Abstract

This research analyzes how the American Dream is represented and why the depiction of the dream is written as a dream "deferred" in Langston Hughes's poem Harlem and Lorraine Hansberry's play A Raisin in the Sun. Systemic racism and economic limitations have historically prevented many African Americans from achieving the American Dream, their dream in this case being equal opportunity and financial stability. This research uses qualitative methods, based on the Sociology of Literature theory of Rene Wellek and Austin Warren, to analyze how Hughes and Hansberry depict the American dream and the effects of African Americans' challenges in pursuing their aspirations in the 1950s. The result of this study shows that The American Dream for the Younger family includes a decent home, a fulfilling job, and educational opportunities. Mama's desire for a better home reflects the aspirations of African Americans. Despite obstacles, Mama remains resilient, supporting Walter's business ambitions and Beneatha's dream of becoming a doctor. Economic limitations and racial discrimination pose challenges, impacting the family's well-being. Yet, their unity and determination symbolize resilience. Hughes' "Harlem" highlights the consequences of deferred dreams, mirroring the family's struggles. These narratives underscore the importance of perseverance and unity in pursuing the American Dream amidst adversity.

Abstract

The Kampus Mengajar program has become an important initiative to improve the quality of education in Indonesia. This study aims to determine the impact of the Kampus Mengajar Batch 7 program on the literacy and numeracy skills of 8th grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Tuhemberua, North Nias Regency. This study used an experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The 8th grade students consisted of 108 students, so the study population was all 8th grade students, while the sample was only 30 students. The researchers collected data using test techniques, then analyzed the data with descriptive statistics. The results showed that students' literacy and numeracy skills increased significantly after a series of Kampus Mengajar Batch 7 activities were carried out, where the average literacy score increased from 38.17 in the pretest to 55.83 in the posttest, and the numeracy score increased from 16.83 in the pretest to 64.17 in the posttest. This program also provides students with direct community service experience. However, collaboration between students and schools needs to be strengthened to ensure the sustainability of the program. Future research is expected to include more schools and more detailed factors to measure the success of this Teaching Campus program as a whole.

Abstract

The rapid development of the times always demands changes in every sector, including in the scope of government. In running the government system, good public sector governance is needed, where its implementation is further developed through bureaucratic reform, which refers to Presidential Regulation Number 81 of 2010 concerning the Grand Design of Bureaucratic Reform 2010-2025. As one of the government agencies, the implementation of bureaucratic reform is carried out by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, one of which is realized through strengthening performance accountability, which refers to Presidential Regulation Number 29 of 2014 concerning the Performance Accountability System of Government Agencies. The results of the evaluation of the 2015-2022 Government Agency Performance Accountability assessment are always at the predicate of "BB" with a relatively stagnant value between >70-80 according to the 2015-2022 Government Agency Performance Accountability Evaluation Report of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the effectiveness of public sector governance in implementing the Government Agency Performance Accountability System at the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia. The population in this study is the State Civil Apparatus of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, and the sample selection uses non-probability sampling with a purposive sampling technique. The research was carried out qualitatively by adopting Duncan's theory of effectiveness in his book "Organizational Effectiveness," which consists of the dimensions of goal achievement, integration, and adaptation. The results of the study show that public sector governance in the implementation of the Government Agency Performance Accountability System at the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, in general, has been running effectively from the dimension of measuring integration and adaptation, while when viewed from the dimension of measuring the achievement of goals is still not fully running effectively.

This research analyzes the influence of the internal control system (SPI), follow-up recommendations, and regional characteristics on audit opinions. The regional characteristic variables used are regional size and level of prosperity. Hypothesis testing was carried out using the binary logistic regression analysis method with the help of SPSS software. The population in this study is all district governments in Indonesia. The purposive sampling method selected the research sample with a total sample of 270 districts. The study results show that the internal control system negatively affects audit opinions. The follow-up of recommendations and regional sizes positively affect audit opinions. The level of prosperity did not affect the audit opinion. The results of this study show the importance of effective and efficient implementation of SPI, fulfillment of follow-up recommendations, and accountable financial reporting. Further research is suggested to add variables that affect audit opinions and use a sample of all local governments to assess audit opinions more accurately.
