughness of a complete acrylic denture base. Method: 20 samples of 20x10x3 mm of hot polymerization acrylic resin were prepared and soaked in a solution of effervescent polydent (sodium perborate) tablets for 8 hours. After that, brushing is carried out on the sample for 90 seconds before the sample is soaked again using tap water. This treatment was repeated for 30 days. Results: The combination cleansing method uses a solution of effervescent polident tablets (sodium Perborate) and the brushing of the sample results in significant changes in surface roughness (p <0.05). Conclusion: The combination cleansing of brushing and soaking using effervescent (polydent) tablets containing alkaline peroxide affects the roughness of the acrylic resin denture base, thus allowing increased retention of microorganisms

Abstract

Background: Tooth loss is a condition that is influenced by various factors, including age. With age, the incidence of tooth loss also increases. The prevalence of individuals with partial tooth loss is quite high in Indonesia. Treatment with removable partial denture (RPD) is important to rehabilitate and replace the functions of missing teeth. The Indonesian version of the Patient’s Denture Assessment (PDA-ID) questionnaire will be modified, then validity and reliability tests were carried out in this study so it can be used to evaluate patient satisfaction with RPDs. Aim: To evaluate the level of patient satisfaction with RPD, which was measured using a modified Indonesian version of the PDA questionnaire. Methods: The type of this research is descriptive observational with a cross sectional research design. This research is conducted by distributing a modified PDA-ID questionnaire to 43 respondents who had received treatment for maxillary and mandibular RPDs by a dentist, and domiciled in South Tangerang City. Results: 88,4% respondents is satisfied with the removable partial denture they are using after being measured by a modified PDA-ID questionnaire (PDA-ID GTSL). Conclusion: The majority of respondents is satisfied with their RPD. The PDA-ID GTSL questionnaire is a valid and reliable measuring tool to evaluate the satisfaction of patients with RPDs.

Abstract

Background: Denture elements are parts that are used to replace missing teeth in removable partial dentures. The color of the tooth element is one of the important things because it is related to aesthetics. Apart from being used as an ingredient in cooking, basil leaves are also known to have antibacterial and antimicrobial effects. Purpose: This study aims to determine the effect of immersion time of basil leaf extract on changes in the color of acrylic denture elements. Methods: In this study, Ortolux brand acrylic resin denture elements with A3 color were used. The study was conducted by immersing denture elements in aquadest and basil leaf extract, then divided into a treatment group and a control group. In the treatment group, 20 mL of basil leaf extract was added and 20 mL of aquadest was added to the control group. Color measurement was carried out using a VITA easyshade V type spectrophotometer at the initial time before immersion and then at the 35 and 70 minutes. Calculation of the data using the normality test with the Shapiro-Wilk method, then continue with the independent T test and the Mann-Whitney test. Results: The results obtained from this study showed a significant change in E and C, but there was no significant color change in L and H. Conclusion: The use of basil leaf extract as a denture cleaning agent has a discoloration effect on acrylic resin denture elements.
