Abstract

The development of vapor compression refrigeration systems currently depends on the issue of environmental problems related to ozone layer depletion (ODP) and global warming potential (GWP). In addition to environmental issues, low energy use is also in the spotlight of researchers. To solve the problem of refrigeration development, natural refrigeration, especially hydrocarbons, is the focus of attention. Hydrocarbons are refrigerants that have excellent properties to be natural refrigerants. This study aims to compare the performance of refrigerant R-134a with R-290. The research used a standard vapor compression refrigeration system with a TEV-type expansion valve. The system performance is seen through compression, refrigeration effect, and COP with variations in compressor rotational speed of 1000 rpm, 1500 rpm, and 2000 rpm. The results showed that the compression work, refrigeration effect, and coefficient of performance (COP) of R-290 had a more excellent value. R-290 produces the highest compression work at a 2000 rpm compressor speed of 33.34 kJ/kg for the refrigeration effect at 1000 rpm of 353.33 kJ/kg and COP at 1500 rpm 12.32.

Abstract

Day in day out of human life the use of metal is inevitable, metals are needed for different purposes such as in construction of bridges houses, roads etc. but despite the availability of huge amount of metal, it does not meet the global demand thus this paper investigate the effect of reduction of power of heat loss on the cost of production of electric arc furnace. In order to achieve maximum precision during production, getting product at relatively reduced price has remained a major challenge to the scientists. The experiment was conducted at industrial scale whereby power of heat loss was varied from 7.707- 4.624 MW while energy consumption fell from 0.5463 to 0.5317 MW-Hour per ton and productivity q tremendously increased from 253.0 ton to 254.0 ton per hour . Data used were collected from active furnace in Zerepaves Metallurgical plant, Russia and further analyzed with software package for accuracy

Abstract

This study focuses on developing a prototype for a seawater desalination system powered by solarpanel. The desalination process is heated by a solar collector and 150 WP solar panel. The primaryobjective is to design, develop, and evaluate the prototype's efficacy, affordability, and scalability.The efficiency was measured by the quantity of freshwater produced per unit of solar energy. Ofthe three distillation tests, it was determined that the addition of a heater enhanced theperformance of the system. However, the overall efficiency was limited due to the solar panel andcollector's low heat output. A positive correlation was observed between irradiance andtemperature, but incomplete evaporation indicated the need for additional research to optimizethe process. The system consisted of a solar collector, a heater, and a distillation apparatus. Threedistillation tests revealed that the addition of a heater improved the system's performance,resulting in a maximum achievable efficiency of 0.99% and the production of 16 ml of fresh water.This study demonstrates the potential for renewable energy sources to power seawaterdesalination and lays the groundwork for future sustainable desalination technologies despite itslimitations.

Abstract

An increase in the number of vehicles today will result in an increase in fuel oil consumption and emission pollution. Therefore, it is necessary to optimize for fuel oil economy and emission reduction by improving engine performance. Improving engine performance can be done through several factors, including; with compression ratio, volumetric efficiency and fuel quality. The purpose of this study is to prove that with the addition of ozone (O3) the combustion process will be more reactive than oxygen (O2) so that it can produce faster and more complete combustion, This study will convert oxygen (O2) into more reactive ozone (O3) by using a 15 g/h plasma plasma generator ozone installed on an air filter. Engine performance testing includes engine power and torque using a 50L super dyno type dynamometer chassis. The test results showed, with ozone generator engine torque increased from 0 – 0.5 Nm and increased engine power from 0 – 0.4 KW compared to without using an ozone generator. Abstract

Papertech Indonesia merupakan pabrik kertas daur ulang (recycled paper) dengan memproduksi beberapa jenis kertas seperti Chip Board, Super Chipboard, Core A dan Core B. Bahan baku utama dalam produksi adalah Old Corugated Container (OCC) dan Mix Waste (MW). Dalam memenuhi kebutuhan produksi, selama 12 hari perusahaan harus menyediakan bahan baku utama sebanyak 360.000 kg yang dipenuhi oleh empat supplier. Dalam pengelolaanya timbul permasalahan berkaitan dengan belum optimalnya performa supplier yang mengakibatkan ketidaktepatan jumlah bahan baku yang dipasok ke perusahaan dan sering terjadi keterlambatan pengiriman bahan baku. Permasalahan yang lain adalah belum adanya standar kriteria kualitas bahan baku dan standar harga yang ditetapkan oleh perusahaan sehingga kualitas bahan baku tidak terjamin. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memilih supplier bahan baku kertas terbaik dengan menggunakan model kriteria quality, cost, delivery, flexibility, resposiveness dan membuat model e-supply chain management untuk mempermudah pemilihan supplier secara otomatis. Hasil studi pustaka dan brainstorming dengan perusahaan menghasilkan lima kriteria dan dua belas subkriteria yang dipertimbangkan dalam menentukan supplier terbaik di PT Papertech Indonesia. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) untuk menghitung skala rasio dan bobot masing-masing kriteria dan subkriteria dari supplier. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa supplier Sawah Besar menjadi prioritas pertama dalam pemilihan supplier dengan bobot 0.4483, disusul supplier UD Sregep dengan bobot 0.2123, kemudian supplier Cahyo Kertas dengan bobot 0.2084 dan yang terakhir adalah supplier Fada Indonesia dengan bobot 0.1320. Hasil pembobotan AHP digunakan untuk mendesain model e-supply management. Dengan model pengembangan E-SCM dapat memudahkan bagian purchasing dalam pembelian bahan baku.

Abstract

Usaha pembuatan gerabah di Dusun Klipoh, Desa Karanganyar, Borobudur, Magelang terus dipertahankan bukan semata mata dari sisi ekonominya, akan tetapi lebih dari sisi tradisi, budaya, dan edukasi. Namun demikian pengerjaan yang dilakukan dengan cara-cara yang sangat tradisional dengan menggunakan peralatan ala kadarnya tentu berpotensi terhadap resiko Kesehatan mereka, meskipun cara-cara tersebut lebih mengedapankan cara-cara orisinalitas para pendahulunya. Kajian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis tingkat kenyamana pekerja yang umumnya dilakukan oleh pekerja wanita dengan usia yang sudah rentan. Metode yang digunakan pada kajian ini menggunakan pendekatan Nordic Body Mapping untk mengetahui tingkat severity dan frekwensinya serta menggunakan pendekan QEC maupun OWAS untuk mengukur sikap kerja mereka terkait dengan potensi WMSDs, serta menggunakan %CLV untuk menilai tingkat berat ringannya beban pekerjaan. Hasil yang diperoleh dalam kajian ini menunjukkan bahwa peta keluhan dengan menggunakan NBM tersrbar pada bagian Leher, Bahu, punggung dan kaki. Sedang untuk penilaian sikap kerjanya. Berdasarkan jenis pekerjaan yang mereka lakukan, terdapat10 postur kerja yang dianalisis dengan OWAS, ditemukan (10%) postur kerja yang termasuk level 1, (50%) postur kerja yang termasuk level 2 dan (30%) postur kerja yang termasuk level 3. Postur kerja yang termasuk kategori level 3 terjadi pada proses 1 tahapan proses 2 dan proses 3 tahapan proses 1 dan 2. Berdasarkan kuisioner QEC terdapat (10%) termasuk kategori level 1, (80%) termasuk kategori level 3 dan (10%) termasuk kategori level 4. Sedangkan hasil perhitungan %CVL menunjukkan bahwa tidak terjadi kelelahan pada para pekerja karena nilai dibawah 30%, sehingga tidak memerlukan tindakana apa-apa. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian yang dilakukan, dapat disimpulkan bahwa metode kerja para perajin memerlukan perhatian dan tidakan perbaikan segera. Namun demikian dilihat dari beban kerja yang dilakukan tidak menunjukkan tingkat beban kerja yang berat.

Abstract

Understanding what is obtainable from a PV-based solar power system is key to proper sizing of the system. The parameters that are important are the time range available for energy delivery from the panel, time at maximum charging current and the available charging current. To determine these parameters, this work sets up a complete PV-based solar system that was interfaced with National Instrument myDAQ (NI myDAQ) and LABVIEW program for data collection for a specific period of time. The collection periods were nineteen (19) days which cuts across days in September to November. The data collected are the time stamps, charging current and battery voltage. The study outcome reveals that the average time range for the delivery of energy from the solar module for those periods are 7:24 am to 5:31 pm. The average time at maximum charging current is 12:32 pm. The maximum charging current recorded is 0.509 A, which is 89.3 percent of the panel’s current at maximum power.

Abstract

Vapour absorption is an attractive method of utilizing low grade energy directly for cooling. This work attempts to develop a kerosene-powered vapour absorption refrigerator for domestic refrigeration applications. It is designed to comprise five major components: evaporator, absorber, generator, pump and condenser and their capacities were determined to be 80W, 350W, 180W, 20W and 90W respectively. The refrigerator is a medium-size one and is designed for domestic purposes only. It uses ammonia and water as primary and secondary working fluids. Parts were designed, fabricated and assembled accordingly. Finally, the performance test was carried out and the refrigerator was able to achieve an evaporative temperature of 7oC and had actual coefficient of performance (COP) of 0.16. It also takes 35 minutes to cool 1litre of water at ambient temperature to 0oC. The operating temperature of the refrigerator is between 7oC to 43oC. General energy equation of the refrigerator gave 875.237KJ.

Abstract

Small Press Machine Line A in the Stamping & Tools Division of PT. Mekar Armada Jaya produces car and body parts as effectively as possible to increase productivity. However, the performance of the machine and the maintenance system that is carried out is not comprehensive on aspects of the Small Press Machine and takes a long time, causing high machine downtime, this affects the smooth running of the production process. Therefore, measuring effectiveness uses Method the Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), Six Big Losses and Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA). Research results for January 2021 – December 2022, namely the A1 Machine is 82%, the A2 Machine is 76% and the A3 Machine is 58%. The loss factor of the three machines is caused by Equipment Failure Loss (equipment damage loss). The results of the analysis using the FMEA method show that the failures that often occur in the three machines include the engine having an over stroke, the work method is due to the visual check method, and the engine has been repaired by an AIDA technician. So, it is suggested that in order to increase the effectiveness of the Small Press Line A machine, the Stamping & Tools Division should apply FMEA method to look for components or processes that have failed, whether humans, machines, work methods, or materials.

Abstract

The current development of vehicle transmission technology aims to reduce vehicle energy consumption by increasing its performance. Continuously variable transmission (CVT) is an automatic transmission system that is often used in vehicles today. Meanwhile, replacing CVT rollers and springs can affect transmission efficiency, fuel consumption, and overall vehicle performance. So this research aims to explore the impact of replacing roller and spring components on the CVT on engine performance and confirmed by changes in CVT temperature. This research was carried out using a metic motorcycle, by measuring the performance values of the motorcycle in the form of vehicle torque and power using a dynamometer, apart from that the CVT temperature was also measured. The research results show the potential for increasing Torque and Power by using increased roller mass and spring constants. Apart from that, there is an increase in CVT temperature due to the use of an increased spring constant, this shows the potential for wear.
