Jurnal Ilmiah Widya Pustaka Pendidikan merupakan jurnal ilmiah akses terbuka dan peer-review yang diterbitkan oleh Jurusan Ilmu Pendidikan, Universitas Mataram. Abstract

This study aims to improve the early reading skills of second grade students of Tegalrejo III Elementary School through the application of the phonetic method. The problem underlying this study is the weak early reading skills of students in lower grades, which is evident from the inability to recognize letters of the alphabet, arrange syllables correctly, and read words without stuttering. The phonetic method was chosen because it emphasizes the introduction of letter sounds systematically and gradually, with the help of visual media such as pictures to associate letter symbols with concrete meanings. This study is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) with the Kemmis and McTaggart model which includes four stages, namely: planning, implementing actions, observation, and reflection. Each stage is carried out sequentially and continuously to improve the learning process. This study involved 27 students in class 2A. The instruments used were observations to record learning activities and tests to measure students' early reading skills. The phonetic method directly helps lower grade students master the basics of reading, such as letter recognition and syllable arrangement, so that their reading results improve significantly. In cycle I, the average achievement of student abilities reached 78% with the category "Developing According to Expectations". Then the researcher designed cycle II where the aspects that experienced the highest increase were the ability to recognize letters (98%) and pronunciation (87%). Students showed active involvement, courage to read in front of the class, and a better understanding of word structure. The classroom atmosphere was also interactive and fun. It can be concluded that the phonetic method is effective as a strategy for learning to read early in elementary school classes, because it is able to foster technical reading skills as well as student learning motivation.

Abstract

Abstrak Kemampuan berpikir kritis adalah salah satu indikator penting untuk menentukan mutu pembelajaran, tetapi beberapa studi mengungkapkan tingkat kemampuan siswa dalam berpikir kritis berada pada golongan rendah. Studi ini termasuk pada jenis penelitian pengembangan yang memiliki tujuan untuk mengembangkan mutu pembelajaran melalui media Quiz Whizzer guna mengasah kemampuan siswa di Sekolah Dasar dalam berpikir kritis. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan observasi, kuesioner, dan lembar evaluasi. Hasil penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa penggunaan media Quiz Whizzer untuk mengembangkan mutu pembelajaran telah berlangsung dengan optimal, sebagaimana terlihat pada keefektifan proses pembelajaran, siswa berpartisipasi aktif dan memberikan respon positif, juga terjadi peningkatan yang bermakna pada keterampilan siswa dalam berpikir kritis sesudah menerapkan media Quiz Whizzer. Studi ini menempatkan media Quiz Whizzer sebagai media pembelajaran yang efisien dan efektif untuk memperkuat keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa melalui pembelajaran IPAS di Sekolah Dasar.

Abstract

Reading ability is one of the basic skills that is very important for elementary school students, because it is the main foundation in understanding various subjects. However, not all students are able to master this skill optimally, so that various reading difficulties arise that can hinder their academic development. This study aims to describe the strategies applied by teachers in overcoming reading difficulties in grade V students at SD Negeri Sejati. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method, which allows researchers to explore in depth the phenomena that occur naturally and contextually. The subject of the study was the grade V teacher, Mrs. Hariyani Diyati who was selected purposively. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and direct observation of classroom learning activities. The results of the study showed that teachers applied various strategies such as individual learning, the use of visual media, and approaches based on active student involvement to improve reading skills. These strategies are adjusted to the characteristics and individual needs of students who experience reading difficulties. The conclusion of this study shows that the application of adaptive and communicative learning strategies by teachers can help reduce reading difficulties and encourage significant improvements in students' literacy skills.

Abstract

Elementary school is a crucial foundation for learning mathematics, especially multiplication operations. A strong conceptual understanding of multiplication is essential so that students do not merely memorize but truly comprehend the meaning behind the operation. However, many students, even in fourth grade, are still struggling to grasp the basic concept of multiplication. This study is a descriptive research with a qualitative approach aimed at identifying and describing students’ difficulties in understanding multiplication operations. Based on interviews with the fourth-grade homeroom teacher of SD Negeri Lemahrubuh, Mrs. Nur Halimah, it was found that many students have not yet mastered multiplication tables, do not understand the conceptual meaning of multiplication, and still rely on manual counting methods such as repeated addition, commonly referred to as the "fence method." Procedural errors are also frequently observed, particularly when solving multi-digit multiplication problems. Although the teacher has applied various teaching strategies—such as using visual aids, concrete media, and finger-counting techniques—the results have not been satisfactory. The findings of this study indicate that more interactive approaches, such as quick math games, motivational systems, and peer tutoring, are more effective in enhancing students’ understanding and learning motivation. This research is expected to contribute to the development of more innovative multiplication teaching methods that align with the characteristics and needs of elementary school students.

Abstract

The focus of learning of first grade elementary school students is a challenge in the learning process, especially in Mathematics subjects that require concentration and early understanding of concepts. This study aims to analyze the factors that influence the focus of learning of first grade elementary school students of Rejodadi. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. The results of the study indicate that the lack of focus on learning is caused by internal factors such as low self-confidence, unstable physical and emotional conditions, and low interest in learning. In addition, external factors such as environmental noise, monotonous learning methods, and student seating positions also affect learning concentration. Questionnaire data shows that interference from peers is a dominant factor. As many as 16 out of 24 students scored below the KKM in Mathematics. These results indicate that lack of focus has a direct impact on students' academic achievement. This study emphasizes the importance of the role of teachers in creating varied, interactive, and conducive learning to improve students' focus and learning outcomes, especially in Mathematics learning in early grades.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the implementation of the SQ3R learning model in improving the ability of grade III elementary school students in solving mathematics problems. By using a qualitative approach and case study design, an in-depth picture of students' perceptions and experiences during the learning process was obtained. The results show that the SQ3R learning strategy helps students understand and analyze problems in a more structured way, thus having an impact on improving their ability to solve problems. This study contributes to the development of innovative and effective learning methods, and can be used as a reference by teachers and researchers in designing learning approaches that support improving students' academic achievement.

Abstract

This research explores how the family environment influences gadget use and its effect on the reading interest of elementary school students. A descriptive qualitative method was employed, utilizing interviews, observation, and documentation as data collection techniques involving both parents and children. Data were gathered through questionnaires distributed to 12 elementary school students. The findings show that parental involvement in managing screen time and controlling digital content significantly contributes to the development of children's reading habits. Families that model reading behavior, provide access to both printed and digital reading resources, and restrict non-educational gadget usage tend to raise children with stronger reading interests. In contrast, unregulated gadget use often leads to screen dependency and detachment from literacy-related activities. This study highlights the need for strong cooperation between families and schools to promote family-centered digital literacy

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan implementasi metode diskusi dan proyek dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia di kelas IV SD Lemahrubuh, dengan fokus pada peningkatan keaktifan, keterlibatan, dan keterampilan literasi siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data berupa wawancara mendalam dan observasi langsung terhadap guru dan aktivitas belajar siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa metode diskusi mampu menciptakan suasana belajar yang interaktif, di mana siswa terlibat secara aktif dalam bertukar pendapat, menyampaikan gagasan, serta membangun pemahaman secara kolaboratif. Sementara itu, penerapan metode proyek memungkinkan siswa untuk belajar secara mandiri dan lebih bermakna melalui aktivitas tugas yang relevan dengan konteks nyata, seperti menyusun laporan atau melakukan presentasi secara berkelompok. Guru memiliki peran sentral sebagai fasilitator yang mengarahkan jalannya diskusi, mengatur komposisi kelompok secara seimbang, serta memastikan setiap siswa mendapatkan peran sesuai kemampuannya. Penggunaan media pembelajaran yang menarik seperti nyanyian dan video juga turut meningkatkan motivasi dan fokus siswa. Secara keseluruhan, implementasi kedua metode ini berdampak positif terhadap peningkatan keterampilan membaca, rasa tanggung jawab, empati, dan kerja sama antarsiswa. Penelitian ini merekomendasikan pengembangan pelatihan bagi guru agar metode diskusi dan proyek dapat diterapkan secara lebih luas pada berbagai jenjang dan mata pelajaran untuk menunjang pembelajaran yang bermakna dan berorientasi pada pengembangan karakter serta keterampilan abad 21.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of the use of learning media on student learning achievement. This study uses a quantitative approach with an experimental method and a one-shot case study design, where the effect of the use of learning media is tested after one treatment. The study population included 25 grade IV A students, while the sample was determined randomly using a random sampling technique. The data were analyzed using a paired sample t-test to see the difference in student achievement before and after treatment. The results showed that the use of learning media had a significant effect on improving student learning achievement, with a significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) <0.000, which is smaller than the significance limit of 0.05. Thus, it can be concluded that learning media effectively helps improve student achievement, showing a strong relationship between its use and learning outcomes. This study provides empirical evidence of the importance of innovation in teaching methods to improve the quality of education.

Abstract

Inquiry-based learning can improve students' cognitive functions, foster their curiosity, and enhance their ability to solve problems and think analytically. This is the finding of the literature analysis conducted. Contemporary educational goals require students to become critical, creative, and independent learners, so the application of this model is very relevant. The use of IBL is highly dependent on the teacher's understanding of the model steps and the students' readiness to follow the investigation process. IBL has great potential to form a generation that is intelligent, resilient, and ready to face real-world challenges if used correctly. It is hoped that this study will help in creating innovative learning methods in elementary schools. Since elementary education, critical thinking skills are one of the important skills in the twentyfirst century. This study explores the use of the inquiry-based learning (IBL) model in science learning in grade V MI Kandang Sapi and evaluates the effect of the IBL model on improving students' critical thinking skills. The IBL model encourages students to actively participate in the learning process through asking questions, investigating, and drawing conclusions based on facts and information. The teacher acts as a facilitator in the learning process, providing initial stimulus and guiding the path of inquiry.
