Abstract

This study examines the Sufistic interpretation of the verses on the levels of the soul (nafs) in Tafsīr al-Mīzān by Muḥammad Ḥusayn Ṭabāṭabā’ī. The study is motivated by ongoing debates regarding Shi'a Quranic exegesis, which is often considered doctrinally biased, despite the moderate and philosophical characteristics of Tafsīr al-Mīzān. The research aims to analyze Ṭabāṭabā’ī's interpretation of the levels of the soul and to identify its Sufistic dimensions. This research employs a qualitative library research approach using descriptive and content analysis methods. The primary source is Tafsīr al-Mīzān, while secondary sources include classical and contemporary works on Quranic exegesis, Sufism, and related scholarly studies. The findings reveal that Ṭabāṭabā’ī interprets the levels of the soul nafs al-ammārah, nafs al-lawwāmah, nafs al-muṭma'innah, and nafs al-zakiyyah through a balanced synthesis of textual evidence, rational analysis, and spiritual insight. His interpretation emphasizes self-purification, divine guidance, repentance, and spiritual perfection while avoiding excessive sectarian tendencies. The study concludes that Tafsīr al-Mīzān offers a comprehensive and moderate Sufistic interpretation that remains relevant for contemporary Quranic studies and Islamic spiritual development.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the ongoing debate regarding the relationship between Islam and nationalism, particularly the assumption that nationalism is a secular concept originating from the West and therefore incompatible with Islamic teachings. The study aims to analyze the concept of Muslim nationalism from the perspective of the Quran through the interpretation of relevant verses in Tafsir Al-Mishbah by M. Quraish Shihab. This research employs a qualitative library research approach using thematic (maudhu'i) Quranic interpretation. The primary data consist of the Qur'an and Tafsir Al-Mishbah, while secondary data are drawn from scholarly books, journal articles, and related literature. Data were collected through documentation and analyzed descriptively and interpretatively. The findings reveal that although the term "nationalism" is not explicitly mentioned in the Quran, its essential values are embedded in Islamic teachings, including unity, love for the homeland, justice, tolerance, obedience to legitimate authority, and respect for ethnic and cultural diversity. Quraish Shihab interprets these values as the foundation of a comprehensive concept of nationalism that promotes national solidarity without fostering hostility toward other nations. In conclusion, the Quran provides a strong moral and theological foundation for Muslim nationalism, demonstrating that patriotism and national commitment are compatible with Islamic principles and contribute to social harmony and national unity.

Abstract

The rapid development of globalization and modernization has contributed to the erosion of moral and religious values in society, highlighting the need for educational media capable of integrating Islamic Religious Education with local wisdom. The novel Inyiak Sang Pejuang by Khairul Jasmi represents a literary work that harmoniously combines Islamic teachings with Minangkabau culture through the philosophy of Adat Basandi Syarak, Syarak Basandi Kitabullah. This study aims to analyze the integration of Islamic Religious Education values and local wisdom contained in the novel as an alternative culture-based learning resource. The study employed a qualitative approach using library research. Primary data were obtained from the novel Inyiak Sang Pejuang, while secondary data were collected from books, scientific journals, and other relevant literature. Data were gathered through documentation techniques and analyzed using content analysis. The findings reveal that the novel integrates the values of aqidah (faith), ibadah (worship), and akhlaq (morality) with Minangkabau local wisdom, including the traditions of surau, deliberation and consensus, mutual cooperation, migration (merantau), and respect for religious scholars and parents. These findings demonstrate that Minangkabau culture is harmonious with Islamic teachings and contributes to strengthening religious character, social values, and cultural identity. Therefore, Inyiak Sang Pejuang is a relevant learning resource for Islamic Religious Education based on local wisdom and character education.

Abstract

This study aims to conduct an in-depth analysis of the implementation of sustainable business strategies that balance spiritual and material dimensions to achieve operational stability. The research method used is qualitative, employing an exploratory case study approach to examine the dynamics of Islamic business ethics within a pesantren-based microfinance ecosystem. Data collection was conducted comprehensively through in-depth interviews with central administrators, managers, field officers, and clients, as well as participatory observation and document analysis. Data analysis employed an interactive model encompassing data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and the drawing of conclusions and verification. The validity of the findings was ensured through data validation techniques, specifically source triangulation and methodological triangulation. The research results indicate that the Ausath Blokagung Sharia-Based Savings and Loan Unit (USPPS) has successfully implemented the “Religious Stimuli-Based Koppontren” model. This model is implemented through five tactical steps: integrating the cultural identity of the Islamic boarding school into the employees’ work ethic; strict oversight of Sharia compliance by the supervisory board; a Relationship Marketing policy grounded in the values of worship; a profit-sharing scheme that accommodates fluctuations in customer income; and periodic spiritual education for the community of micro-entrepreneurs surrounding the boarding school. This study provides new theoretical insights for the contemporary literature on Islamic business management regarding the importance of religious incentives in strengthening customer loyalty, while also serving as a practical guide for Islamic microfinance institutions in optimizing material profitability without compromising the pillars of Islamic spirituality.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the practice of hire purchase for official vehicles by local governments from the perspective of Islamic commercial law (fiqh muamalah) and to examine its social impacts. The hire purchase system is a contemporary practice not recognized in classical Islamic jurisprudence, which only identifies separate contracts of ijarah (leasing) and bai’ (sale). In practice, government employees are treated as lessees until the final payment is made, after which ownership of the vehicle is transferred. This research employs a library-based approach using inductive, deductive, and comparative methods. The findings indicate that combining ijarah and bai’ contracts into a single agreement contradicts Islamic legal principles due to ambiguities in rights and obligations. Although similar to al-Ijarah al-Muntahiya bit-Tamlik, the current practice violates the structural requirement of separating contracts. Socially, this mechanism generates jealousy, bureaucratic inequality, and decreased public trust in the fairness of public service facilities. The study recommends restructuring the mechanism to align with Islamic legal principles and social justice values. Future researchers are encouraged to explore alternative Sharia-compliant models for state asset procurement that emphasize transparency, equity, and social acceptance, particularly within the context of public bureaucracy in Indonesia.
