Abstract

This study aims to explain dialogical hermeneutics, one of the scientific paradigms that can bridge the confusion of thinking in explaining the relationship between literature and reality/history. The material object used is Fiction and History of Dialogue, while the formal object is the dialogical hermeneutic paradigm in the book. The purpose of this study is to describe the basic assumptions; model; and the concepts that make up dialogic hermeneutics. The theoretical framework and method used as the basis for the analysis are Thomas Khun's thoughts related to paradigms. The results of the research show that Fiction and Dialogue History books criticize in discussing fiction which is dominated by mimetic and semiotic concepts as well as history which is seen as something that is often contrasted with fiction. Junus offers an alternative idea in the form of dialogue (hermeneutics) as a new way of looking at the relationship between fiction and history/reality. Junus uses an analogy model to see the relationship between fiction and history/reality. The concepts put forward include the Concept of Definition of Fiction; The Nature of Reality in Stories; Fiction and Heurmenetics; Fiction Shapes Reality; Perspective of Fiction and Reality of Writers and Readers; and Fiction and History.

Abstract

Democracy that has lasted so far is not only understood as an effort to build a better government system but is also intended as an effort to create citizen participation in building a good political and governance system. But in reality, it does not produce a sense of security, peace, order and social order. This paper is intended to look at the phenomenon of democracy, especially election practices, not only from a political and power perspective, but also to see how elections actually create social disharmony in the Yogyakarta city community. This paper is based on one argument, namely: that democracy is intended to build a more open, just, peaceful and prosperous society that does not work properly because the understanding and practices of democracy that have been practiced so far have actually led to increased resistance and social disharmony. This paper uses a qualitative analytical method with data sourced from direct observation and from local newspapers. From this research it was found that (1) social conflict in villages, especially in Yogyakarta is getting higher and social resistance is increasing; (2) Community grouping, and segregation tend to be based on religious and political affiliations; and village gangs (3) Villages that used to be administratively separated, were instead claimed as the village of certain groups which referred to certain religious-based groups or parties. From this paper it can be concluded that the conflicts that occurred in the city of Yogyakarta during the 2019 presidential election were more caused by village-based sentiments and solidarity of certain parties and groups rather than conflicts between elites.

Abstract

The process of recovering when experiencing disasters and crises is often considered an individualised process. The Covid-19 pandemic in the past two years has had a major impact on various sectors of the world, and the most affected is tourism. Many studies on pandemic conditions and tourism have been conducted with a focus on the impact of the pandemic. For this reason, it is necessary to look back at the resilience process carried out by tourism actors and the tourism community in dealing with the pandemic. Yogyakarta, especially Kaliurang, is the most affected area due to the pandemic. This study attempts to invite a revisit of tourism resilience in Kaliurang. Ethnography is used to capture the resilience efforts made by the community and tourism actors in Kaliurang. The research shows a change in community structure and agency development at the individual and group levels. Both structure and agency simultaneously help the process of community resilience, which is then developed into resilience in the tourism sector.

Abstract

This study discusses the continuity of the Kebon Agung Sugar Factory from the crisis period in 1930 until it was nationalized in 1960. The economic crisis that hit Europe and the world had an impact on the collapse of most of the sugar industries in the Dutch East Indies. Kebun Agung Sugar Factory managed to survive in the midst of a global crisis that began towards the end of 1929. Throughout that period, various crises hit the world and Indonesia such as economic, social, and political crises. This research uses historical methods with the following stages; topic selection, heuristics, interpretation, data analysis, and historiography. The results showed that the Kebon Agung sugar factory was part of the history of the sugar industry in the colonial period which contributed to the increase in sugar production in the Dutch East Indies. This sugar factory was able to survive the crisis that accompanied its history because of its efficiency strategy, production reduction, and cooperation with other sugar factories in terms of utilizing pre-existing infrastructure such as no longer building railways and roads for the transportation of raw materials (sugarcane) to the factory. In the midst of the crisis and the threat of bankruptcy, the Kebon Agung Sugar Factory still survived and continued to carry out production activities until the sugar factory was nationalized in 1958. Thus, the Kebun Agung Sugar Factory also recorded its history by contributing to efforts improve the state economy.

Abstract

Using women's bodies in product marketing advertisements is nothing new. The female body is deliberately presented as a marketing strategy. In practice, it is not uncommon for women to be categorized into three trinities, namely, girl, wife, and entertainer. What's worse, this is justified and reproduced by various media. The Gadis Kretek novel is a literary work that juxtaposes the female body with cigarette advertisements. This research was conducted to uncover how women's bodies are selected, used, and displayed for marketing activities of cigarette products that are attached to men by society and become a symbol of masculinity. The method that will be used as a data analysis tool is Norman Fairclough's critical discourse analysis, which focuses on aspects of linguistic practice, discursive practice, and social practice. The results of this study indicate that in product promotion, the female body is used as a desire production machine that will attract potential buyers. Women in ad frames are also categorized based on the Girl-Wife-Entertainer trinity, where the three of them have their own identities but are still presented as complements to men. From this research, it can be seen that literary works also commodify discourses on beauty and the female body. The female body seems to be an affirmation of the construction of masculinity.

Abstract

The Srivijaya Kingdom, in its historical journey, showed a strong commitment to giving more independence to the regions under its control. This meant that these regions could manage their own local matters, taking into account their unique characteristics. This idea played a vital role in boosting the economy and stability of the entire kingdom, making the "kadātuan" system a crucial part of their successful government. The principles of decentralization in Indonesia, based on these historical ideas, have been incorporated into changing laws and regulations, forming a key part of how different areas in Indonesia govern themselves. This paper aims to explore how the concept of local government or decentralization worked in the Srivijaya Kingdom's history. We use a qualitative method that helps us understand complex ideas. By comparing modern decentralization ideas with how the Srivijaya Kingdom managed its decentralization using a "mandala" structure, we see important similarities and connections between the two. The results in this paper show a historical pattern where decentralization were set up and led by a datu. This allowed powers to be shared from the central government to these decentralization regions, which were closely supervised by the central government. This reveals how the idea of decentralization has deep roots in Indonesia's history and is a critical basis for how decentralization works in the country today.

Data collection techniques in this study, namely by using documentation methods and literature studies.
