Abstract

Women view their bodies more negatively than men and this affects their body image. Body image is a person's evaluation of his physical appearance, other people's perceptions of his body, and how his body is adapted to these perceptions. This paper will focus on discussing the arguments about how women's body image affects their consumption culture. The research method used is literature study of secondary data from book sources, online journal articles, and data published on the internet. It was found that the construction of the ideal body in society was shaped by the capitalist popular culture industry and supported by the mass media. This construction creates a standardization of the definition of ideal beauty. Not only that, the patriarchal culture that places women as symbols of beauty that fulfills aesthetic functions in the household also influences their consumption culture. In addition to being the market object of capitalism's products, women are also the main consumers of products that are believed to help increase satisfaction with their body image, such as beauty, fitness, health, and fashion products.

Abstract

Abstract

This study discusses the architecture of Indische buildings at Magelang Town in 1906-1942. This study uses historical research methods consisting of heuristics, source verification, data interpretation and historiography. The entry and development of Indische architecture in Magelang Town coincided with the increasingly intensive colonial government in exploiting natural resources in order to increase commodity exports. This building with Indische architecture in Magelang Town developed from 1906 to 1942 along with the fulfillment of the facilities and needs of the Dutch people who were intensively running the bureaucracy in Magelang Town. The facilities and needs referred to are infrastructure, especially housing, offices, and defense as illustrated in residential buildings, schools, lodging, hospitals, and other public facilities. In 1942, Indische architecture no longer developed in line with the end of Dutch rule in the Dutch East Indies. However, some of the Indische buildings in Magelang Town are still maintained by the community.

Abstract

Motherhood ideology is commonly found in literary works, including narratives depicting the figure of a mother. In literature, especially in Europe, the figure of a mother is mystified and is often associated with the figure of the Virgin Mary. This is closely related to the oppression experienced by women due to the inequality of gender construction produced by society. The novel Chanson Douce by Leila Slimani narrates two mothers with different backgrounds. This study aims to carry out a deconstruction reading, especially on the discourse of motherhood. In interpreting something we are always dominated by dominant hierarchies and superior poles which are considered as "single truth". This single truth can lead to vulnerability to discrimination or service. The deconstruction method used in this study uses the concepts of trace and difference, in readings that lead to the meaning of texts that are "friendly" to the others. The results of this study lead us to new questions regarding the challenges of motherhood in this post-industrial era.

Abstract

This article aimed to identify how violent languages are operated for othering and disciplining the body as an exercise of power over the LGBTIQ groups in Indonesia. The analyzed violent language was taken from a conversation on Twitter that responds to Deddy Corbuzier’s podcast video with the title “TUTORIAL JADI G4Y DI INDO!!= PINDAH KE JERMAN (tonton sblm ngamuk) RAGIL AND FRED”. The issues of violence in language have been arising when the words used by Twitter accounts @cholilnafis, @anasabuabdillah, @mas_po_sanusi, @ridwan2474, @djoesa, @defrizonz, and @samsularifin000 are seen in a particular way in the context of their response to Deddy’s podcast video. This article shows that there is a process of othering and disciplining the body through the choices of words that contain elements of violence. Violent languages are operated to alienate others, as in the concept of “blaming others”. From Lozano and Laurent’s perspective, “blaming others” is accusing minorities under social inappropriateness instead of seeing their own fault. Meanwhile, the process of disciplining the body moves through violent languages that are associated with interpretation of Islamic discourse.

Abstract

Selamatan bayi is a form of gratitude and a prayer request for congratulations for the baby. This study aims to describe the local wisdom of selamatan bayi using an anthropological linguistic approach to the contextual design of Javanese tradition. Data collection refers to the technique of recording, participatory observation, and interviews. The results of this study prove that selamatan bayi has a philosophical meaning based on Javanese cultureThere are seven kinds of selamatan bayi among the Javanese, namely (1) brokohan (birthday greetings), (2) sepasaran (5th birthday celebration), (3) selapanan (35-day baby celebration), (4) telonan (3 months birthday greetings), (5) pitonan (7 months of baby's birth), (6) setahunan (1 year of baby's birth), and (7) aqiqah (selamatan bayi for Javanese Muslims). The local wisdom of Javanese in selamatan bayi can be seen from five things, namely (1) the definition, (2) types, (3) ubarampe ‘equipment’, such as sega ingkung, sega gudangan, bubur abang putih, and so on; (4) the method of implementation, and (5) the development of the times. In every selamatan bayi contains the local wisdom of the Javanese to always maintain a balance between human relationships, the natural environment, and God.

In early 2021, to be precise, in France, a student and student activist experienced sexual aggression by a politician from one of the dominant political parties there. He tried to seek justice by making testimony through his Twitter account. Unexpectedly, his testimony uttered various reactions related to the social reality of society. This article aims to explore and analyze the social context and speech response patterns that represent that context. Multiple stories of netizens' responses to testimonies of sexual violence uploaded by the @TT_Guillaume account that occurred in 2018 became the object of the study of this article. In writing the article, the method used is reading all the responses in the reply section, recording all the answers found. Moreover, the next step is classifying dan analyzing the data found, which is associated with Norman Fairclough's critical discourse analysis theory.
