Abstract

This study examined the types and meanings of Numerous similes in Olivia Rodrigo's album Guts song lyrics. Similes, which create direct comparisons between two things using words like "like" or "as," were used to enhance emotional expression and bring vivid imagery to the lyrics. Using methods of qualitative, the examined every song to find instances of similes, classify them according to their type, and decipher the meanings using Dancygier and Sweetser's (2014) simile theory and Griffiths' (2006) meaning of Theory. The data was also interpreted using Spardley's methodology, which includes domain, taxonomic, componential, and cultural theme analysis. Twenty-two similes were found in the study, comprising ten examples with a broad scope and twelve with a limited scope. Additionally, it found three instances of utterance meaning and 19 instances of sender's meaning, indicating that sender's meaning and limited-scope similes was more prevalent in the album.

Abstract

Analyzing the impact of the roundtable technique on students' reading abilities was the aim of the study. Quasi-experimental methodology was employed. This study was carried out at MTs Nurul Qarnain Sukowono Jember in the eighth grade. The researchers separated the 64 students into two classes—32 for the experimental class and 36 for the control class—because the population included at least 128 pupils. Roundtable instruction was used in the experimental class, but it was not used in the control classroom. According to the study's findings, students' reading skills improved better when the roundtable technique was used. Its foundation lies in the statistical hypothesis that the p-value, also known as sig (2-tailed) = 0.000, was less than the sig α 0.05. In summary, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. Thus, it was demonstrated that the roundtable technique had a considerable and positive impact on eighth-grade MT students' reading abilities. Jember Nurul Qarnain Sukowono

Abstract

Given the dearth of resources for teaching and learning about alphabet comprehension, the goal of this project was to create instructional gaming applications for kindergarten children using Android applications. Research and development (R&D) was done for this project. Students from RA Darul Hidayah in Kangean Sumenep, East Java, served as the study's subjects. Research procedures included developing a media product, getting expert validation, testing the product, and having a teacher evaluate it. Steps for testing the product were twice. Fifteen students participated in the first tryout, while sixteen students participated in the second. Expert validation of the creation of educational game applications led to the conclusion that testing was highly appropriate. Based on the findings of two tests, it was determined that this product was extremely appropriate for implementation. The first test produced a total result of 665 with an 88% percentage, classifying it as very proper, and the second test produced 750 with a 93% percentage, also classifying it as very proper.

Abstract

This research investigated the effect of applied webtoon application on students’ seventh-grade reading skills in SMPN 2 Rogojampi Banyuwangi. A quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design was used to conduct this research. The population was 65 students of seventh grade divided into two classes. The samples were taken by Solvin formula, consisting of 28 students in an experimental class (VIIA) and 28 in a control class (VIIB) by simple random sampling. The instrument for collecting data was a pre-test and post-test in the form of 10 questions of blank word test. The test carried out normality, homogeneity, and t-test. The value of descriptive analysis was a rising value in which the mean of the post-test experimental class (85,71) was higher than the post-test control class (77,50). Furthermore, the value of the t-test with sig. (2 tailed) 0,000. In this matter, 0,000 < 0,05. In other words, H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted. It indicates that the score between the experimental and control classes was different after the applied treatment. which means the webtoon application (X) has a significant effect on students’ reading skills (Y) in seventh grade in SMPN 2 Rogojampi Banyuwangi. The result of the research showed that using the webtoon application affected the student’s reading skills.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to gather empirical proof that tongue twisters significantly affect students' speaking abilities and pronunciation. This study employed a quantitative methodology and a quasi-experimental research design. This study was carried out at SMP NAA Alasbuluh-Wongsorejo-Banyuwangi in the eighth grade. The experimental class (38 students) and the control class (41 students) were the two groups in the researcher's basic random sampling technique. The researcher employed a tongue twister test as the tool for data collection, and the students' speaking and pronunciation on the pre-test and post-test were scored using a speaking and pronunciation scoring rubric. The experimental class's post-test mean score, as determined by the t-test calculations, was 80.68, whereas the control class's was 50.65. In the statistical hypothesis test, robserved (0.958) was greater than rtable (0.2213) at the 5% significance level. It indicates that the null hypothesis was rejected and the alternative the hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. It was demonstrated that the tongue twister approach affects eighth-grade students' speaking and pronunciation at SMP NAA Alasbuluh-Banyuwangi

Abstract

Developing one's public speaking skills was  necessary. And, podcasts can be used as a medium for practicing public speaking. In particular, podcasts were a popular form of media among Indonesians. This study adopted the mixed-method approach. The participants of this study were the students from the English for Public Speaking class (BIC06), a combined class from three majors, which were  Psychology, System Information, and English studies at UBM. There were 34 participants, consisting of 15 females and 19 males. The research was started by conducting a pretest. Then, the researchers gave treatment related to podcast production and supporting ideas. Afterward, the participants produced podcasts as their post-tests. The participants' pre-test and post-test were analyzed based on a scoring rubric by a rater. Finally, the writers conducted a semi-structured interview. The results showed that the student's public speaking abilities are progressing from Average to good to Good to excellent. Also, this study supports the idea that students' confidence, fluency, and pronunciation improved when they produced podcasts as part of their public speaking exercises. In terms of accuracy, the complete data set helped them to have a flowing conversation, which resulted in fluency. The conversational podcast format is credited with the increase in score. Last, despite providing a safe space, podcast projects also resulted in giving the students a too comfortable environment as they presented ideas among friends.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of information and communication technology (ICT) has significantly transformed the educational landscape, particularly in the implementation of e-learning systems. This study aims to develop an integrated e-learning system to support Informatics learning at the senior high school level, with a case study at SMA Negeri 8 Malang. The need for this development stems from the limited use of interactive digital platforms in current teaching practices, particularly for subjects requiring problem-solving and computational thinking such as Informatics. The research adopts a Research and Development (R&D) method, utilizing the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). Data were collected through observations, interviews, and questionnaires involving teachers, students, and IT staff. The results indicate that the developed e-learning system enhances student engagement, supports independent learning, and facilitates the integration of project-based and experiential learning approaches. The study also highlights challenges in infrastructure and human resources, including the need for continuous teacher training and technical support. This research contributes to the growing body of knowledge in digital education and provides practical recommendations for implementing effective e-learning systems in secondary schools.

Abstract

Reading was often considered as a passive skill, while in fact, reading requires the learners to actively read and understand the text by relating to their former knowledge. This pre-experimental study aimed to measure how effective Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) on students’ reading comprehension of of ELT department. TOEFL Reading Comprehension test was used as the instrument to collect the data from the pre-test and post-test score. The resulted of the non-parametric test of Wilcoxon test showed that there was no improvement after the CLT approach was implemented (the p-value is higher than 0.05 indicating that there was no significant effect). Some factors might determine the effectiveness include the student’s readiness in understanding English, and the inappropriate approach to teach reading skill that requires more on accuracy rather than fluency.
