Abstract

The implementation of differentiated instruction in the learning process at Islamic primary schools (Madrasah Ibtidaiyah) has become an issue that deserves particular attention. This study aims to describe the results of an analysis of the implementation of differentiated instruction in the learning process at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah based on student learning outcome standards. The study employed a qualitative approach using the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method. The analysis was grounded in Arthur Combs’ humanistic theory. Research data were collected through documentation techniques, and the research instrument consisted of 10 scientific articles focusing on differentiated instruction in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah. To facilitate the identification of relevant articles, the researchers used the Publish or Perish application with Google Scholar as the data source. The findings indicate that differentiated instruction has been widely implemented and promoted by various stakeholders. However, a crucial aspect of this approach is often overlooked, namely response. This refers to the reciprocal expectations between teachers and students, specifically responses that align with students’ individual conditions and characteristics. An important issue for further discussion is the type of responses teachers receive from students when various instructional innovations are introduced. The more positive and appropriate the students’ responses are, the easier it becomes to implement differentiated instruction effectively.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze reflective thinking skills in relation to science (IPA) comprehension in problem-solving among fifth-grade elementary school students. The background of the study is the students' low ability to connect science concepts with real-life experiences, as well as the lack of habitual reflection during the learning process. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, with data collected through questionnaires, interviews, and observations. The research subjects included students and teachers from three elementary schools in Surabaya: SDN Babatan, SDN Karangpilang, and SDN Wonocolo. The findings indicate that students’ reflective thinking skills are at a moderate level. Students who actively engage in hands-on practice and group discussions tend to demonstrate stronger reflective thinking. However, several obstacles were identified, such as low interest in reading, limited teacher strategies for implementing reflective learning, and the diversity of student characteristics that influence their learning responses. Therefore, science learning should adopt a more contextual, participatory, and experience-based approach to support the development of students' reflective thinking skills effectively

Abstract

The 21st century learning paradigm demands an educational approach that emphasizes the development of high-level thinking skills, one of which is critical thinking. This skill is important to be instilled early on because it helps students analyze information, evaluate arguments, and make decisions logically. However, in reality, many elementary school students, especially grade V, still have difficulty applying critical thinking, especially in the Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) subject. The main purpose of writing this article is to provide a deeper understanding of the level of critical thinking skills of grade V elementary school students in the Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) subject. In addition, this article also aims to identify various factors that influence students' critical thinking skills, both from internal and external aspects of the students. The method used is descriptive qualitative research with data collection techniques through interviews, literature studies, and distributing questionnaires to students. The results of this study indicate that elementary school students' critical thinking skills in IPAS learning are still at a low to moderate level. This is indicated by students' difficulties in identifying problems, analyzing information, evaluating opinions, compiling logical arguments, understanding scientific concepts in depth, conveying structured opinions, and drawing conclusions based on evidence.
