Abstract

Hemostasis is the body’s mechanism to stop bleeding during an injury. The recalcification period examination is a specific hematological examination of blood clotting disorders to look for deficiency of clotting factors from the intrinsic pathway (Factors V, VIII, IX, X, XI, and XII), prothrombin and fibrinogen. According to the standard operating procedure (SOP), the examination of the recalcification period of the citrate blood centrifuge is 20 minutes at a speed of 3000 rpm. Based on the facts in the field, samples were taken simultaneously, and several different examinations were carried out so that when the centrifuge was carried out, it was not by the SOP. So that there can be an error in the production of the examined citrate plasma. The study aimed to determine the effect of centrifuge time variation on the value of the recalcification period. The research method uses a quantitative approach, experimental research, and a cross-sectional research design. The sampling technique is Accidental Sampling, using nine samples from 9 patients with 3 treatments. The results of the data normality test with the Shapiro-Wilk test from the test results carried out can be seen in 3 data groups; from the data obtained, there is one abnormal treatment. So, the Kruskal-Wallis Test was continued, and the Kruskal-Wallis test was non-parametric. The conclusion obtained from the study is that there is an influence on the recalcification period.

Abstract

The Neutrophil-to-Lymphocyte Ratio (NLR) is a biomarker closely associated with systemic inflammation, particularly in conditions like central obesity. Given that central obesity leads to increased NLR, which in turn raises the risk of metabolic syndrome, including cardiovascular disease, conducting this study is deemed highly necessary, especially in regions with a high prevalence of central obesity, such as Gorontalo City, Indonesia. This study was designed as a cross-sectional analysis. A total of 100 respondents, categorized as Central Obese (CO) and Non-Central Obese (Non-CO), were evaluated for their NLR. Obesity categories were assessed based on the Asia-Pacific criteria. Statistical analysis revealed significant differences in NLR between those with and without central obesity, for both men and women (with p-values of 0.020 and 0.004, respectively). Overall, the findings suggest that NLR is significantly higher in individuals with central obesity compared to those without. Future studies should focus on assessing the correlation between NLR and other metabolic disease risk factors.

Abstract

Hypertension is a progressive cardiovascular disease with a rising global prevalence. While patient adherence is a critical determinant of therapeutic success, maintaining consistent compliance remains a significant challenge in primary healthcare. Objective: This study aims to analyze the influence of Drug Information Services (DIS) on the medication compliance levels of hypertension patients at the Paleleh Barat District Health Center. Methods: A quantitative descriptive study with a correlational design was conducted involving 174 hypertensive patients selected through purposeful sampling. Data were collected using validated structured questionnaires. Statistical analysis was performed using univariate and bivariate methods, specifically simple linear regression. Results: Descriptive analysis revealed that DIS was predominantly rated as "Good" (98.9%), and patient compliance was largely categorized as "High" (75.9%). However, the linear regression analysis yielded a significance value of p = 0.440 (p > 0.05). Conclusion: The findings indicate that Drug Information Services do not have a statistically significant direct effect on medication compliance at this facility. The lack of statistical significance is likely attributed to data homogeneity and the 'ceiling effect,' suggesting that adherence in this rural context is driven by external factors such as family support and intrinsic patient motivation.

Abstract

Hypertension is a chronic condition that significantly increases the risk of cardiovascular and metabolic complications. Impaired blood glucose regulation is a common complication, making fasting blood glucose (FBG) monitoring essential for early detection of metabolic disorders, particularly diabetes mellitus. Objective: This study aims to describe the profile of FBG levels among hypertensive patients at Toto Kabila Regional General Hospital. Methods: A quantitative descriptive study with a cross-sectional approach was conducted between July and August 2025. A sample of 27 hypertensive patients was selected using a purposive sampling technique. FBG levels were measured using the Point of Care Testing (POCT) method. Results: The findings revealed that out of 27 patients, 10 individuals (37%) had normal FBG levels (70–126 mg/dL), while 17 individuals (63%) exhibited abnormal levels (<70 or >126 mg/dL). The mean FBG value was 228.52 mg/dL, indicating a high prevalence of hyperglycemia in the study population. Conclusion: The majority of hypertensive patients at Toto Kabila Regional General Hospital have abnormal fasting blood glucose levels. These results provide critical baseline data for healthcare providers to implement early prevention and management strategies for metabolic complications in hypertensive patients.

Abstract

Sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L.) is a tuber with many advantages compared to other tubers and is the fourth-largest source of carbohydrates in Indonesia, after rice, corn, and cassava. The high carbohydrate content of sweet potatoes makes them a good source of calories. The carbohydrate content in sweet potatoes is low on the glycemic index, meaning it does not significantly raise blood sugar levels when consumed. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of steamed purple sweet potato on blood glucose levels in students. This research is an analytical experimental study with a quantitative approach using a one-group pretest-posttest design. The population and sample in this study consist of students, with a sample size of 35 respondents. The data used are primary and secondary, sourced from blood glucose tests conducted before and after the administration of steamed purple sweet potato. The data analysis includes univariate and bivariate analyses, descriptive tests, and the Wilcoxon rank test. Based on the research results, it was shown that the p-value = <.001 (p < 0.05), therefore (H0 is rejected), which means there is an effect of consuming steamed purple sweet potatoes on blood sugar levels in students. Steamed purple sweet potatoes tend not to significantly raise blood glucose levels in students due to their low glycemic index and high fiber content, which helps slow sugar absorption. However, excessive consumption can increase blood sugar levels due to the residual sugar.
