Abstract

Avocado is a high-value fruit commodity whose cultivation needs to be enhanced, one of which is through grafting to combine the superior traits of two different varieties. This study aims to determine the effect of varieties and different scion lengths on the success of avocado plant grafting. This study was conducted using a factorial randomized block design with two factors. The first factor is the variety, which consists of two levels: Cimpedak variety and Moncok Mentaram variety. The second factor is the scion length, which consists of six levels: 5 cm, 7 cm, 9 cm, 11 cm, 13 cm, and 15 cm. This study demonstrated that scion length had a significant effect on the success of avocado grafting, while varietal differences showed no influence. A scion length of 11 cm was the most effective, yielding the highest survival rate with no scion mortality. The combination of the Moncok Mentaram variety and 11 cm scion length produced optimal results in supporting early plant growth.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of the best inoculant doses and manure doses on the growth and production of edamame soybean plants. This study was conducted at the Makassar Village and Transmigration Community Empowerment Training Center which lasted for three months, from August to October 2024. This study was conducted in the form of a two-factor factorial Randomized Block Design (RBD) experiment. The first factor was the dose of pure culture inoculant with 3 levels, namely 10 grams/kg of seed, 20 grams/kg of seed and 30 grams/kg of seed. While the second factor was the dose of Chicken, Cow and Goat manure with a dose of 6 kg/plot each. Based on the results of the study, the inoculant dose of 20 grams/kg of seed gave a better effect on plant height 14 HST (25.4 cm), plant height 21 HST (38.7 cm), fresh pod weight per plant (90.6 g), fresh pod weight per plot (1.1 kg) and production tons/ha (5.5 tons/ha). Goat manure with a dose of 6 kg/plot gave a good effect on plant height 14 HST (25.5 cm), plant height 21 HST (36.6 cm), fresh weight of pods per plant (80.6 g), fresh weight of root nodules (1.1 g), fresh weight of pods per plot (1.0 kg) and production tons/ha (5.1 tons/ha). Then there was no interaction between the dose of inoculant and various manures used on the growth of edamame soybean production.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate and determine the effectiveness of various plnat extracts in inhibiting the growth of Colletotrichum sp. in vitro. The research was conducted at the Plant Protection Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Islamic University of Makassar. Symptomatic papaya fruits infected by Colletotrichum sp. were collected from Daya Market, Makassar City. The study employed a completely randomized design consisting of a control and four plant extract treatments (betel leaf, papaya leaf, ginger rhizome, and shallot peel), each at a 15% concentration. Observations were carried out by measuring the growth diameter and calculating the inhibition percentage of Colletotrichum sp. colonies. The results showed that all plant extracts were able to inhibit the growth of Colletotrichum sp. in-vitro. Betel leaf extract was the most effective in inhibiting the growth of Colletotrichum sp. with the highest inhibition of 45.22%.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of using several types of rhizome extracts in controlling the fungus Phytophthora palmivora Butler, the causative agent of cacao fruit rot, and to analyze the comparative effects of these extracts in controlling P. palmivora Butler. The research was conducted in the Plant Protection Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Islam Makassar, from February to April 2025. Symptomatic fruit peel samples measuring approximately 1 cm² were collected (5 samples). The symptomatic fruit peels were then isolated and identified. After purification, botanical pesticides were applied using Potato Dextrose Agar (PDA). The research method used was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with five rhizome extract treatments and one control, each replicated four times. The extract concentration used was 2.5%. Data analysis was performed using ANOVA and the BNT test at a 5% significance level. The results showed that all rhizome extracts significantly inhibited the growth of P. palmivora Butler. Red ginger extract showed the highest inhibitory power (100%), followed by fingerroot (93.06%), turmeric (72.74%), temulawak (72.27%), and galangal (60.69%). Red ginger extract is the primary choice, while fingerroot extract can be an effective and environmentally friendly alternative for controlling cacao fruit rot.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of the use of entomopathogenic fungi (Metarhizium sp. and Beauveria bassiana) on the mortality of S. frugiperda in corn and to determine the concentration of entomopathogenic fungi that are more effective on the mortality of S. frugiperda in corn. The research was carried out by the South Sulawesi Food and Horticulture Crop Protection Center, IP3 OPT Wil Biological Agency Laboratory. 5 Pinrang, Jalan Poros Pinrang Rappang km. 12 which lasted for 2 months, from the beginning of February-March 2025. The experiment used a Complete Random Design Scheme consisting of 7 (seven) treatments with 3 (three) replicates. Treatments include P0 (Control without application of entomopathogenic fungi), P1 (Metarhizium sp. with a concentration of 5 grams/500 ml of water), P2 (Metarhizium sp. with a concentration of 7.5 grams/500 ml of water), P3 (Metarhizium sp. with a concentration of 10 grams/500 ml of water), P4 (Beauveria bassiana with a concentration of 5 grams/500 ml of water), P5 (Beauveria bassiana with a concentration of 7.5 grams/500 ml of water), P6 (Beauveria bassiana with a concentration of 10 grams/500 ml of water). The follow-up test uses a True Honest Difference level of 0.05. The results showed that there was an effect of the use of Entomopathogenic Mushrooms on the mortality of S. frugiperda on the concentration of Metarhizium sp, P3 mushrooms showing a better influence on mortality and death rate of S. frugiperda

Abstract

Jeruk siam (Citrus nobilis L.) is one of the most popular horticultural commodities in Indonesia. The growth quality of citrus seedlings is strongly influenced by the composition of the growing media and the appropriate dosage of fertilizer. This study aimed to determine the effect of growing media composition and liquid organic fertilizer dosage on the growth of grafted Citrus nobilis seedlings. The research was conducted from January to April 2025 using a factorial Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with two factors. The first factor was the growing media composition (soil, manure, husk), consisting of K1 = 1:1:1, K2 = 2:1:1, and K3 = 2:2:1. The second factor was the dosage of liquid organic fertilizer: P1 = 10 ml/l, P2 = 15 ml/l, and P3 = 20 ml/l. The results showed that the growing media composition of soil : manure : husk with aratio of 2:1:1 (K2) gave the best growth performance, with an average plant height of 47.44 cm, 23 leaves, stem diameter of 0.63 cm, and root volume of 16.00 ml at 10 weeks after planting. The 15 ml/l dosage of liquid organic fertilizer (P2) also promoted optimal growth with results close to the best media treatment. No significant interaction was found between the media composition and fertilizer dosage on the growth of the grafted Citrus nobilis seedlings.

Abstract

Brown spot disease Alternaria sp. It is a big obstacle because it can reduce the production of tomato plants by 5-78%. This study aims to determine the most effective concentration of moringa leaf extract in inhibiting growth (Alternaria sp.). This research was carried out from November 2024 to March 2025. This study used a complete random design (RAL) consisting of 2.5% moringa leaf extract (P1), 5% moringa leaf extract (P2), moringa leaf extract 7.5% (P3), moringa leaf extract 10% (P4), and Control (P0). The results showed that moringa leaf extract with a concentration of 10% which had a better effect in suppressing the growth of mushrooms (Alternaria sp.).
