Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of the discovery learning model based on contextual teaching and learning on the mathematical problem solving abilities of class VIII students at SMP Negeri 2 Ulususua for the 2022/2023 academic year. This type of research is quantitative, descriptive in nature. The population of this research is class VIII students while the research sample is Negeri 2 Ulususua. This research data was analyzed using a homogeneity test and hypothesis testing using the SPSS application. The results of this research are that there is an influence of the discovery learning model based on contextual teaching and learning on the mathematical problem solving abilities of class VIII students at SMP Negeri 2 Ulususua for the 2022/2023 academic year. That in the control class and experimental class it can be said that more students have completed learning using the discovery learning learning model based on contextual teaching and learning compared to the learning outcomes of students using the conventional learning model and while participating in learning activities using the discovery learning learning model based on contextual teaching and learning. students understand better as seen in the final test for the experimental class with student learning outcomes. Researchers suggest (1) that teachers should use this learning model in learning activities because it makes students diligent and think more critically in learning as well as the attraction gained from studying mathematics. (2) Future researchers should carry out this research with a broader scope.

Abstract

This study aims to describe and identify the factors contributing to the low understanding of mathematical concepts related to fractions among students. This research is qualitative in nature with a descriptive approach. The informants in this study are 18 eighth-grade students from SMP Negeri 2 Mazino. Data were analyzed through the steps of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The data collection techniques used are tests and interviews. The results show that, overall, students exhibit low understanding of concepts when distinguishing between two fractions, with 18% categorized as very poor. In classifying fractions by type, the percentage is 19% in the very poor category. For ordering fractions from smallest to largest, the percentage is 37%, categorized as poor. In simplifying addition and subtraction operations involving fractions, 22% fall into the poor category. Additionally, in relating everyday life to fraction concepts, the percentage is 60%, categorized as sufficient, while 20% fall into the very poor category. Factors influencing this include a lack of understanding of the statements in the tests, not comprehending the questions posed, being less meticulous in understanding simple fractions, and difficulty in interpreting word problems related to fraction operations. In conclusion, eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Mazino demonstrate low understanding in completing tests on fractions. It is recommended that teachers create a question-and-answer space in their lesson plans to enhance students' conceptual understanding when working with fractions.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the application of local wisdom-based mathematics education through learning strategies using the traditional game Hombo Batu. Local wisdom is considered a valuable resource for enriching the learning process and enhancing students' understanding of mathematical concepts. Through this approach, students not only learn theoretically but also connect the material to their daily experiences, which increases their motivation and engagement. The results of the literature review indicate that Hombo Batu can serve as an interactive learning medium, supporting the development of social skills and strengthening students' cultural identity. Although there are challenges in its implementation, such as a lack of training for teachers and limited resources, recommendations for integrating local wisdom into the mathematics education curriculum can help create more meaningful learning experiences. This study is expected to provide insights for the development of more relevant and effective teaching methods in the educational context.

Abstract

The research was motivated by the lack of students' creative thinking abilities and independent learning in solving story problems on SPLDV material. The aim of this research is to describe: (1) Students' thinking abilities in solving story problems in class VIII SPLDV material at SMP Negeri 4 Maniamolo, (2) Students' learning independence in solving story problems in class VIII SPLDV material at SMP Negeri 4 Maniamolo. This type of research is qualitative research with a descriptive approach. The subjects in this research were 25 class VIII students of SMP Negeri 4 Maniamolo. Data collection was carried out using tests, questionnaires and interviews. The data was analyzed in stages, namely data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The research results show that the ability to think creatively in solving story problems on SPLDV material is classified as poor, namely the very good category at 8%, the good category at 16%, the fair category at 28%, the poor category at 36% and the poor category at 12%. The research results show that learning independence in solving story problems on SPLDV material is classified as moderate, namely the high category at 8%, the medium category at 56% and the low category at 36%. So it can be concluded that students' creative thinking abilities are more dominant in the sufficient category and students' learning independence is also still dominant in the moderate category. The suggestions put forward in this research are that it is hoped that students will be able to develop their level of thinking to be more active and have more practice solving math problems related to SPLDV material, and teachers should be able to develop students' creative thinking abilities and increase students' learning independence in solving story problems on SPLDV material.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and develop mathematics learning strategies that support moral education based on the values of Pancasila. Using a qualitative approach, the research involves mathematics teachers from several elementary and secondary schools to explore effective methods for integrating Pancasila values into mathematics instruction. The findings indicate that learning strategies, including contextual learning, collaborative projects, and reflective discussions, can enhance students' understanding of mathematical concepts while also strengthening their character. Additionally, the study identifies challenges in implementing these strategies, including time constraints and a lack of training for teachers. It is hoped that these findings can serve as a reference for developing more effective educational practices in integrating moral values into mathematics learning.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to describe students' abilities in using mathematical induction in Class XI at SMK Negeri 1 O’o’u. This study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. The subjects of this research are 35 students from Class XI SMK Negeri 1 O’o’u. Data were analyzed through steps including data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The data collection techniques used were tests and interviews. The results show that out of 35 students, 2 students fall into the very good category, 11 students into the good category, 9 students into the sufficient category, 6 students into the poor category, and 7 students into the very poor category. Thus, it can be concluded that students' ability to use the mathematical induction proof method is categorized as good, with a percentage of 31.42%. Based on these findings, the researcher suggests that students should deepen their understanding of the proof method and practice mathematical induction problems intensively, enabling them to solve various mathematical induction problems accurately.

Abstract

The aim of the research is to determine the relationship between learning motivation and the mathematical problem-solving ability of seventh-grade students at SMPN 1 Susua. The research approach is quantitative with a correlational research type. The population of this study consists of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Susua, totaling 20 students, and the sampling technique used is total sampling. The instruments used are a mathematical problem-solving ability test and a questionnaire. Based on the research results, the value of tcount = 2.485813, was obtained, and to determine the ttable value with a 5% significance level, the value of rtable= 2.100922, was obtained. Therefore, since tcount = 2.485813 > ttable = 2.100922, it can be concluded that there is a relationship between motivation and mathematical problem-solving ability of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Susua, with the level of correlation falling into the moderate category. Therefore, the researcher suggests that (1) students should have good learning motivation to achieve good mathematical problem-solving ability, (2) teachers should further develop good learning motivation to improve students' mathematical problem-solving ability, and (3) this study should be used as a comparison for future researchers and as a reference.

Abstract

This research aims to develop a module focused on lines and angles to enhance students' contextual skills. The study employs a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the 4D model (define, design, development, disseminate), with data collected through validation, questionnaires, and tests, analyzed both qualitatively and quantitatively. Based on the findings, the lines and angles module is proven to be valid, practical, and effective. Subject matter experts rated it as valid (75%), media experts also rated it valid (74.07%), and language experts rated it as very valid (75%). In limited class trials, practicality was rated very high (average 4.57), and similarly high in field trials (average 4.43). Effectiveness in improving learning outcomes was moderately good in limited class trials (average 0.65) and field trials (average 0.68). The developed module is intended to support independent learning among students and assist teachers in effectively teaching mathematics.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a contextual mathematics learning method using the market as a learning medium in Telukdalam. The main focus of the research is to enhance students' abilities in calculating prices and money within local trade. Through this approach, students not only learn basic mathematical concepts but also relate them to real-life situations they encounter in their daily lives. A literature review method is employed to examine relevant literature on contextual mathematics learning and the importance of social interaction in the learning process. The results indicate that learning experiences in the market can enhance students' motivation and understanding of mathematical material. Additionally, this learning approach enriches local social and cultural values, leading students to appreciate their environment and traditions more. It is hoped that the findings of this study will contribute to the development of a more relevant and contextual mathematics curriculum.
