Abstract

Good condition of environmental work will support workers in performing operations maximally. Factors e.g. temperature, noise, and vibration have contribution in increasing psychological distress and affect to worker’s performance. PR Rezeki Abadi is a cigarette manufacturer which utilizes manual power of workers for establishing production in the whole flow process, starting from mixing materials (tobacco, sauce, and clove) until finishing. In accordance with measurement results, temperature and noise of environmental condition in mixing process workplace is higher than normal level so operators in this workplace get high psychological distress and often do mistakes in terms of mixing process. This research aims to develop environmental work condition particularly in the mixing material workplace and measure mental workload by using SWAT in order to find out the influence of environmental work development. Based on the development of environmental work condition through additional blower and use of earplug, it is obtained that temperature and noise intensity emerge in proper level with normal condition at 25–27°C and 75dB. The result of workload measurement using SWAT method shows that workload in average is under 40 so in other words the workload after development can be categorized as low level.

Abstract

In this paper, we consider a joint economic lot size (JELS) model consisting of single vendor single buyerwith single product. We intend to study the impact of defective items and controllable production rate onthe model. The demand in buyer side is assumed to be stochastic. The delivery of lot from vendor to buyer is conducted under equal size shipment and the lead time is assumed to be constant. The defective items founded by the inspector in buyer side are carried in buyer’s storage until the next shipment and will be returned to the vendor. The goal of the proposed model is to determine optimal delivery frequency, review period and production rate by minimizing the joint total cost. A sensitivity analysis is performed to show the impact of the changes of the decision variables on model’s behavior. The result from the sensitivity analysis shows that the joint total cost is sensitive to the changes of defect rate, demand uncertainty and demand rate.

Abstract

PT Fajar Indah is an automotive company which is one of their flagship products is muffler for Colt Diesel FE 120 PS. During 2012 and 2013, PT Fajar Indah was able to produced muffler up to 2400 unit with 6-7% defects rate. There are five type of defects that affects muffler’s quality which are lid’s defects, ring’s defects, defects of resonator’s size, defects of plate’s cutting size, and defects of broken plate. To determine whether improvements are needed in muffler’s prodution process and how they will be conducted so six sigma will be used for analysis. Analysis was conducted using DMAIC process, where recommended action for quality improvement were determined with RCA and FMEA. Result from analysis shows that PT Fajar Indah had 12,879 DPMO value and 3.73 sigma which mean that improvement is needed in muffler’s production process. Some recommended actions that can be done are maintenance scheduling, making work instruction and supervise it, improving storage method for ring’s model, provide place for plate scraps from cutting process, adding more workesr for products inspection, and looking for suppliers who are able to provide plate with standard quality.

Abstract

This study purposed the optimization of gaultherin production from “gandapura” by inactivating the gaultherase enzyme, including gaultherin productivity and process parameters. This research applied the combination processes of extraction-dryer, simultanously. The productivity of gaultherin was improved by adding the drying agent, such as magnesium sulfate, sodium sulfate, calcium chloride, and calcium sulfate. The optimization was conducted using a factorial design 2n. Dependent variables determined by calculating the main effects and interactions, following by the application of probability plots. During the research, the content of gaultherin, methyl salicylate, salicylic acid were measured by using a spectrophotometer and HPLC-MS. The results shows that the higher concentration of drying agent (especially calcium chloride) and ethanol, increased the content of gaultherin. However, the most influenced factor to this conducted process was pH, regarding to the concentration of ethanol. During extraction, the higher the pH, increased the active compound of gaultherin. The optimum condition of enzyme inactivation was found at pH 8 with the content of gaultherin at 14.46%. The higher the solvent concentration of ethanol, the higher content of gaultherin can be extracted. The maximum process condition regarding to ethanol concentration found at 90% with active compound concentration at 13.10%.
