Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of having mathematical communication skills in the material of a two-variable linear equation system. This study aims to describe mathematical communication skills and determine the factors that affect the mathematical communication skills of eighth grade students of SMPN 3 Maniamolo on SPLDV material. This research uses qualitative research with descriptive research approach. The informants of this research were students of class VIII of SMPN 3 Maniamolo as many as 37 students. The data were analyzed by the steps of data collection, data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The research instrument used was a test of students' mathematical communication skills and interviews. The research findings show that: (1) in general, the communication skills of class VIII SMPN 3 Maniamolo students are in the medium category, there are 4 students (10.81%) in the high category, 22 students (59.46%) moderate, and 11 students (29 ,73%) in the low category. The percentage of students' communication skills on each indicator, namely, Written Text (33.00%), Drawing (36.41%), and Mathematical Expressions (14.44%). (2) Factors that influence students' mathematical communication skills are: students' interest in learning mathematics, basic knowledge of mathematics, mastery and understanding of students' concepts of material, activeness of students in learning mathematics and teachers. Through this research, the researcher suggests that students' mathematical communication skills should be further improved by practicing math problems related to mathematical communication.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low ability of students’ mathematical connection in the transformation material. This study aims to describe students’ mathematical connection abilities, especially in the transformation material. This research uses qualitative research with descriptive research approach. The informants of this study were students of class XI SMK Negeri 1 Lahusa totaling 20 students. The data were analyzed by the steps of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The research instrument used was a test of students’ mathematical connection abilities with interviews. Based on the results of the research and discussion, the researchers concluded that class XI sudents of SMK Negeri 1 Lahusa have mathematical connection abilities in the low category. The findings of the study showed that: students did not understand the concept of transformation, students did not understand the relationship between the concept transformation and other mathematical topics, such as linear equations of one variable and staright line equations, students were unable to find the relationship between transformation completion procedures and other mathematical materials, and students were unable to apply concepts in everyday life and in other fields of science. This is because students do not understand the problem, students are confused in choosing the right completion procedure, and the lack of accuracy of students in performing mathematical calculation operations so that calculation errors often occur. Through this research, it is suggested that students mathematical connection abilities be further improved by in creasing regular practice on questions related to mathematical connections

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low ability of students to understand mathematical concepts. This study aims to 1) describe students' ability to understand mathematical concepts on SPLTV material, 2) describe students' difficulties in completing tests of students' ability to understand mathematical concepts on SPLTV material. This research uses qualitative research with descriptive research approach. The number of informants in this study were 15 people. The data were analyzed by data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The technique of collecting research data is through an ability test for understanding mathematical concepts and interviews. The research findings obtained (1) students are not able to present SPLTV concepts or definitions, (2) students are not able to distinguish systems of equations that are included in SPLTV and not included in SPLTV, (3) students are not able to present SPLTV concepts in various forms of mathematical representation, especially formulating equations. or create a mathematical model, (4) students have difficulty developing the adequacy of the data or information contained in the problem to be able to solve the problem, (5) students have difficulty using or choosing the settlement procedure used in SPLTV such as the elimination method and the substitution method, (6) students are not able to apply the SPLTV concept in solving contextual problems. So it can be concluded that the students' ability to understand mathematical concepts is still relatively low. Through this research, it is suggested that every mathematics teacher can further develop students' ability to understand mathematical concepts. In addition, students are expected not to rely on rote memorization, but prioritize understanding the concept of SPLTV material so that they can apply the concept in various situations.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low ability of students’ mathematical reasoning on the material of sequences and series. This study aims to describe the ability of mathematical reasoning, especially qualitative in the material of sequences and series. This study uses students’ research type with a descriptive research approach. The informants of this research were students of class XI SMK Negeri 1 Toma totaling 12 students. The data were analyzed by the steps of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The research instrument used was a test of students’ mathematical reasoning abilities with interviews. Based on the results of the research and discussion, the researcher concluded that class XI students of SMK Negeri 1 Toma had mathematical reasoning abilities in the low category. The research finding show that students are not able to perform mathematical manipulation; students are not able to draw conlussions, compile evidence, provide reasons or evidence for the correctness of the solution; students are not able to draw coclusions from statements; and students are not able to find patterns or properties of mathematical phenomena to make generalizations. Through this study, it is suggested that students’ mathematical reasoning abilities be further improved by increasing the number of exercises related to mathematical reasoning

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low mathematical problem solving ability of students. This study aims to 1) describe students' mathematical problem solving abilities on social arithmetic material, 2) describe students' difficulties in solving students' mathematical problem solving abilities on social arithmetic materials. This research uses qualitative research with descriptive research methods. Informants in this study were all students of class VII-A, totaling 17 people. The data were analyzed by the steps of data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The research data collection technique used was a mathematical problem solving ability test and interviews. The results showed that there were still students who had not been able to identify the known data and the data asked in the questions, students had not been able to formulate problems or develop mathematical models, students had not been able to apply strategies in solving social arithmetic problems and students had not been able to interpret or present the final results. which is obtained. So it can be concluded that students' mathematical problem solving ability is still low and students still have difficulty in solving problems related to social arithmetic problems. This is because, students still do not understand the problem and how to formulate or compile a mathematical model of contextual problems. Furthermore, students are still not able to apply the strategies used in solving problems. Researchers suggest that teachers of mathematics subjects pay more attention to the development of students' abilities in solving mathematical problems and students are accustomed to solving problem solving problems.

Abstract

Concept understanding ability is the ability to deeply understand a concept by empowering logical, critical, creative, and inovative minds and being able to account for a concept. Types of qualitative research with a descriptive approach to describe students’ ability to understand mathematical concepts on the material of rank and root forms in class XI SMA Negeri 1 Ulususua. The subject of this study were 14 students who had studied the material with exponents and root forms before. The data collection technique used in this study was the provision of tests and interviews. The result of research and discusion that have been carried out by researchers on each indicator by optaining a percentage can be concluded as follows. 1) Restate a concept 46,72%. 2) Classifying certain object according to their nature 51,78%. 3) Providing examples and not exsamples and not examples of a concept 34,55%. 4) Presenting concept in various forms of mathematical representation 33,98%. 5) Developig necessary or sufficient conditions of a concept 19,34%. 6) Using and itilizing and selecting certain procedures or operations 19,63%. 7) applying concepts or algorithms in problem solving 13,39%. It can be concluded that students understanding of mathematical concepts is still low ini understanding question related to the material of rank and root forms, describing the flow of solutions and problems and aplying the concepts of rankand root form correctly. Researchers suggest that teachers should pay attetion to the ability to understand students’ different concepts. Different so that it can provide a more detailed explanation for students who do not understand the material being taught and this research should be used as comparison material for futher researchers.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui seberapa besar kesulitan mahasiswa dalam perkuliahan dan faktor-faktor penyebab kesulitan mahasiswa dalam perkuliahan di program studi pendidikan matematika. Penelitian ini menggunakan jenis penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif. Populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh mahasiwa yang aktif pada program studi pendidikan matematika. Data dianalisa dengan langkah-langkah reduksi data, penyajian data dan menarik kesimpulan. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan adalah lembar observasi dan lembar wawancara. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) kesulitan yang dialami mahasiswa yaitu kesulitan memahami setiap prosedur menyelesaikan soal-soal pada matematika, konsep, prosedur atau prinsip pengerjaan soal-soal pada matematika (2) faktor penyebab kesulitan mahasiswa belajar matematika yaitu faktor motivasi yang kurang dari mahasiswa akibat kurangnya pelayanan yang dilakukan oleh dosen dalam mengajar.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh pentingnya pemilikan kemampuan komunikasi matematis pada materi sistem persamaan linear dua variabel.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kemampuan komunikasi matematis serta mengetahui faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa kelas VIII SMPN 3 Maniamolo pada materi SPLDV. Penelitian ini menggunakan jenis penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan penelitian deskriptif.Informan penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII SMPN 3 Maniamolo yaitu sebanyak 37 orang siswa.Data dianalisis dengan langkah-langkah pengumpulan data, reduksi data, penyajian data dan penarikan kesimpulan.Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan adalah tes kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa dan wawancara. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) secara umum kemampuan komunikasi siswa kelas VIII SMPN 3 Maniamolo berada pada kategori sedang, terdapat 4 siswa (10,81%) berkategori tinggi, 22 siswa (59,46%) sedang, dan 11 siswa (29,73%) berkategori rendah.Adapun persentase kemampuan komunikasi siswa pada setiap indikator yaitu, Written Text (33,00%), Drawing (36,41%), dan Mathematical Expressions (14,44%). (2) Faktor yang mempengaruhi kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa ialah: minat siswa belajar matematika, pengetahuan dasar terhadap matematika, penguasaan dan pemahaman konsep siswa terhadap materi, keaktifan siswa belajar matematika serta guru. Melalui penelitian ini, peneliti menyarankan agar kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa lebih ditingkatkan lagidengan berlatih mengerjakan soal-soal matematika yang berkaitan dengan komunikasi matematis.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh rendahnya kemampuan koneksi matematika siswa pada materi transformasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kemampuan koneksi matematika siswa khususnya pada materi transformasi. Penelitian ini menggunakan jenis penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan penelitian deskriptif. Informan penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas XI SMK Negeri 1 Lahusa berjumlah 20 orang siswa. Data dianalisis dengan langkah-langkah pengumpulan data, reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Instrument penelitian yang digunakan adalah tes kemampuan koneksi matematika siswa dengan wawancara. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dan pembahasan peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa siswa kelas XI SMK Negeri 1 Lahusa memiliki kemampuan koneksi matematika dalam kategori rendah. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: siswa tidak memahami konsep transformasi, siswa tidak memahami hubungan konsep transformasi denga topik matematika lainnya misalnya persamaan linear satu variabel dan persamaan garis lurus, siswa tidak mampu mencari hubungan prosedur penyelesaian transformasi dengan materi matematika lainnya, dan siswa tidak mampu menerapkan konsep matematika dalam kehidupan sehari-hari maupun dalam bidang ilmu lain. Hal ini dikarenakan siswa tidak memahami soal, siswa bingung dalam memilih prosedur penyelesaian yang tepat, dan kurangnya ketelitian siswa dalam melakukan operasi perhitungan matematika sehingga sering terjadi kesalahan perhitungan. Melalui penelitian ini, disarankan agar kemampuan koneksi matematika siswa lebih ditingkatkan lagi dengan cara memperbanyak latihan secara rutin mengerjakan soal-soal yang berhubungan dengan koneksi matematika.
