Abstract

The high risk of maternal and neonatal complications due to prenatal anemia is a major public health problem. Iron deficiency is a leading cause, given that pregnant women's iron needs exceed the average and are often not met through daily dietary intake. Pregnant women in Indonesia still neglect the government-provided iron and folic acid. Partner support encourages prenatal health behaviors and is a dominant influencing factor. This study targeted pregnant women in the Alalak Selatan Community Health Center (Puskesmas) area to examine the relationship between partner support and adherence to iron tablet consumption. Thirty pregnant women in their second and third trimesters were randomly selected in a quantitative cross-sectional correlational study. Data were collected through a partner support and iron tablet adherence questionnaire. Spearman's Rho analysis was applied with a significance threshold of 0.05. Results: 80% of respondents reported a lack of partner support, accompanied by non-adherence to iron tablet use. Very strong. A positive relationship was detected between adherence and partner support (p = 0.000; r = 0.667). Compliance with iron tablet consumption was significantly improved among pregnant women with partner support. Partner involvement can enhance the effectiveness and sustainability of prenatal anemia prevention interventions.

Abstract

Early marriage remains a health and social problem that affects adolescents’ reproductive health, psychological well-being, and prospects. Factors suspected to contribute to this issue include parental support and adolescents’ social behavior. Lack of parental support and negative social interactions may increase the risk of early marriage.  This study used a quantitative, cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 100 female adolescents aged 15–20 years, selected purposively. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed using the Chi-Square test at the 0.05 significance level. Most respondents had good parental support (70%) and positive social behavior (65%). However, the analysis showed no significant relationship between parental support and the incidence of early marriage (p = 0.124), nor between adolescents’ social behavior and early marriage (p = 0.199).  There is no significant relationship between parental support and adolescents’ social behavior and the incidence of early marriage. Nevertheless, these factors still play an important role in shaping adolescents’ behavior, so continuous education and guidance from parents and healthcare providers are needed.

Abstract

Three-month injectable contraception is widely used in Indonesia because it is effective, practical, and safe for breastfeeding mothers. However, it has side effects such as emotional disturbances and weight changes that can lead to discontinuation of use. In Banjarmasin City, the Noradina Anggi Agustin TPMB has a relatively high number of three-monthly injectable contraceptive users. This study aims to describe the mothers' experiences as three-monthly injectable contraceptive users at this location. The study used a descriptive qualitative design. The study was conducted at TPMB Noradina Anggi Agustin from December 2025 to January 2026. Six participants, consisting of five acceptors and one midwife, were selected through purposive sampling. The study variables included perceptions, complaints, support, and barriers. The instruments used were the researcher as the main instrument, a semi-structured interview guide, and a voice recorder. The study showed that users of the 3-monthly injectable contraceptive had a positive perception because it was effective in preventing pregnancy and was practical. The main complaints reported were menstrual irregularities, weight changes, and anxiety. Support from husbands, family, and midwives played a significant role in continued use. Barriers identified included fear of needles and fear of using other methods, such as IUDs and implants. This study shows that the experiences of 3-monthly injectable contraceptive users are influenced by their perceptions of contraceptive benefits, perceived side effects, support from their environment, and barriers to contraceptive use. Ongoing counseling by midwives is needed to help users understand side effects and support continued use of 3-monthly injectable contraceptives.

Abstract

Bullying is a common problem among elementary school students and may negatively affect their psychological well-being and learning process. Interactive education has the potential to improve students' knowledge and awareness regarding bullying prevention. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of interactive education in improving students' knowledge of anti-bullying. A pre-experimental study with a one-group pretest-posttest design was conducted involving 42 sixth-grade students at SD Negeri 1 19 Nopember, Kolaka Regency. The intervention consisted of interactive educational sessions including participatory lectures, group discussions, educational videos, PowerPoint presentations, and anti-bullying posters. Students' knowledge was assessed using a 10-item questionnaire before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed descriptively using mean scores and knowledge-level distribution. The mean knowledge score increased from 6.45 ± 3.21 before the intervention to 7.81 ± 2.80 after the intervention. Following the educational program, 19% of students demonstrated a high level of knowledge, 45% had a moderate level, and 36% remained in the low category. Most students were able to identify the definition and impacts of bullying and recognized the importance of reporting bullying incidents, although some still experienced difficulty distinguishing different types of bullying. Interactive education effectively improved elementary school students' knowledge and awareness regarding bullying prevention. This approach may serve as an effective school-based health promotion strategy to prevent bullying. Establishing a school anti-bullying team or organization is recommended to sustain bullying prevention efforts.

Abstract

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic metabolic condition characterized by insulin resistance and impaired glucose metabolism, leading to elevated blood sugar levels. Effective blood glucose management is essential to prevent serious complications such as cardiovascular disease, renal failure, and neuropathy. This study aimed to investigate the impact of low-impact aerobic exercise on blood glucose levels among T2DM patients. This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test approach. A total of 74 participants were divided into two groups: an intervention group (n=37) that underwent a two-week low-impact aerobic exercise program, and a control group (n=37) that received no intervention. Respondent demographic characteristics included age, gender, education level, and occupation. Blood glucose levels were measured using a standardized digital glucometer. Data were analyzed using paired t-tests and independent t-tests with a significance level of p < 0.05. The results showed a significant decrease in mean blood glucose levels within the intervention group, dropping from 266.27 mg/dL to 173.14 mg/dL (p=0.001). Conversely, the control group showed no significant difference, with blood glucose levels changing from 256.83 mg/dL to 259.22 mg/dL. The independent t-test confirmed a significant difference between the intervention and control groups following the intervention (p=0.001).  In conclusion, low-impact aerobic exercise is effective in reducing blood glucose levels in T2DM patients. Based on these findings, low-intensity physical activity is recommended as a safe and effective non-pharmacological management strategy for diabetes patients to maintain routine glycemic control.

Abstract

The role of routine P2Y12 inhibitor pretreatment before invasive coronary angiography in non–ST-elevation acute coronary syndromes (NSTE-ACS) remains controversial. While early platelet inhibition may theoretically reduce ischemic complications, contemporary invasive strategies and more potent agents raise concerns about excess bleeding when coronary anatomy and revascularization plans are still unknown. A PRISMA guided systematic review was conducted, including randomized controlled trials and prespecified or post hoc analyses evaluating P2Y12 inhibitor pretreatment versus no pretreatment (or deferred initiation after angiography) in adult patients with NSTE-ACS undergoing an invasive strategy. Searches were conducted in PubMed, the Cochrane Library, and ClinicalTrials.gov. Outcomes included major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE), myocardial infarction, all-cause mortality, and major bleeding. Risk of bias was assessed using Cochrane RoB 2. Findings were synthesized narratively due to clinical and methodological heterogeneity. Six studies met inclusion criteria. Five studies directly compared pretreatment versus no pretreatment, primarily driven by the ACCOAST trial and related analyses, and the DUBIUS trial. Across direct comparisons, pretreatment did not reduce ischemic outcomes (MACE, myocardial infarction, or all-cause mortality) but was consistently associated with higher major bleeding risk (TIMI or BARC definitions), including in clinically relevant subgroups such as patients undergoing PCI. Analyses of pretreatment timing did not demonstrate ischemic benefit even with longer intervals before angiography. In invasively managed NSTE-ACS, routine P2Y12 inhibitor pretreatment does not improve ischemic outcomes and increases major bleeding. Evidence supports deferring P2Y12 initiation until coronary anatomy is defined and a revascularization strategy is clear, favoring a selective, individualized approach.

Abstract

The increasing consumption of fast food among adolescents has become an important public health concern due to its association with nutritional problems, particularly overweight and obesity. Fast food is generally high in calories, saturated fat, sugar, and sodium but low in essential nutrients. Combined with inadequate physical activity, these dietary habits may increase the risk of adverse health outcomes. This study aimed to analyze the effect of fast food consumption on nutritional status and physical activity among students. This analytical observational study employed a cross-sectional design. A total of 81 senior high school students were recruited using a total sampling technique. Fast food consumption was assessed using a Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ), physical activity was evaluated using a structured physical activity questionnaire, and nutritional status was determined based on Body Mass Index-for-Age (BMI-for-age). Data were analyzed using the Chi-square test with a significance level of 95% (α=0.05). The results showed that 81.5% of respondents had a low frequency of fast food consumption, while 18.5% frequently consumed fast food. Approximately 45.7% of respondents had normal nutritional status, whereas the remaining participants were classified as underweight, overweight, or obese. Bivariate analysis demonstrated a significant association between fast food consumption and nutritional status (p=0.000). However, no statistically significant association was found between fast food consumption and physical activity (p=0.438). In conclusion, fast food consumption significantly affects adolescents' nutritional status but is not significantly associated with their physical activity. Strengthening school-based nutrition education, promoting balanced dietary habits, and reducing fast food consumption are recommended to prevent nutritional problems among adolescents.

Abstract

Nutritional status among children under two years (baduta) remains a major public health issue, especially during the First 1000 Days of Life. Inappropriate complementary feeding (MP-ASI) may lead to malnutrition and stunting. Maternal knowledge about MP-ASI is an important factor influencing children’s nutritional status. This study aimed to determine the relationship between maternal knowledge of MP-ASI and the nutritional status of children under two years. This study used a descriptive analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. The study population included all children aged 6–24 months recorded at integrated health posts (Posyandu) in the Teluk Lingga Community Health Center area. A total of 88 respondents were selected using Slovin’s formula and stratified random sampling technique. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using univariate and bivariate analysis with the Spearman Rank correlation test. The findings showed a statistically significant relationship between maternal knowledge of MP-ASI and the nutritional status of children under two years, with a p-value of 0.030 (p < 0.05). Good maternal knowledge is associated with better nutritional status in children under two years. Therefore, continuous health education is essential to improve maternal knowledge in order to prevent undernutrition, severe malnutrition, and stunting.

Abstract

Waste management based on the 3R principles (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) in beauty clinics is an important effort to maintain environmental health and prevent the negative impacts of both medical and non-medical waste. The low implementation of proper waste management standards remains a problem influenced by the knowledge level of health workers. This study aims to determine the relationship between the knowledge of health workers and the implementation of 3R-based waste management in beauty clinics in the Banyuwangi area. This study used a descriptive analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 20 respondents were selected using purposive sampling. The research instruments included a knowledge questionnaire and an observation sheet on 3R implementation. Data analysis was performed using the Spearman Rank test.  The results showed that most respondents had good knowledge (70%) and good implementation of 3R practices (60%). Statistical analysis indicated a significant relationship between the knowledge of health workers and the implementation of 3R-based waste management (p-value = 0.021). It can be concluded that the better the knowledge of health workers, the better the implementation of 3R-based waste management in beauty clinics. Continuous education and training are needed to support more optimal and sustainable waste management practices.

Abstract

Uncontrolled population growth may lead to various social and health problems. The Family Planning (FP) program is one of the key strategies to control population growth, including through the use of Intrauterine Devices (IUDs), which are effective and long-acting contraceptive methods. However, the utilization of IUDs in Indonesia remains low, partly due to negative perceptions regarding their side effects. This study aimed to determine the relationship between perceptions of IUD side effects and mothers’ interest in using IUD contraception in the working area of Muara Wahau 1 Community Health Center. This study employed a quantitative correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 56 non-IUD family planning acceptors were selected using accidental sampling. Data were collected using validated and reliable questionnaires measuring perceptions of IUD side effects and interest in IUD use. Data analysis was performed using univariate and bivariate methods with the Chi-Square test at a significance level of 0.05. The results showed that most respondents had negative perceptions of IUD side effects (82.1%) and low interest in using IUD contraception (82.1%). Among respondents with negative perceptions, the majority demonstrated low interest in IUD use (73.2%). The Chi-Square test revealed a p-value of 0.003 (p<0.05), indicating a statistically significant relationship between perceptions of IUD side effects and mothers’ interest in using IUD contraception. In conclusion, negative perceptions regarding IUD side effects are associated with lower maternal interest in adopting IUD contraception. Therefore, educational programs, counseling, and accurate information provided by healthcare professionals are needed to improve positive perceptions and increase the utilization of long-acting contraceptive methods such as IUDs.
