Abstract

Aluminium was successfully electrodeposited from mixtures of aluminium chloride with two amides and two thioamides. Structure identification by ATR-IR spectroscopy suggested the interaction of   (AlCl2+) species with oxygen, sulfur and nitrogen respectively which influence the cyclovoltammetry behavior of the mixtures. Morphology of electrodeposited aluminium from the protected mixtures by decan layer examined by SEM and EDX showed variable shapes and microsize due to the effect of  variable temperatures (30°C to 60°C) and potentials (-0.6V to -1.6V), this in part is related to mass transport limitation and coordinating ligands.   Keywords: DES, Electro-deposition, Aluminium, AlCl3-amide, AlCl3-thioamide.

Abstract

Objective: Piper retrofractum Vahl. is an Indonesian plant that has several activities such as antibacterial, antifungal, antioxidant, etc. Endophytic fungi are fungal microbe which can produce secondary metabolites that associated with medical plants can be exploited for curing many diseases. This is the first study of endophytic fungi from P. retrofractum which can be an alternative source of natural product besides its host, P. retrofractum. Seven endophytic fungi were isolated from the fruits and leaves of P. Retrofractum and investigated for their antibacterial and antioxidant activities.Methods: All the isolated fungi were tested for their antibacterial activity using disc diffusion method with several series of concentrations and antioxidant capacity using the DPPH method.  Result: The highest activity both antibacterial and antioxidant was demonstrated by DPR-1 extract against Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. This extract contained alkaloids, steroids, and flavonoid compounds.Conclusion: This study reported that endophytic fungi from P. retrofractum indicate as a potential source of bioactive and chemically novel compounds.Keywords: Piper retrofractum, endophytic fungi, antibacterial activity, antioxidant activity

Abstract

The current study was designed to determine the antioxidant effects of sodium selenite and vitamin E against oxidative stress induced by lithium carbonate in physiological blood parameters and histological parameters include (liver and kidney) on the adult male rats. The study was conducted in the animal house of the Faculty of Science/University of Kufa on 30 animals of adult male rats aged 2.5-3 months and the weight of 200-250 gm. The adult male rats which were divided randomly into five groups each group contains six animals, the first group promised to negative control which were administrated normal saline only, the second group administrated lithium carbonate at dose 4 mg/kg of body weight per day and promised as positive control, the third group administrated lithium carbonate at dose 8 mg/kg of body weight per day  also promised as positive control, the fourth group administrated lithium carbonate at dose 4 mg/kg of body weight per day with the solution containing to sodium selenite at dose of 2.4 mg/ml and vitamin E at  dose of 60 mg/ml daily and  the fifth group administrated lithium carbonate at dose 8 mg/kg of body weight per day with the solution containing to sodium selenite at dose of 2.4 mg/ml and vitamin E at  dose of 60 mg/ml daily,  for a period of eight weeks. after eight weeks the rats were sacrificed for  taking blood samples and removing the liver, kidney.   After the end of experiment the results showed the presence of a significant decrease (p<0.05) in the red blood corpuscles counts, haemoglobin concentration and hematocrit while significant increase (p<0.05) in the white blood cells counts and  erythrocyte sedimentation rate in the animals treated with lithium carbonate compared to the control group for eight weeks While the results show (p<0.05) significant increase (p <0.05) in the red blood corpuscles counts, haemoglobin concentration, hematocrit, as well as a significant decrease (p<0.05) in the white blood cells rate and erythrocyte sedimentation rate in the animals treated with lithium carbonate with sodium selenite with vitamin E compared with the control group for eight weeks. The results indicated a significant increase (p<0.05) in the Aspartate aminotransferase, Alanine aminotransferase & Alkaline phosphatase in the animals treated with lithium carbonate only compared to the control group for eight weeks of administration at the same time occur a significant decrease (p <0.05) in the liver enzyme levels in the treated animals with lithium carbonate, sodium selenite and vitamin E for a period of eight weeks compared with control group. Finally, the results of histopathological changes showed sever degeneration, vascular congestion in the liver and noticed degenerative cells with haemorrhage in the kidney in the group of rats treated by lithium carbonate while appeared improvement in the liver, kidney in the groups’ administrated lithium carbonate with lithium carbonate with sodium selenite, vitamin E. The study conclude  sodium selenite and vitamin E have effective antioxidants against oxidative stress induced by oral administration of lithium carbonate led to improve the physiological parameters and histopathological changes compared with control group.Keywords: Oxidative stress, Sodium selenite, Vitamin E and lithium carbonate.

Abstract

Objective In the currentsearch , E.coli  isolated from UTIs in many Baghdad hospitals. The study concentrated on phylogenic groups and this was done based on triplex PCR method by primers besieged to three genetic markers, chuA, yjaA and TspE4.C2. Evaluate the relationship of phylogenic groups of E.coli isolates with the antibiotic-non sensitive patterns.Methodology Four hundredof E.coli bacteria inaccessible from urine samples from  five hospitals in Baghdad city includes : Ghazi AL-Hariri, Iben- Beledi , AL-Iskan , AL-Nooman and AL-Yarmoke hospitals. Phylogenetic categorization of E. coli isolates was completed by by means ofearlier reported triplex PCR-based on  phylotyping procedure using primers besieged at three markers, chuA, yjaAand TspE4.C2. Phylogenetic combination was done on the starting point of the existence or nonexistence of the3 DNA fragments as follows: chuA–, TspE4.C2–, group A; chuA–, yjaA–, TspE4.C2+, group B1; chuA+, yjaA+, group B2; chuA+, yjaA–, group D. Because two possible profiles can be obtained for the groups A, B2, and D. Fifteen antibiotics second-hand for all foremost groups and their individual generations were used in this paper adjacent to all bacterial isolates. Results The isolates ofE.colifrom UTI  were distributed within thephylogroups B2 (43%); phylogroups D (28.25%); phylogroups A (24%) and B1 (3.5%), so phylogenic group B1 was prevalent among  male patients of AL-Yermouk hospital ( 14%), followed AL-Iskan (3.75)% so, isolation rate of E.coli were higher among age (11-20 ) years (31.75 %), also(11%) were sensitivity to antibiotics, whilst (75.25%) were classified as extensive drug resistance pathogens, but  13.75% were multidrug resistance  and in Qarkh areas, the frequency of phylogeneticB2 was (59.88%), followed phylogenetic A and D were ( 68.75 and 48.78%) respectively as  compared to Rusafa areas were prevalence phylogenetic B2(40.12%),followedphylogenetic D and A were (51.22 and 31.25 %) , as well as most of these phylogenetic groups occurred more frequently in both groups B2 or D (43, 28.25) % respectively, also ( 2.75, 2.5 )% of phylogenic A were antibiotics sensitivity in both AL-Iskan hospital and Ghazi AL-Hariri hospital respectively whilst these phylogenic was multidrug resistance as percentage (9, 3.75) % respectively in both AL-Yermouk hospital and AL-Iskan hospital, Whilst in these hospital this phylogenic A was founded with extensive drug resistance (1, 0.75) % respectively, also most of phylogenetic group  B2 occurred more frequently in AL-Yermouk hospital, so the sensitivity; multidrug resistance and extensive drug resistance as (2.25, 15 and 3.5) % respectively, also all  phylogenetic groups E. coli isolates from UTI patients of five hospital weregrouped  in two or three major group as  A , B group contain major sub groups .RecommendationsThe study recommends additional studies of the correlation  between the Phylogenic group  with antibiotic-resistance pattern  for other bacterial  types  isolated from  UTIs or the same bacteria isolated from other types of infections. We suggest to applicate our study on bacteria Vibrio colerai  isolated from the infected patients stool who submitted to  the same hospitals  or in the other provinces of the country, because of our country suffering frome  epidemics infections  in the last two years. Keywords: Urinary tract infections, Enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus PCR (ERIC-PCR), E. coli, Antibiotic resistance, MDR.

Abstract

Background: Pentraxin (PTX s) is a classical mediator of inflammation and super family of a cut – phase proteins. Tumor necrosis factor-α, is one of the pro-inflammatory cytokines, released in various chronic inflammatory disease including periodontitis. Subjects and method: the study comprised 75 patients,50 with chronic periodontitis (CP) (25 smoker and 25 non smoker ) and  25 normal subjects, age ranged between (20-50 years old, This study carried out in periodontal department clinic/ collage of dentistry/ university of Babylon, Hilla city , Iraq, 5 ml of unstimulated  whole saliva was collected from all  subjects to measure Pentraxin-3(PTX-3) and tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α) by Enzyme-linked immunosorbent  assay technique (ELISA).Result: the result  show  there are non-significant differences in the levels of PTX-3 and TNF-α between the patients and controls and non significant between smoker and non smoker(p≤ 0.05) .In smoker patients there is a negative correlation between concentration PTX-3 and number of cigarette per years of  smoking. While there’s a positive correlation between level of TNF-α and and number of cigarette per years of smoking. Conclusion: Smoking in chronic periodontitis patients has no effects on levels of PTX-3 and TNF-α in saliva.Keywords: Chronic periodontitis, Smoking, Saliva, PTX-3, TNF-α.

Abstract

Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is a severe form of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and is linked to overweight, obesity and metabolic syndrome. The main role in treating NAFLD is attributed to leading a healthy lifestyle, keeping a healthy low-calorie diet and high physical activity. In dealing with issues of healthy diets of patients with NASH, mare’s milk can be considered a pathogenically based, highly effective and affordable natural therapeutic dietary agent. The value of the product is defined by its similarity to the chemical components of women’s breast milk. This article reports a case of a successful treatment of NASH with the help of monotherapy using sublimated mare’s milk within a relatively short period of time, devoid of laborious dieting, physical activity or any side effects.Keywords: Non-alcoholic fatty liver diseases, Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, Mare's milk, Sublimated mare's milk, Medical and dietary properties of mare's milk.

Abstract

The study aimed to knowing the contamination range in some cover Crispy Chicken samples imported for Iraq by evolution the microbial contamination and levels of some hormones , packaged food samples included 14 different types of crispy chicken are : C1 ,C2,C3,C4,C5,C6,C7,C8,C9,C10,C11,C12,C13,C14, The results shown for microbial assays of the sample C6 that contain 6.3 ×10 8 wt m /gm meat total number of aerobic bacteria by using BacTRAC 4300 Device , either sample C11 was a violation of health conditions with contained of Salmonella bacteria . According to the levels some hormone the result were shown that progesterone hormone have high level of sample C11 which was 15 ng /ml , so the testosterone hormone has been high in samples C1,C7,C8,C9 with rate ˃ 16, ˃ 16, 15.5 , ˃ 16 ng /ml Respectively . It was shown from the results that must all kinds of imported crispy chicken be subjected to constant detection of microbial contamination and hormones because have direct effect of maintaining on general health and customers health especially.Key words:  Crispy chicken, Microbial contamination, Hormones, Bactrac device.

Abstract

In the present study , coelomic fluid tested for antibacterial activates. four different concentration of coelomic fluid was used (100%,75%, 50%,25%)which was determine by  the agar well diffusion method and tested against five pathogenic bacteria isolates (E. coli , K. pnemoniae, Staph. eureus, Staph. epidermis, Ps. aeruginosa). coelomic fluid show highest inhibition zone aganist E.coli at concentration (100%,75%,50%) ,while staph eureus show highest inhibition at concentration (25%).Keywords: Coelomic fluid, Earthworm, Bacteria.

Abstract

Background: Liver toxicity often results from drug administration, such as antituberculosis. The prevalence of liver toxicity in tuberculosis patients remained high in the last decade. Liver toxicity induced by isoniazid (INH) and rifampicin (RIF) combination might have different features and mechanisms with liver toxicity induced by other substances or drugs (acetaminophen, carbontetrachloride, d-galactosamine, ethanol or dimethylnitrosamine). The goal of this study was to investigate the toxic dose and duration  of  administration of combined isoniazid and rifampicin that contributed to the hepatic injury in rats. Methods: A combination of INH-RIF contained 100 mg of INH and 100 mg of RIF.  The induction of INH-RIF was given for 28 consecutive days. Twenty rats were divided into five groups: control, group 1 (dose 50 mg), group 2 (dose 100 mg), group 3 (dose 200 mg), group 4 (dose 400 mg),and group 5 (dose 800 mg). At the end of induction, serum aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) were measured, and liver histopathology was evaluated. Data were analyzed with one-way Anova test.  Results: Serum AST and ALT levels were significantly higher in groups 1 and 2 compared to control (p<0.001). Post-hoc analysis revealed that 50 mg and 100 mg dose significantly increased the serum AST and ALT. Conclusion: There were significant differences in serum AST and ALT, as well as histopathological scores, among rats induced by INH and RIF combination.Keywords: Isoniazid; Rifampicin; Liver; Animal.

Abstract

Objective: Materials and Methods: A double-blind clinical trial has been performed on 50 candidates for elective laparoscopic colecystectomy undergoing general anesthesia in Educational Hospital of Imam Khomeiny uromieh, Iran. 25 randomly selected patients (the case group) were given 4 mg of oral Tizanidine 90 minutes before the induction of anesthesia whereas the remaining subjects (the control group) were given placebo. Bispectral index “BIS” level before induction and after Tizanid in premedication, Induction time(Time of bispectral index “BIS” to reach 60), Mean arterial pressure and heart rate before and after induction of anesthesia, and after intubation and 10 min after peritoneal gas insufflations and   in intraoperative period and after extubation, ,and the needed Propofol & Remifentanyl  dosage were measured and recorded. Data analysis was done with T-test and Chi-squared test, using SPSS software version 19.Results: BIS level before induction and after tizanidin premedication was 91.04±1.13 & 94.56±1.82 in control and case group respectively (p valu<0.01). Induction time was 56.9±5.35 and 80.2±2.9 seconds in control and case group respectively (p valu<0.009). Average propofol & remifentanyl needed dose for anesthesia maintenance in case group was 28.95% & 33.3% less than the needed amount in the control group respectively. There is no difference in mean arterial pressure and heart rate before and after induction of anesthesia between the two groups. Variations of mean arterial pressure and heart rate after intubation and 10 min after peritoneal gas insufflations and   in intraoperative period and after extubation, were less in Tizanidine group generally. Conclusions: Using oral Tizanidine as a premedication decreased BIS level & diminished induction time of anesthesia decreased required Propofol and remifentanyl & yielded stability in mean arterial pressure and heart rate during surgery. Considering its short duration of action, Tizanidine use as a premedication is recommended for sedation and stabilization of hemodynamic responses during the operations.Keywords: Tizanidine, Hemodynamic, Propofol, Remifentanyl, BIS,  Premedication.
