Abstract

Hypoglycemia is an emergency condition that can occur suddenly, especially in patients with diabetes mellitus, and may lead to loss of consciousness, seizures, and even death if not treated promptly. Delays in providing first aid are often caused by low levels of community knowledge and preparedness in recognizing the signs and symptoms of hypoglycemia. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the level of knowledge and preparedness of the community regarding first aid for hypoglycemia cases in Basirih Village. This study used a descriptive analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. The study sample consisted of adults in Basirih Village selected using a purposive sampling technique. The variables studied included knowledge level as the independent variable and community preparedness for first aid in hypoglycemia cases as the dependent variable. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability, and then analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis. The results showed that most respondents had a moderate level of knowledge, while community preparedness for providing first aid in hypoglycemia cases was still in the low category. Bivariate analysis indicated a relationship between knowledge level and community preparedness, where respondents with higher knowledge tended to have better preparedness in providing first aid for hypoglycemia cases. In conclusion, there is a relationship between knowledge level and community preparedness in providing first aid for hypoglycemia cases. Therefore, continuous health education efforts through community-based health promotion programs are needed to improve knowledge and preparedness, enabling the community to respond quickly and appropriately to hypoglycemia emergencies.

Abstract

Acute stroke is a medical emergency that requires prompt recognition and immediate management to reduce disability and mortality. However, limited public awareness of stroke signs and symptoms, as well as inadequate initial response, remain major causes of delayed treatment at the community level. This study aimed to develop a community health education model based on health cadres and digital media to improve the community's rapid response to acute stroke. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) design consisting of needs assessment, model development, expert validation, and limited field testing. The study involved health cadres and community members in Kelayan Village selected through purposive sampling. The study variables included model feasibility, community knowledge, and rapid response to acute stroke. Data were collected using validated and reliable questionnaires and observation checklists and were analyzed descriptively. The findings demonstrated that the developed health education model was considered feasible by experts and effectively improved community knowledge regarding the recognition of acute stroke signs and symptoms. In addition, the model enhanced the community's ability to provide an appropriate and timely initial response to suspected acute stroke events compared with the pre-intervention condition. In conclusion, the health cadre- and digital media-based health education model is a feasible and promising innovation for improving community preparedness and rapid response to acute stroke. This model may serve as an alternative community-based health promotion strategy to support early stroke recognition and facilitate timely treatment.
Konsumsi Daun Kelor (Moringa oleifera) dan Kadar Hemoglobin sebagai Faktor Risiko Kejadian Stunting pada Balita: Studi Case-Control: Association of Moringa oleifera Consumption and Hemoglobin Levels with Stunting among Children Under Five: A Case-Control Study Tiasna, Apriani; Permatasari, Dian; Puspitasari, Dian Ika; Mayasari, Najhatin Eka; Ahmaniyah, Ahmaniyah

Abstract

Stunting remains a major public health problem that adversely affects physical growth, cognitive development, and future human capital. The condition is influenced by multiple factors, including hemoglobin status and nutritional intake. Moringa oleifera leaves are a locally available food source rich in protein, iron, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, making them a potential nutritional intervention to support child growth and prevent anemia. This study aimed to analyze the association between Moringa oleifera consumption, hemoglobin level, and stunting among children under five years of age in the working area of Banyuates Primary Health Center, Sampang Regency. A case-control study was conducted involving 80 children under five years of age registered from January to February 2026, consisting of 40 stunted children (case group) and 40 non-stunted children (control group). Participants were selected using purposive sampling. Data on Moringa oleifera consumption were collected using a structured questionnaire, while hemoglobin levels were obtained from primary health center medical records or the Maternal and Child Health (MCH) handbook. Stunting status was determined through height or length measurements using a calibrated microtoise stature meter with an accuracy of 0.1 cm and classified according to the WHO Child Growth Standards. Data were analyzed using the Chi-square test, and the magnitude of the associations was expressed as odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) . Statistical significance was determined at p<0.05. The results demonstrated a significant association between Moringa oleifera consumption and stunting (p<0.001; OR=9.95; 95% CI: 2.87–34.53). Children who did not consume Moringa oleifera were almost ten times more likely to experience stunting than those who consumed it. Hemoglobin level was also significantly associated with stunting (p=0.032; OR=3.37; 95% CI: 1.07–10.61), indicating that anemic children had a higher likelihood of being stunted than non-anemic children. Consumption of  Moringa oleifera and hemoglobin level were significantly associated with stunting among children under five. Promoting the utilization of Moringa oleifera as a nutrient-rich local food and strengthening early anemia screening may contribute to stunting prevention strategies in primary health care settings.
