Abstract

Mild anemia is one of the most common complications during pregnancy and remains a major public health concern because it increases the risk of adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes. A continuity of care approach provides comprehensive and integrated healthcare from pregnancy to postpartum and family planning, enabling early detection and appropriate management of pregnancy-related complications. This study aimed to describe the implementation of continuity of care in the management of mild anemia during pregnancy. A descriptive case study was conducted at PBM Rimenda Br. Tarigan, Medan Denai District, North Sumatra, Indonesia, in 2026. The subject was a 32-year-old pregnant woman (G3P2A0) at 28 weeks of gestation with mild anemia (hemoglobin level of 10 g/dL). Data were collected through interviews, observations, physical examinations, supporting examinations, and documentation using the SOAP approach. Continuity of care was provided throughout pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum, newborn care, and family planning. Interventions included nutritional counseling, iron supplementation education, routine antenatal monitoring, normal childbirth assistance, postpartum and neonatal care, breastfeeding support, and family planning counseling. Following the intervention, the maternal hemoglobin level increased to 11 g/dL before delivery. Both maternal and neonatal outcomes were favorable, with no complications observed throughout the continuum of care. These findings suggest that continuity of care may contribute to improved maternal health, successful management of mild anemia, and positive maternal and neonatal outcomes.

Abstract

Childhood tuberculosis (TB) remains a major public health problem in Indonesia, particularly in East Java Province. This study aimed to identify factors associated with childhood TB cases to support effective disease prevention and control. Since the number of TB cases represents count data that may exhibit overdispersion, Generalized Poisson Regression (GPR) was employed as an appropriate analytical approach. This ecological study used secondary data from 38 districts and municipalities in East Java Province, Indonesia, in 2024, obtained from the East Java Provincial Health Office. Multicollinearity was assessed using the Variance Inflation Factor (VIF). Because overdispersion was detected in the Poisson regression model, the analysis was subsequently performed using Generalized Poisson Regression. The final GPR model included the percentage of the population reporting health complaints, the average number of cigarettes smoked per week, the percentage of households with access to improved sanitation, the percentage of households with access to safe drinking water, the number of healthcare workers, and the number of healthcare facilities as explanatory variables. Model evaluation yielded an Akaike Information Criterion (AIC) value of 457.46 and an Adjusted R² value of 0.9813, indicating that the model explained 98.13% of the variation in childhood TB cases. These findings demonstrate that Generalized Poisson Regression is an appropriate method for modeling overdispersed childhood TB count data and provides useful evidence to strengthen tuberculosis surveillance and support targeted public health interventions for childhood TB control in East Java Province.

Abstract

Borderline Intellectual Functioning (BIF) in adolescents is often associated with difficulties in social functioning and the ability to provide adaptive emotional responses, which may affect their adjustment processes within the school environment. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) in improving social relationships and emotional responses among junior high school students with BIF. This study employed a quantitative approach using a one-group pretest–posttest experimental design. Participants were junior high school students with BIF characteristics who received a skills-based DBT intervention consisting of mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness components. Data were collected using social relationship and emotional response instruments administered before and after the intervention. The data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test to examine differences in scores before and after the intervention. The results showed a significant improvement in social relationships and emotional responses following the DBT intervention. These findings indicate that DBT has the potential to serve as a skills-based intervention approach that supports the improvement of psychosocial functioning among students with BIF through strengthening interpersonal abilities and developing more adaptive emotional responses. This study provides implications for the development of school-based psychological services aimed at supporting the mental health of adolescents with developmental needs.

Abstract

Background: Curcumin has demonstrated antimycobacterial, immunomodulatory, formulation-enhancing, and hepatoprotective properties, yet evidence regarding its potential role in tuberculosis remains fragmented, particularly for drug-resistant disease. Objective: This scoping review aimed to map the extent, characteristics, mechanisms, formulations, safety findings, and translational stage of curcumin-based interventions for tuberculosis, with drug-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis as a prespecified subfocus. Methods: Following JBI methodology and PRISMA-ScR and PRISMA-S guidance, PubMed, Scopus, Europe PMC, and ScienceDirect were searched on 3 August 2026 without date or country restrictions. Eligible primary reports evaluated curcumin, curcuminoids, composition-characterized Curcuma longa extracts, synthetic analogues or complexes, formulations, or combinations in microbiological, cellular, animal, pharmacokinetic, safety, ex vivo, or human tuberculosis-related contexts. Screening and full-text eligibility were independently verified by a second reviewer, with discrepancies resolved by consensus. Results: Of 504 records identified, 153 duplicates were removed, 351 unique records were screened, 45 full texts were assessed, and 38 reports published between 2001 and 2026 were included. Direct antimycobacterial activity was reported in 24 studies, safety or toxicity in 23, host-directed mechanisms in 13, treatment combination or toxicity contexts in 12, formulation or delivery in nine, and drug-resistant M. tuberculosis in five. Synthetic derivatives or metal complexes represented the largest intervention category. Several nanoformulations improved intracellular delivery or activity, but no therapeutic clinical efficacy trial was identified. Conclusion: Curcumin-based interventions show biologically plausible preclinical potential, but evidence remains heterogeneous and insufficient for established therapeutic use in tuberculosis. Further standardized resistant-isolate testing, pharmacokinetic evaluation, animal validation, and early-phase clinical studies are needed before translation.
