Abstract

The β-TCP material is a material of ceramic that often used in the medical and dental fields as a bone substitute material because it has biocompatible, bioresorbable and osteoconductive properties. Apart from that, this material is also biocompatible with tooth tissue, is non-inflammatory, and can regenerate dentin. Several studies have shown that the properties of β-TCP material can be a candidate for pulp capping material. These studies have also been carried out on experimental animals and showed good results. This article reviews the potential of β-TCP as a candidate pulp capping material in dentistry.

Abstract

Background: Zirconia is a biomaterial in dentistry. There are two types of zirconia restorations, zirconia veneered with feldspathic porcelain (ZVP) and monolithic zirconia (MZ). Monolithic zirconia restorations are increasingly being used due to their strength and fracture resistance as well as their good aesthetic capabilities. 3Y-TZP is indicated for framework material in porcelain-coated crowns and fixed dental prostheses in posterior and anterior regions. The occlusal adjustment stage of the restoration could possibly produce high surface roughness. Goals: To determine the effect of EVE Diacera polishing system on the surface roughness of 3Y-TZP generation zirconia after occlusal adjustment stage. Methodology: The type of research conducted was a laboratory experiment which took place at the Dental Material and Testing Center of Research and Education (DMT Core) Laboratory, Faculty of Dentistry, Trisakti University, Jakarta. This study used samples produced by FOCUS Dental Lab Jakarta. The samples are in the form of 3Y-TZP monolithic zirconia blocks that have passed the sintering, polishing, and glazing stages. This study used a total of 18 research samples divided into two groups. Data will be obtained from the average surface roughness results from the surface roughness tester which will be analyzed for normality test and homogeneity test (p>0.05) with the use of SPSS application. Results: The study showed that there is an effect of EVE Diacera polishing system on the surface roughness of 3Y-TZP generation zirconia restorations after the occlusal adjustment stage. Conclusion: EVE Diacera polishing system has an effect on the surface roughness of 3Y-TZP generation zirconia.

Abstract

Background: The very rapid development of technology for aesthetic treatment results has given rise to composite resin namely one shade composite resin. One shade composite resin has a chameleon effect that can copy all tooth colors using just one color. However, this composite resin can change color which causes patient dissatisfaction with the treatment results because it interferes with aesthetic value and appearance. This color change is influenced by the presence of color pigments and the acidic pH in the food and drinks, specifically red wine. Objective: To examine the effect of red wine consumption on the color stability of one shade composite resin. Methods: This research used sixteen one shade composite resins, consisting of 2 different brands in cylindrical shape (diameter: 10 mm; height: 2 mm) and allocated to 2 different groups, that is the control and treatment groups for each type of composite resin. Control groups were immersed in artificial saliva fo 6 days within 144 hours. Treatment groups were immersed in red wine for 4 days within 96 hours, followed by immersion in artificial saliva for 2 days within 48 hours. Color measurements were measured using vita easyshade V. Results: The ANOVA Two Way results showed that there were significant color change (p<0,05). Conclusion: There is an effect of immersion red wine on the color stability of one shade composite resin.

Abstract

Background: Fixed retainer are a practical retention method because they require minimal cooperation from the patient. Fixed reteiner are made from various types of wire, one of which is nickel titanium. However, when using a fixed retention device, several problems arise, such as fracture of the wire, loss of bond between the surface of the wire and composite, failure of attachment of the composite to the teeth, and unexpected tooth movement. Objective: To determine the shape memory and superelastic properties of nickel titanium wire with dimensions of  0.010 x 0.030 inches used as a retention device after a three point bending test.  Method: This research is a laboratory experimental study using 5 samples of nickel-titanium wire measuring 0.010 x 0.030 inches. The wire length is 30 mm. The collected data was then tested using a tested. Results: Nickel titanium wire measuring 0.010 x 0.030 inches with a deflection of 1.5 mm shows a graph with a smaller hysteresis than a deflection of 2 mm with a wider hysteresis. Nickel-titanium wire measuring 0.010 x 0.030 inches with a deflection of 1.5 mm and 2 mm shows that the wire experiences permanent deformation before returning to its initial shape, which could be due to the amount of deflection applied exceeding the tensile yield strength range limit of the wire. Conclusion: The amount of deflection given to the nickeltitanium wire samples is 1,5  mm and 2 mm influences the amount of force released. The deflection of a given wire determines how much force can be generated when the wire is applied.
